PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Hello parents and supporters.
We are so blessed to have the
local and school community
come together to support YKCS
in our 20th Annual Auction. Just
over $ 20,000.00 was raised and
this is a testament to God’s
faithfulness. Thank you to the
many volunteers who made this
possible. While many
contributed I’d like to
acknowledge Katherine Fuller,
Michelle Binner, Alison Peyton,
Amanda Nitz and Melissa Braun
for all their work. We are
fortunate to have a community
that supports independent
education. Provincially
speaking, we are still under
attack and I recommend you
stay updated with news from
“Informed Albertans” and
“Parents for Choice in
Education”. They are two great
groups that are fighting our
battles for us and need our
support.

Please take the time to read the
following handout with this
newsletter to stay updated on
the current activities that your
tax dollars go to support.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS
We are currently looking for people who are willing to sub. Please contact Melissa Braun at the office if you are interested. Thanks.
SCHOOL PRAYER
Please keep the school in your
prayers and consider joining us
for prayer on Tuesday, May 23rd
at 6:30 p.m.
Thanks to everyone that came out and supported the school at our 20th Annual Auction! We had a great turn-out and lots of great items! The auction brought in just over $20,000 this year! So thank you to everyone that donated items, money, time, and came out and bought stuff! We had some great volunteers and are thankful for all the time and hard work that they gave. We are in desperate need of more volunteers next year and we will be sitting down and making some changes on paper for the next auction. Stay tuned for a follow-up letter on what to expect for next year!
FOOD BANK DRIVE
The Food Bank has moved their annual Food Drive to May. If you are able, please come out and help YKCS canvas the Glenwood area on Wednesday, May 17th, from 6-8 p.m.
FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE
Katherine Fuller is now the head of the fundraising committee. Please contact her with questions and to volunteer at 780-728-8963.
The total raised through the Gift Card orders so far this school year is $1134.33. The next orders will be placed on Thursday, May 18th and Thursday, June 1st. Extra Independent and Sobeys gift cards are available for purchase at the office during office hours.
Our Growing Smiles fundraiser brought in $390.07! Thanks to everyone that purchased some of the beautiful flowers and plants.
The Spring issue of Books 4 Eternity is attached. Please return forms to school by June 2nd.
STUDENT COUNCIL
The next Spirit Day is on May 26th, with a beach/summer theme. So come dressed with some shades, a sombrero, some flippers, or even with a life jacket! For this month's fundraiser, we are having a contest between Mr. Lin and Mr. Claassen. Students will vote by placing money in each jar (labeled Mr. Lin or Mr. Claassen) to see which teacher will get soaked at the end of the month!
Additionally, if you want a chance to soak these helpless teachers, be sure to purchase a ticket during snack shop! All donations will head towards our sponsored child in India. Please leave all donations in the office. Snack shop will continue to be opened all day of the week.
AWARDS NIGHT/FINALE
On June 27th we are having our
Awards Night. We will combine our
September Awards Night with some
music from the K-5 classes and YKCS
ensemble. It is a night to honor the
students for their hard work and
achievements over the last
academic year. We will start at 7:00
p.m.; refreshments will follow and
we hope to see you there!
BADMINTON
Thank you to Margaret Goodey
who coached the team to victory
this year and brought home a
bronze and two gold medals from
our area finals. Great job, team!
Please be in prayer for Lynden
Fousert who sustained an injury
and could not make the
tournament. We appreciate his
hard work this season.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Thank you to the Grade 9 – 12
parents who made it out to
parent-teacher interviews on
April 26th and 27th!
GRADES 7-12 TRACK MEET
The 7-12 students are heading down to Red Deer for our annual KCES track meet on May 15th.
ELEMENTARY TRACK AND FIELD EVENT
The Elementary Track Meet is scheduled for Thursday, June 8th
from 1:00-2:30 p.m. We are looking for volunteers to help in a variety of ways. Please contact Miss Hufnagel if you are able to help.
K, 2, 4 MOVE UP DAY
Transitions are important, and teachers have seen that some transitions are bigger than others for students. As we begin wrapping up this school year, we begin looking ahead to next year. Wednesday, May 31st, the Kindergarten class will join Grade 1 for the day. The Grade 2 class will join Grade 3 for the day, and the Grade 4 class will join Grade 5 for the day. Students generally really look forward to this day, even if they’re a bit nervous
RE-REGISTRATION
The re-registration packages were sent home last month. Please return them ASAP so that we can accurately plan for next year’s budget. A big thank you to those who have already returned them!
FRENCH EVENING
The Grade 1-6 French students,
along with Madame Worthing
and Madame Hufnagel would
like to invite you out to an
evening of music, dance and
drama on Friday, June 9th.
Further information went home
with the elementary French
students at the end of April.
Please speak to Miss Hufnagel if
you have not seen the letter.
GUATEMALA MISSIONS
Thank you for those who have supported the missions team so far. Again, the team consists of Ayva Kauffman, Michael Golding, Justin
Beckmann, Markus Kuzmic, Ben Ferguson, Christina Erkamp, Sarah Erkamp, Mr. Erkamp, and Mr. Tse. The missions trip will be for 10 days from June 30th till July 10th. The team will be doing a variety of activities such as helping out with VBS, home visits, hospital visits, construction and so on.
If you would like to help out, you can support us financially or through donations. We are looking currently looking for craft supplies. All donations can be dropped off at the front office. We currently have enough stuffed animals and layettes/baby clothes for the trip! Our carwash fundraiser at the auction brought in $390 and the bake sale brought in $674. Our team needs just under $100 to reach our fundraising goal! Thank you for your support!
