ASCAAAll Saints’ College Alumini Association (ASCAA) fosters andmaintains a network among old students of the college andworks for the betterment of the Alma Mater. The ASCAA offersfinancial help to needy students and helps in up-grading thefacilities of the campus.

The PTA actively participates in all the activitiesof the college. The contribution from PTA to thestudent community is commendable. Thisacademic year the PTA has given financialassistance to Department of Mathematics forconducting intercollegiate quiz competition.Financial support was given to the Physicaleducation department for the installation of ahand ball goal post. PTA also sponsored twostudents to participate in All India Inter-University Soft Ball Tournament which was heldin Patiala. The PTA has played their roleeffectively for the smooth running of the collegeand strongly supported in all areas of activities.PTA honored the rank holders by presentingthem cash awards. Cash awards were also givento students who secured highest marks in finalyear examinations and students who excelledin sports. Necessary financial assistance wasgiven to the students who participated inUniversity Youth Festival. The association alsofelicitated the retiring teachers and office staff,by presenting them gifts.

The Department of English organized alecture series “The World at yourDoorstep” for its students. The aim of thelecture series was to bring renownedscholars, writers and activists to the collegeso as to provide them with internationalexposure and to generate interest in theworld around them. The first among thistook place on January 10, 2018 with thefamous scholar Dr. Michael Norman Smithaddressing the students on Oscar Wilde.

The second lecture was by the famousUkranian writer, Mr. Andrei Kurkov. Hespoke to the students on creativity and theneed for a sense of history that ultimatelyinforms all writing. His discussions on theerstwhile Soviet Union generated intensepolitical debates on the meaning ofdemocracy and freedom of speech.

The final lecture in the series was by thecelebrated activist and writer, MonicahWanjiru, who discussed the concepts ofFeminism and the regressive practices thatreflect the social mindset.

The series helped the students understandthe ways in which they themselves relateto the world outside and led to a betterrealization of the transnational networks ofgender, culture and political economy.

The students of the departmentvolunteered at the MathrubhumiInternational Festival of Letters held from2 to 4 February, 2018. They were awardedcertificates of appreciation.

The Women Study Cell members hold a meeting every Wednesday at 1 pm. The members whoare selected would present their papers on various issues concerning woman, relating to theevents happening around us today.The International Women’s Day was celebrated like a festival in our campus.Along with the KIMS hospital, The Women Study Cell conducted competitions on the topic“Women and Kidney”. Poster Making, Cartoons, and Caption making were some of thecompetitions which were held.

A programmme to commemorate International Women’s Day and World Kidney Day was jointly organizedby the Human Rights Forum & Women’s Studies Cell in association with KIMS Hospital & CLUB FM. On 8th

March, 2018, Dr. Praveen Muraleedharan, Nephrologist, Dr Prameela Joji, Paediatrician, Dr Satheesh ,Nephrologist etc, were present. Dr Parvathy Menon gave a message on the occasion.

KURUVI NATURE CLUB (Department of Zoology)Teacher in Charge: Ms. DIVYA GRACE DILIP

40 students registered for the Kuruvi Nature Club for the academic year 2017-2018. The activitiesundertaken were as follows:- Bird watching within the college premises and preparation of a Bird Register- Cleaning of two selected tanks and growing guppy fishes- Spread awareness among students about the alternatives for plastics, especially plastic ball point

pens.During the Wildlife Week Celebrations organized by the Department of Museums and Zoos in October2018, our students participated in essay writing, quiz and painting competitions.The students attended a one day seminar on 14-2-2018 at the Priyadarshini Planetorium on thetopic, ‘Evolution’.The Nature Club notice board is updated with fun and amazing facts on a weekly basis.The preparation of a Manuscript Magazine and compilation of facts collected about the endangeredbirds in India is in progress and will be completed by June 2018.

