Principal’s Message First, let me thank the parents/guardians on the list below. Throughout the year they have volunteered, served on committees, or booster organizations, or drove students to events, or served in many different other ways. And I’m sure there are other parents whose names we missed- thank you as well. Without engaged parents participating and volunteering, the programs at a school would suffer. As well, research shows the following about parent/guardian involvement in their student’s education:• Children with engaged parents/guardians are more likely to:

○ Earn higher grades or test scores ○ Graduate from high school and attend post-secondary education

○ Develop self-confidence and motivation in the classroom ○ Have better social skills and classroom behavior

• They are also less likely to: ○ Have low self-esteem ○ Need redirection in the classroom ○ Develop behavioral issues

Again, thank you parents/guardians for your involvement!

4 Beyer Pride

Science Bowl: Beyer had 2 teams competing in this year’s Regional Science Bowl competition. There were 24 total teams representing 16 high schools from as far north as Lodi (Tokay) and as far south as Fresno (Clovis). The first part of the competition is 5 rounds in the morning. Beyer Red went undefeated (won 5 of 5) and Beyer White won 3 of 5. The 2 teams that Beyer White lost to in the morning were the 2nd & 3rd place winners, so they faced some tough competition. Beyer Red went on to the afternoon double elimination rounds as one of the top 8 teams. They were eliminated after 3 nail-biting rounds and secured a 4th place finish. Tokay and Clovis teams won top 3 spots with Clovis being the top contender and winning an all-expenses paid trip to the National competition in Washington D.C. in April. Beyer Red: Avilene Cannizzaro, Jack Litke, John Nunnally and Daniel Vermeulen. Briteil Danipour was unable to participate as she had a college interview. Beyer White: Annika Denyer, Ben Ficktenkort, Danielle Haubrich, Adrian Rivera, Tyler Utz. The science and math knowledge/skills possessed by these students and their ability to perform under time pressure are very impressive. Their success at this highly competitive event validates Beyer’s commitment to excellence in our math and science programs! 5Career Center Updates An Application Workshop was held in the Career Center on March 19th. Students were invited to learn more about the proper way to fill out job applications and scholarship applications. MJC also had a representative from the Career Services Center, explaining their services and ways to improve student’s opportunities in both college and future careers. 25 students attended the event and had pizza. Work Permits Information & Summer Employment: All minors under age 18 (unless a high school graduate or equivalent), including minors employed by parents must have a work permit. During summer months, applications are available at the District’s School-to-Career Office. Please call 209-492-5128, if you need a summer permit. The office locations will be moving soon to Locust Ave. All Work Permits expire five (5) days after school starts and must be re-issued at the start of each school year or at the time the student obtains a new job. Work Permits are required all year, not just when school is in session. It serves as an age certificate and states the maximum hours a minor may work based on their age (Ed. C. 49160). See Mrs. White in the Career Center for more information. 2019-2020 Career Fair Beyer will be hosting a College & Career Fair on October 30th 2019. Please contact Mrs. White in the Career Center if your business would be interested in participating in the Career Fair. Email: [email protected]
