The early childhood program at Prince of Peace is committed to the whole

child by providing learning activities that are developmentally appropriate in

a challenging, creative, Christian environment. Our program fosters each

child in the areas of social, emotional, academic and spiritual growth.

We believe a child’s play is their work and that they learn by doing. A

child’s discovery is concrete and is based on experiment and discovery with

hands-on materials. Our classrooms are set up with learning centers and

provide opportunities for the children to explore all areas of their

development. A child goes through a sequence of growth within which they

each have their own individual patterns of growth, personality, and learning

style. In our program each child is appreciated and accepted at his or her

own ability. The children are given opportunities to learn, grow, and

develop in a genuine, affectionate Christian environment.

We strive to provide a warm, nurturing, Christ-centered environment in

which a child’s faith is nurtured, self-concepts are enhanced, and inde-

pendence is encouraged. We desire that our children know the love God has

for them and learn to interact lovingly with each other. While Prince of

Peace teaches and lives the Christian faith, families of all faiths are wel-

come.

Mission Statement

Welcome to Prince of Peace Preschool

We are so excited you have decided to start this journey with us.

This year promises to be a year of partnership as we work together

to guide your children through their growth and development in

all areas of their lives. This book outlines the scope of the

curriculum and the sequence in which we will be taking your child

through it. It has been developed so that you may follow along as

the children are taken through each area of their development.

Our goal is to work together so that we can maximize your child’s

experiences connecting school with home through this process.

Children learn what is meaningful to them and understand and

remember new things that relate to the experiences and skills

they already have. In addition to the academic foundation they

will receive, they can also look forward to chapel with their 8th

grade buddies, cooking through the alphabet, family field trips,

the book mobile, and participating in the Kinder Music program.

Formal assessments are given to each child in October, January,

and in April. Individual lesson plans are written and followed for

each child through large and small groups as well as individual

instruction time.

4

4

Our goal at Prince of Peace Preschool is for each child

to be able to

Seek knowledge

Think critically and creatively

Approach challenges with previously learned

concepts and strategies

Meet and exceed grade level standards and

expectations

Engage in activities to grow their minds and bodies

Live a healthy lifestyle caring for mind and body

5

5

Children at this age learn so much through music and movement.

At Prince of Peace Preschool we use the Kindermusik program

which

Immerses the children in an atmosphere of playing, singing,

and dancing

Uses music as a means of learning by moving their bodies to

rhyme and time

Teaches them the names and functions of different

instruments and the sounds they make

Gives knowledge in musical notes and tones

Explores and experiences Cultural music

Introduces new songs monthly and children perform them at

various times of the year

Develop a lifelong love of music

Do you know you have an invisible bucket which is filled with all of

your good thoughts and feelings? This is a concept that is taught to

the children from preschool through 8th grade. There are three

important rules that are reinforced on a daily basis

Rule One:

Be KIND– If you have a full bucket and a happy life, the first rule is

the most important rule. Rule One is “Be a Bucket Filler.” They are

taught by saying or doing something caring or thoughtful, they are

adding good thoughts and feelings to someone else’s bucket. This

makes them a Bucket Filler and filling buckets feels good!

Rule 2:

Don’t Dip– Now that they understand what it means to be a Bucket

Filler, it is important to teach them what not to do! Every time they

say or do something mean, they are dipping in someone else’s bucket

and removing the good thoughts and feelings that are in the other per-

son’s bucket and that does not feel good! The truth is that we all dip

at one time or another and it is important that children understand that

and work at making it right.

Rule Three:

Use Your Lid -The children are taught that even if they are able to

practice rule one and two and do it well, there may be times that they

need to guard and protect the good thoughts and feelings inside their

own bucket but using their lid. Even if they learn to be the best

bucket filler and never dip, but if they don’t learn to use their lid, their

own bucket may become empty. Their lid controls how much is

taken out!

Our language program is based on the Zoo-phonics multisensory

language arts program which is a kinesthetic, multi-modal

approach to learning all aspects of language arts. The principle

of Zoo-phonics maximizes understanding, memory, utilization,

and transference to all areas of the reading, spelling, and writing

process in a playful and concrete manner. In addition to using the

Zoo Phonics program, we use Montessori materials to give the

children a hands-on experience as they master fundamental skills

needed for reading and writing.

Our purpose is to always maintain a Christian centered

environment where children:

Understand they are children of God and know Christ as their

Savior

Learn to love the Lord with their heart, soul, mind and

strength

Worship God as the Creator of all things

Learn what it means to pray in their daily lives

Learn Biblical truth, not cultural pressure

Show Christian values through their words and actions by

showing compassion for their peers, and those in need in our

community, country, and the world

Prince of Peace Preschool teaches Bible concepts in an age appro-

priate way through daily lessons which have been developed by

Disciple land. This is a comprehensive program that helps equip

children to reach their peak potential as Jesus’ disciples. They

will know who Jesus is and what he has done for them. Our goal

is that they will be able to display Christ-like character in every

area of their lives. We desire to partner with parents to build life-

long disciples who know God’s love.

While Prince of Peace teaches and lives the Christian faith, families

of all faiths are welcome.

We value a working relationship with parents and want them to be part of

their child’s preschool experience. We require each two parent family to

generate a total if 20 hours and each single parent family to generate a

total of 15 hours per school year. Together we will be building the foun-

dation of your child’s outside relationships and learning experiences and

it is important to us that we do it together. There are many ways to

accomplish these hours and opportunities would include:

Teacher Helper/Art Helper/Playground Supervisor

Take projects home to prepare for the children

Class parent (help with planning events for the children)

Fieldtrip driver/Chaperone

Lunch Time Helper

Purchase Script to support the school

Work Days/Facility Care

Attending Parenting Classes in Love and Logic

These are just some of the opportunities we offer to complete these hours

26

26

Prince of Peace Preschool offers a five-week parent

training program designed by the Love and Logic

Institute inc.

Would you like to feel more confident as a parent?

Would you like to feel more relaxed at the end of the

day?

Would you like to gain practical skills that you can

use immediately?

Have you asked yourself

“How can I stop my children from bickering and fight-

ing?”

“Is there a way to discipline my toddler in public with-

out creating a scene?”

“How do I get him to stop spitting his peas and whin-

ing at dinner”

Prince of Peace Parents receive 10 parent hours for

attending. Class dates and times will be announced

during the school year.