All Saints College is a regular women study centre for IGNOU. In this academic year we have registeredstudents for MEG (English), MEC (Economics), MAH (History), Mom, MSW, MAWGS, Bcom, and BSW.Admissions for the courses of this academic year includes two batches, one belong to July Admission andother belong to January admission. Altogether presently we have more than 150 students. We alreadysubmitted a request for the activation of a certificateprogram in Disaster Management. An orientationwas given for the first year students about thedetails of the IGNOU course like syllabus, feestructure and other benefits. IGNOU officials tookinitiative for the orientation programme. Aninduction program was organized for the newlyjoined students of July session. IGNOU RegionalDirector Dr. B Sukumar addressed the students andreplied to the queries posed by students. IGNOUofficials visited the college to verify the newenrollments. Dr Veena Suresh Babu, Co-ordinatorattended a Coordinator’s Meeting held on 24thNovember 2017 and Training Programme for Part-Time Staff of LSCs held on 1st February 2018 atIGNOU regional centre, Trivandrum . Mrs. Umadeviwas appointed as part-time assistant of the IGNOUstudy centre of our institution.

The college Football team became the winnerof Kerala university Intercollegiate Footballtournament at TKM Engineering College,Kollam. Six students from our college wereselected for the university team.

The college team participated in the collegegames conducted by Kerala Sports Council,Govt. of Kerala at Kozhikkod during 1-3 March2018 and secured the fourth position.

The college Rugby team secured first prize inthe Inter-Collegiate Rugby Championship heldat university stadium on 15th to 16th March2018. Five students were selected for theKerala University team.

Our Cricket team secured third in theIntercollegiate Cricket Championship held atLNCPE Kariavattom on 19th-20th March 2018.

The Arts Club is at the forefront of cultural activities in the college and this year too saw it putting up agreat performance. The Union and arts club then set about organizing the fresher’s day competitions andMs. Punya Santosh of DC I Chemistry was adjudged the Best Fresher. The arts club held a number ofcompetitions and also facilitated the conduct of many programmes in the college like the Vanitha CoverGirl contest. Apart from KRIYA- the cultural week competitions, the arts club also had the Film Festival andthe Onam celebrations that were elaborate fun filled affairs.

The Bhoomitra Sena Club (BMC) is a Project of the Department of Environment and Climate Change (DoECC),Government of Kerala. Under this project, clubs are constituted and allotted to schools and colleges foraddressing Environmental Issues by changing the attitudes of the society and to encourage and promoteEnvironment and Climate Change related activities in the Kerala. The project envisages exploiting manpoweravailable with students. The club functioning in the college conducts several activities to fulfill the aboverequirement. The Faculty-in-charge and two club members participated in the one day seminar for the observance ofthe World Wetland Day – 2018organized by the Department ofEnvironment and Climate Change(DoECC) on 2nd February, 2018 at VJTHall, Palayam.

The BMC observed the Word WetlandDay – 2018 in the college by organizinga poster designing competition andposter exhibition on the theme of theyear to give the students an insight forthe need of sustainable maintenance ofurban wetlands. Certificates and cashprizes were distributed to the winners.

The club organized a Regional Seminar on the 23rd of March 2018 as part of the World Water Day –2018 observance. An intercollegiate poster designing competition was conducted as part of this andcertificates and cash prizes were distributed.

Under collaboration with the Kerala StateBiodiversity Board, a Biodiversity Club is functioningin the college, the main objective of which is to carryout programmes for conservation of localbiodiversity in accordance with the Sate BiodiversityActs. The prestigious ‘Santhisthal’ project is alsoundertaken in the Campus with a total of 1 acre ofland brought under the project, which in due courseof time is to be turned into a biodiversity rich thickforest area without human hindrance.

Plantation activities and maintenance of the plantedtrees are carried out routinely by the Club membersthroughout the year.

Dr. Smitha Asok V as Co-ordinator of the BiodiversityClub, organized an International Special Lecture on‘Theoretical and Practical Introduction to SARRemote Sensing as a Tool for BiodiversityConservation’ by Dr. Vishnu Nandan, Post DoctoralResearcher at the Cryosphere Climate ResearchGroup, University of Calgary, Canada, on 18thDecember, 2017, in the College.
