DELIVERY OF NEW PORTABLE A note was sent home last Monday to the eldest in every family advising that the new portable we have been expecting is being delivered tomorrow (Friday) morning from 9:30am. We have been ad-vised today that the delivery is now taking place on Monday 12th February. Part of the delivery re-quirements is for the whole carpark area and driveway to be cleared to make room for the semi-trailers entering and backing out of the school grounds. The crane will be arriving at 7.30am-8am and the new portable, in sections on semi-trailers, will be arriving around 11am.

Parents will be unable to use the driveway and carpark off Liverpool Road on Monday 12th February. This includes the drop-off and pick-up zones. Please make alternative arrangements for this day. We apologise for this inconvenience.

GETTING TO KNOW YOU INTERVIEWS I urge parents to take up the opportunity to organise an interview with your child’s new teacher on Tuesday 20th Feb from 4:00 – 7:30pm & Wednesday 21st Feb from 4:00 to 6:00pm. A letter ex-plaining the online booking procedure will be distributed early next week. Interviews are for 10 minutes only and parents should take this opportunity to share information about their children with teachers. It is not an interview where teachers report on academic progress. Parents can arrange meetings with teachers at a mutually agreed time. ANNUAL PARENT PERMISSIONS NOTES The Basin Primary School offers a range of activities that require the written consent of parents and guardians. To save extensive paperwork several of these activities can be covered by gaining your written consent only once each year. Shortly your child will bring home the explanation of each activity and we encourage parents to return the signed annual permission page ASAP.

SCHOOL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS It is at this time of the year that we call for nominations of Parent Members on our School Coun-cil. School Council is the body that oversees the running of the school and parent members have an opportunity to look at how schools function from another perspective and as well as being involved in some aspects of school decision making.

Each year vacancies occur on School Council as parent and staff members complete their two-year term. There are 7 parent (5 x 2 year positions & 2 x one year positions) and two staff vacancies this year. Notice of Election Schedule is as follows: Monday 12th February Call for nominations (Forms can be obtained at the office) Monday 19th February Nominations close Wednesday 21st February Candidate List is announced Monday 26th February A ballot will be required if nominations exceed the number of vacancies Monday 5th March Close of Ballot Monday 19th March Next School Council Meeting Nomination forms are available from the office. The expectation is attendance at School Council meetings which are held on the third Monday of each month totalling a minimum of 8 meetings for the year, as well as becoming a member of Council Sub committees which include Finance, Education, Buildings & Grounds, Publicity and Parent & Friends Association. ASSEMBLY CHANGE / STUDENT AWARDS Due to the building works and the number of students, we will be alternating assemblies according to age groups. This week the assembly will be held for Grades P-2 and next week, Grades 3-6. Each Friday at assembly awards are presented to students. This list of these names will appear in the newsletter distributed on Thursdays. This enables those parents who wish to attend a little advance notice. As mentioned in a note that went home, for this week only, the P-2 assembly will be held on Thursday morning due to the delivery of a relocatable classroom on Friday. STUDENTS, PARENTS & STAFF PERSONAL PROPERTY The Department of Education (DET) does not provide personal accident insurance for students. Par-ents are generally responsible for paying the cost of medical treatment for injured students, includ-ing any transport costs i.e. Ambulance. The Department of Education advises that reasonable low cost accident insurance policies are available from the commercial insurance sector. For those par-ents who seek personal cover visit EBM Insurance Brokers website www.studentcover.com.au. Simi-larly, DET which includes the school does not offer replacement of personal items which are brought to school and are lost, broken or stolen. Sentimental or expensive belongings and toys are normally best left at home. This includes electronic games, mobile phones and tablets, sports equipment and even rare footy cards.

We’ve recently had some hot and humid days along with some cooler days bringing much wanted relief. Living in Melbourne we know the weather can change, even on the same day! One thing that does not change much this time of the year, even when the weather changes, is our UV rating. Did you know that Melbourne’s average UV rating in January is 10? The SUNSMART pro-gram recommends you protect yourself if the UV rating is 3 or above. As a registered SUNSMART school we have measures in place for outdoor play, particularly for the high UV months of September-April ie wearing hats, sun-shades over play equipment, sunscreen available in each classroom. Parents, please make sure your children bring a hat to school to wear outside. Students that don’t have a hat are re-quired to play under allocated shady areas during play times.
