The Spirit Makes us the Church
We are very proud of our parish here at Prince of Peace. I brag about it and about you all the time. For example, a while back when we celebrated the 60th anniversary of the school, and Cardinal Cupich came to our parish for Mass. I gave him a complete tour. He was impressed and asked how we are able to pay for it. I told him that really has not been a problem. The people have been extremely generous and they take ownership of their parish. Come November, I will brag to Matthew Kelly about Prince of Peace.
We are the Roman Catholic Church of Prince of Peace in Lake Villa. We are a part of Vicariate 1, Deanery A, of the Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The priests all share in the ministry of the Cardinal, Cardinal Blaise Cupich. Our Archdiocese includes Cook and Lake Counties. There are 2,179,000 Catholics with 316 parishes. Our Archdiocese is very active; we have 173 Elementary school, 32 Secondary school, 6 Catholic colleges and universities, 46 Catholic cemeteries, 17 Catholic Hospitals, and a very active Catholic Charities. Masses are celebrated in 54 languages. We have many differing ministries in this Archdiocese, yet we are all one in the Church. We are all united to Rome under the authority of the Holy Father, and under the universal laws of the Church. Yet, it is not the organization and the programs that make us the Catholic or universal Church. We are a Church due to the action of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit binds us into one people even if we are each very different. In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles the Spirit caused people to understand each other even though the people heard the apostles in different languages. Yes, there are organizational aspects and structures to the Church, be it parish, diocese, or the universal Church, but that which makes us Church is the very presence of the Holy Spirit in our midst, uniting us together as the Body to the Head, Jesus Christ. Today we celebrate the birthday of the Church. Pentecost is the birthday of the Church because it was on Pentecost Sunday that individuals received the Holy Spirit and became one in Jesus Christ. Pentecost is the empowering by the Master to complete his work, the salvation of that part of creation made in his own image. Jesus entrusted his work to his prized disciples. He gave them the divine guidance of the Third Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, and they allowed his Spirit to flow through them. And the Church was born. And the work of the master continues. We, here at Prince of Peace, in this Deanery, in this Vicariate, in this archdiocese, in this country, in this world have been empowered by our Master, Jesus Christ, with His Spirit the Holy Spirit. We are called to continue His work on earth. Whatever we do, we do it in the Spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. Pentecost is the celebration of the Spirit that gives life to our actions. It is the celebration of the birth of the Living Church. I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled week, and I pray for the day when we celebrate in person.

Fighting Domestic Violence During the Covid-19 Crisis
Experience and data teach us that financial crises, home confinement and prolonged stress exacerbate the frequency and intensity of domestic violence. It is no surprise that the Covid-19 pandemic has made life more dangerous for many already at risk in our country. The Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline reports that calls for help have increased 50% in March, from 60 to 90 a day. Some victims were about to leave their abuser, but now he is home all the time, and they have less opportunity to free themselves. Some are in counseling, and now in-person services are unavailable. Some abusers are more angry by loss of work or home quarantine and thus more threatening to their partners. If you know or suspect someone is a victim, please check on them! If they are in immediate need, help them call 911, the National DV Hotline: 800-799-7233, the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline: 877-863-6338, or another reputable DV resource to help them connect with support and services.

Eucharistic Adoration
For those who have been missing this time in prayer, we have created a virtual "hour" (45 minutes) of
adoration that includes Exposition and Benediction and about 30 minutes of silence in front of our
monstrance. Feel free to pause the video during the silent time to extend your prayer time.

Weekend Stewardship Collection For the weekend of May 23-24, 2020
Total Envelopes $ 3,570.00
Electronic Giving $ 6,869.50
TOTAL COLLECTION $10,439.50
“To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7)
To receive the gift of the Holy Spirit you must open your heart and invite Him in! Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your thoughts, words, and actions every day! Be grateful for all the gifts God has given you! Regardless of our individual circumstances, God has given all of us many blessings. What we do with those gifts is our gift back to God! By generously sharing everything we have and everything we are, we become more “God-centered” and less “self-centered” and our lives truly reflect God’s light, love and mercy.
How do I handle my Sunday Contributions during this Time …
For the past two months, since we have been unable to attend Mass, the Sunday contributions received have been significantly lower than what we normally experience. As our lives and finances are impacted during this time, please remember the church’s expenses continue. We are present to meet the needs of our parish community as we are able. There is a “Donate Now” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on next page or on our parish website. After signing up, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass. When we return to Mass, there are cards available on the credenza in the gathering space that say, “I Support the Parish through Electronic Giving.” The card can be placed it in the collection basket instead of your envelope. Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. Sharing Parish, St. Vincent de Paul & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish. If you prefer to write a check and use your envelopes, please mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!
See article below regarding how you can support our parish while we are unable to attend Mass. Thank you!

ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM
Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”
Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.
I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

A Prayer for Vocations:
Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women
who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under
the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that
they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our
Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and
choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
“Always be ready to give...a reason for your hope.” (1 Pt 3:15) And always be ready to speak of your love! Speaking kindly of one’s spouse strengthens the marriage bond. Look for opportunities to build each other up, both alone and in public.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or
advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!
Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
PPC Liaisons to each of our parish
commissions are listed on the previous page.
