BLEACHER BUCKS
BLEACHER BUCKS IS A FUNDRAISER dedicated to purchasing new bleachers for Robinson Middle School gymnasi-
um/FEMA shelter. You may donate any dollar amount; no contribution is too small. Our goal is to raise $25,000 in
order to have bleachers in the new space.
As Robinson Middle School continues to develop its athletic environment, the bleachers play a key role in providing
needed seating for games, activities and assemblies. This aids in the future success of our school. The fundraiser is a
collaboration of community citizens and Robinson Middle School. All funds will be raised through donations and
grants.
There are several naming opportunities by donating $100 or more. Bleacher Bucks “naming opportunities” can be in a
family or corporation name or can be in memory or honor of someone.
In order to have your name become a permanent part of Robinson Middle School, please fill out the following and
return to Robinson Middle School Foundation, 328 N. Oliver, Wichita KS 67208. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organ-
ization and all gifts are tax deductible. You can also donate with a credit card by calling the school office at 316-973-

in fourth place overall, and will be advancing to the state Science Olympiad at WSU on April 1st.
Our Robinson Ram team competed in the Kansas State Science Olympiad last Saturday at WSU. Event medals were awarded to Robinson team members in ten of the twenty three events. Medal winners include: gold medals to Alex Mandanis and Aditya Joshi in the disease detectives event; gold medals to Molly Ha and Aditya Aurora in the dynamic planet event; gold medals to Elise James, Alex Diaz, and Kristina Lincoln in the experimental design event; silver medals to Kristina Lincoln and Elise James in the food science even; silver medals to Vivian Lu and Aimee Sinsel in the invasive species event; silver medals to Alex Griffith and Michael Einwich in the meteorology event; silver medals to Aditya Joshi and Alex Mandanis in the microbe mission event; silver medals to Alex Mandanis and Aditya Joshi in the wind power event; bronze medals to Aryan Waghmode and Aditya Aurora in the anatomy and physiology event; and bronze medals to Chi Vu and Vivian Lu in the write it do it technical writing event. The team finished second place overall, only seven points behind the first place team, thirty points ahead of third place. The team members put in an enormous amount of time preparing for their events, and it resulted in them repre-senting Robinson outstandingly.

From our community police officer: Parents and visitors, My name is Officer A.J. Villegas (Officer A.J. to the kids). I am the beat coordinator for 38 beat. Robinson Middle School falls with-in this beat and I wanted to speak to you about incidents occur-ring after school. Recently, we have received complaints from concerned citizens about students’ activities as they walk home from school.
Some complaints come from the intersection of Central and Oliver. Citizens have reported students ignoring the crossing signals and walking into crossing traffic. Since the middle of August, the Wichita Police Department has made 65 reports of motor vehicle collisions with pedestrians. This threat is very real and it is important the children walk with attention to traffic and crossing signals. I have addressed another issue with students meeting at the duplexes south of Adam’s Ele-mentary. At times, there have been fights at this location. There are signs posted prohibiting loitering on this property per the request of the owner. Please advise the students to wait elsewhere. Bishop Gilkey with St Mark has allowed parents to use the large parking lot west of Adams. The students may wait there, near the sidewalk, for their siblings. Thank you for your attention to these issues. I hope that by following your parental instruc-tion, the students can all finish the year safely. Officer A.J. Villegas #2311 Community Policing Unit-38 Beat Wichita Police Department Patrol East [email protected]

The Mathcounts team (Vivian Lu, Alex Mandanis, Mehala Muthukumar, and Aryan Waghmode) participated in state this past weekend. Vivian placed tenth in the individual competition. Vivian is the first student from Robinson to place in the individual competition at state. Congratulations to Vivian!
Band News 6th GRADE The Beginning Band students have nearly completed a year of instruction and have made incredible progress! Now would be a good time to start shopping for an instrument for next year (students who are currently renting a school flute, clarinet, trumpet or trombone.) The music stores in town may have “nearly new” instruments to sell this time of year. Beat the “back to school” rush! Information has been sent home with your students regarding shopping for an instrument. You can always contact one of the band directors if you have additional questions. Our next concert is Wednesday, May 10, in the NEW Robinson Auditorium. I think you will be surprised how far the beginning band has come this year! 7th GRADE The 7th grade band students are working on music for the spring con-cert which is Wednesday, May 10, in our New Robinson Auditorium! It would be a good idea to check and make sure concert black clothes still fit! (Black pants/skirt, black shirt/blouse, black socks and black shoes.) Check with your reed players (clarinet, saxophones) to see that they have 3 playable reeds in their case. Brass players should have valve/slide oil. If your student has an instrument at home and one at school, they need valve oil for the school instrument as well. 8th GRADE Middle School Band Festival is right around the corner – April 19. The band will be performing at Northeast Magnet High School, time to be announced later, and, of course, parents are always welcome to come hear our performance if you can get away during the day. All students will need to wear their concert black for this performance (black pants/skirt, black shirt/blouse, black socks, black shoes.)You might want to check now to make sure those clothes still fit! There will be a pre-festival concert on Tuesday, April 11, in the Robinson Auditorium. The trip to the Festival of Music at Worlds of Fun is April 22. An itinerary will be sent home later this month. Final concert is Wednesday, May 10 in the New Robinson Auditorium!

Sizzlin’ Sixlets Wilson 6th Grade Science You can contact me @ [email protected] We finished the Physics Unit on Newton’s Laws. The focus changes to Earth Systems: The Water Cycle and Weather. We will use meteorological maps to see how weather occurs. We will move into Astronomy for the end of the year. Jennifer Schreiber, from the Pathways Life Skills Training program, continues to be here once a week promoting healthy alternatives to risky behavior. The school year has moved into the 4th Quarter. Students need to finish strong, to show they are academically and behaviorally ready for 7th Grade next year. 6th Grade Math News Sixth grade math students have wrapped up their geometry unit and are beginning a 6-week study of ratios and rates. This unit will explore the concepts of equivalent ratios, unit rates and percents. All students have received a workbook for this unit and should bring it to class every day. Students will continue to have homework assigned every Monday through Thursday and should spend between 15 and 30 minutes each evening completing problems and reviewing notes. In Math Enrichment, students will complete projects that build on and apply their understanding of ratios. In addi-tion, we will spend time during the next month reviewing sixth grade skills in preparation for the state assessments in April.
For history… Students next travel learning adventure is…all about ancient GREECE. We will look at the rich culture and geography of this place. Also, kids will examine Greek mythology, philosophy, and architecture. Hopefully, students will make connections between the beliefs, ideas, and the government to that of our modern world and understand that the U.S. has borrowed many aspects from ancient Greece. Make sure your child is writing in their agenda every day, doing the homework, and studying for upcoming test in all classes. Lastly, please take about 5 minutes a day to talk about current events with your child.
For Language Arts Students have started the perfect unit for their fourth quarter: Responsibility! This unit challenges students to think about responsibility in personal relationships as well as within the context of community. Students will trace and evaluate arguments and specific claims in a text, distinguishing claims that are supported by reasons and evidence from claims that are not. They will also be dipping their toes into some poetry, both reading and writing! We’ve also been working on various grammar, writing, and reading skills that will better prepare them for their up-coming assessments on April 6th or 7th. As always, be on the lookout for reading logs. Students should be reading 20 minutes a night and having an adult sign their log each time. Let’s end the year on a strong note!

In March, the foundation provided funds for 40 When I Was a Slave student books. These books provide 34 testimonials from former slaves collected by the Works Progress Administration during the 1930’s. Eighth grade classes will be provided these books to read and use as sources for research. Five of the books will be located in the Robinson Library.
