Sacrament of Baptism
Our Baptismal Ministry is pleased to help your family prepare for the special event of your child’s entrance into our faith community. Please contact the parish office at least two months prior to your preferred Baptism date to schedule a preparation class. We encourage attendance at this class well before the baby’s birth. The class is usually offered the last Monday evening of each month. Baptisms are scheduled on Sundays at 1:00 p.m.
Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday from 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. or by appointment.
Sacraments of Initiation Adults interested in receiving the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation) may call the Director of our RCIA program, Deacon Tim Leonard.
Sacrament of Marriage Please contact the parish office at least six months prior to your wedding to set a date and to begin your marriage preparation and required paper work.
Home or Hospital Visitation Anyone who cannot attend Mass because of age or illness, and would like to receive the Eucharist at home, should call the parish office to arrange a visit. Likewise, if you are being admitted to the hospital, and would like a visit, please call. Due to confidentiality reasons, hospitals no longer call the parish to inform us when parishioners are admitted.
You never really know someone until you know what they want, what they really care
about. Jesus wants us to know Him. And so He begins His first homily by telling us what He
cares about the most, by telling us exactly what He wants, exactly what He came to Earth to
give us: blessedness. He wants us to be blessed.
In the Bible, this word refers to something very specific: the kind of happiness that only God
can give, the kind He created us for, the kind we yearn for in the depths of our hearts and
that we can never seem to find. Jesus begins His first sermon, in the Gospel of Luke, telling us the path to this
kind of happiness. This is what he wants for us: happiness, a meaning, a fulfillment that goes deeper than the
superficial kind that comes with money or popularity. Jesus came to show us how to live like that.
That's what He wants. He wants us to flourish. How easily we forget about this! How easily we fall into the devil's
old trap of seeing our Christian life as a list of obligations, a hindrance to fun, and a limit on our freedom. But we
were made by God. And the manufacturer always knows what's best for the product. Everything Jesus teaches,
everything He asks of us, everything the Church teaches about how to live, what to do, what to avoid - these are
the manufacturer's instructions, meant for our benefit, for our blessedness. Jesus doesn't want us to waste our
lives; He wants us to live them to the full. Knowing what Jesus wants for us is a powerful motivation to live by His
standards, which is not always easy, as we all know. But it's not enough just to know what He wants for us. In
times of temptation, when everyone around us is giving in, we need more than just knowledge: we need
strength. The strength we need comes from the Eucharist. The Eucharist is Christ's heart, His strength. It is Christ
Himself, truly present under the sacramental sign of bread. When we receive Him in Holy Communion, His heart
nourishes our hearts; His pure, wise, loving desires flow into our selfish desires and purify them, so that we not
only know what He wants, but start wanting it too, more and more. When we receive Him in Holy Communion,
His strength becomes our vitamins; His strength gives us new
strength. When we can't receive Him in Holy Communion, we can still
receive this grace by visiting Him in the tabernacle. His strength
emanates from that little box like rays of radiation. His desires enter
into our desires and transform us. When we can't visit Him in the
tabernacle, we can unite ourselves to Him spiritually. At every
moment, somewhere in the world a priest is celebrating Mass.
Wherever we are, at home, at work, in the subway, on the basketball
court - whenever we need a dose of Christ's strength to live by His
standards, we can unite ourselves to that Mass and ask Him to come to
us in a spiritual communion. When we receive Him now, let's thank
Him for this great gift. And let's promise that we will make use of it this
week, so that He can make our lives truly blessed, as He wants.

Our prayers and sympathy to the families of
Harold Connor (father of Judy Green),
Thomas O’Neil (brother-in-law of Marty & Judy Green),
Marie Dorothy Johnson (mother of Pam Podstawa),
Ella Mae Baeten (mother of Dianne Glozier),
and the recently departed.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord.
We encourage you to call with the names of family members who are ill and you wish to have remembered in prayer. Your family member will be mentioned in the Petitions in the Sunday Liturgy for one week and then published in the weekly bulletin. In order to respect everyone’s privacy, these names must be given by a family member. After six weeks, unless other arrangements are made, the person’s name will be moved to our Prayer Line Ministry. Continuing prayer for those we love is very important for all involved: therefore, we ask that you call the parish office so that we may maintain a current and meaningful list.

Grace Filled Women
The next meeting of Grace Filled Women is on Saturday, February 23. The theme is “Lift Up Your Soles.” Our guest presenter is Ms. Elaine Long. She will take us through a Christian yoga session based on scripture (including meditation). Our morning will begin with a Communion Service in the church at 9:15am and our meeting will conclude at 11:00am.
Registration for this session is mandatory, as the number of participants is limited (presenter request). Deadline to register is Wednesday, February 20th. Register by contacting the parish office at 847-356-7915. At time of registration, indicate whether or not your participation will be floor or chair. If floor, bring own yoga mat or blanket. Wear comfortable clothes.
This should be a relaxing and inspiring experience. Hurry to register, spaces are filling up fast.
Are You Called to Minister to the Sick and Homebound?
By Deacon Jim Jesus calls us through the corporal works of mercy to visit the sick. Ministry of Care consists of visiting people in their homes and/or in area nursing homes, spending time with them to keep them connected to the parish, praying with them, reading the Word with them, and then most importantly, providing them with the opportunity to receive the Eucharist when they cannot gather with us on Sundays. Ministry to the sick, perhaps like no other in the parish, allows for the development of a one on one relationship, whether it is for a short time as someone recovers from a hospital stay or even through a long-term illness. Ministers of Care often say that they get so much more out of the ministry than they could ever give. As a Minister of Care you provide essential spiritual nourishment at a time when a person is most vulnerable - when they are sick. The training sessions are conducted over two days and cover the theology of ministry to the sick, communication skills, and practical training in visiting a sick person in a pastoral way. It is also necessary to become an Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Training for new Ministers of Care will take place March 2nd and 9th (both sessions are required) from 8:45am - 3:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle, 6401 Gages Lake Road in Gurnee. We are in need of ministers at this time, so I would be most willing to speak with anyone interested. Please call the parish office (847-356-7915) or email me at [email protected] if you are interested, and to register for the training. I also ask that you continue to pray for all of the sick and those who minister to them.

Mark Weiss, a parishioner of Prince of Peace, is scheduled to be ordained to the Order of Deacon on May 11, 2019 at Holy Name Cathedral by Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago. This is a public announcement of the upcoming ordination and fulfills the canonical requirement. Catholics are obliged to reveal any concerns, impediments or circumstances that could prevent Mark Weiss from receiving Sacred Orders and should contact the pastor or the Cardinal with such information as soon as possible if there is a serious question about the candidate’s suitability for ordained ministry.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul
In the Gospel today, Jesus gives us the blessings of serving the poor, hungry and weeping people, for you will then rejoice and leap for joy. But Jesus also teaches us the decisiveness of choice: blessing or woe. Choosing to help those who are suffering will fill your heart with the blessing of Jesus and indeed your reward will be great in heaven. Please consider donating your time, talent and/or treasure to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM
Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”
Direct debits can be processed either weekly or monthly dependent on your preference. Weekly debits are processed every Monday, and monthly debits are processed the first Monday of each month. Credit cards can be processed either on the 5th or 20th of the month. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.
I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

“Blessed are you when people hate you...exclude and insult you, and denounce your name… on account of the Son of Man.” (Luke 6:22)
All of us have been in situations when someone has made a negative comment or joke about God or our Catholic faith. How did you respond? Did you stay silent or pretend to go along with the crowd because you didn’t want to cause waves and then, later, you felt bad? Know that God is with you all the time, the Holy Spirit will put the right words in your mouth. Pray for the strength and courage to proclaim our faith to others, especially during uncomfortable situations.

Have You Considered Electronic Giving?
We offer Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on the opposite page or on our parish website. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It also continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town or on vacation.
There are cards available on the credenza in the gathering space each weekend that say, “I Support the Parish through Electronic Giving.” You can pick one up before Mass and place it in the collection basket instead of your envelope.
Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. Sharing Parish, St. Vincent de Paul and Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.
Pope Francis and Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia met in Havana, Cuba on Friday, February 12, 2016, and signed an
historic joint declaration. In that declaration they stated the following about the unborn: “We call on all to respect the inalienable right to life. Millions are denied the very right to be born into the world. The blood of the unborn cries out to God (cf. Gen 4:10). (n. 21)”
