Our Grade 6 children have been wearing their new T-shirts this week and looking very cool. We are very proud of Jasmine Woodford, Ruby Jackson and Gemma Mathieson who did very well to get as far as they did! The City Camp is coming up fast now and it’s looking like a cracker of a week in Melbourne! I’m really looking forward to spending some time with our senior students and watching them discover the city and explore some of the very rich learning it has to offer. Parents of students attending the camp will need to make their payments by the end of next week, unless they are in touch with Miss Pat to organise a payment plan. This term is a long and very busy one with all sorts of special events towards Christmas. There will be a week of swimming training for all students at the end of term and a combined college pool party to look forward to. Parent volunteers for assisting with the swimming would be warmly welcomed. There will be campus break-ups and campus concerts and all our Grade 6 students will be celebrated on Graduation Night. Violet Town campus will be visited by the TV show Backroads in early November, which will be an exciting opportunity to show off our school. This has been quite an eventful week at Peranbin, so it feels to me as though we are much deeper into the term! The “new” staff at Baddaginnie have made an excellent start and both Ms. Weeks and Miss Hand have been enthusiastically welcomed by the children of the senior class.

Our Grade 6 children have been wearing their new T-shirts this week and looking very cool.

Three children represented the college at Epping on Thursday in the Divisional Inter-School Athletics competition.

FROM BADDAGINNIE SWANPOOL Campus Meeting: Baddaginnie Campus meeting to be held on Monday 23rd October from 3:30-4:30pm with Charmayne, Dianne and Kate. Please come along to have your say in decision making at Baddaginnie Campus. If you cannot join us, please send along any ideas beforehand. Scooter Club: After consultation with students we are reviewing Scooter Club at our campus. Next week we will have Scooter Club on Tuesday and have developed a clear plan as what Scooter Club is about and the requirements of people who join. Watch this space for more details. Health reminders: As a Sun Smart school our policy requires students to be wearing a broad brimmed hat when outdoors for the remainder of the school year. If you need a new hat, please ask for a uniform order. Spare hats are only available for lesson times so kids without a hat will remain in shaded areas during recess and lunch. Sweets at school: Please support our healthy eating approach by keeping sweets and lollies at home as a treat. An extra hit of sweet treats in the form of fruit is always a great option and with the warmer weather berries, grapes and watermelon are appearing in the shops.

Thank you to parents who helped keep an eye on Baddaginnie Campus over the holidays. The gardens and grounds are looking lovely thanks to Marian Rankin who has been working on the garden and Ben Seers who maintains the lawns. Also thanks to Don Woodford who has fixed the sports shed door, this has made a huge difference to the security of our sports equipment.

Next fortnight when we are back in Baddaginnie we will have a working bee in the vegetable garden on Friday afternoon to continue the good work that has happened there last term. Any parents are welcome. There will be a reminder in next week’s newsletter.

Ms. Fitz’s Welcome back to school in Term 4 and welcome to Ms. Hand, and Ms. Weeks in the Senior Grade who have replaced Mr. Clelland. We have had a busy week with “Walk to School Week”- and have managed to have four walks around the township of Baddaginnie. On Thursday Hannah and Jen, Health Promotion Project officers from Benalla Rural City Council, came to the campus to further encourage this theme by having some games and outdoor activities with the children.

Weekly spelling homework has begun so look out for Look Say Cover Write of spelling words to help your child have success in their spelling. Please continue to read as frequently as possible this term with your child to help support their reading acquisition as we advance towards the end of your child’s year.

In Maths this week the focus has been on counting.

Miss. Hand and Ms. Weeks Room A great start to Term 4 with everyone showing great effort and enthusiasm to maximise our learning through behaviour, attitude and organisation. With discussions around how to make our learning

space work well for us all, we discussed some table set ups and after voting, a set of rows were created. We are looking to review how this set up works for us using a PMI – identifying the positive, minus and improvements that can be made to the arrangement. We are looking to do this every week or two to identify what is best for us as a team. We have also focused on procedural texts in Literacy and skip counting patterns in Maths. Next week we will resume formal spelling groups and a Big Write.

NEWS FROM STRATHBOGIE

Thank you so much to Jarrod Garden for putting in our new oven. We are very excited to begin using it next week for Kitchen Garden. We would like to organise a campus meeting for the next few weeks- please email Eron with your preferred times.

Miss. Hanby’s Room This week the students have been getting back into the swing of things with a great positive attitude. We have begun looking at Procedural Texts and the correct structure. Some of the students have been working on a funny procedure of "How to Turn Your Teacher into a Toad" after reading the story, 'The Frog King' earlier in the week. Other students have been writing procedures on how to do things they know really well. In Maths we have been looking at counting skills and have discovered some interesting facts along the way. Did you know that it would take 100 years to count up to 1 billion by ones?! That is with counting all through the night as well! Ms. Chapman and Mrs. Week's Room This week we have been learning to use counting patterns. We have been practising our counting patterns both 'on sequence' and 'off sequence' starting at various numbers determined by drawing numbers from a deck of cards. We have been working through set counting pattern challenges to become 'fluent' and checking off our learning when we are successful.

As Ms. Chapman was only with our grade this week for Monday we are keeping our news and our first Podcast for the term until next week. We hope you have a great weekend.

Mrs. B’s and Miss. Hand’s Room Welcome back to Term 4. With 11 weeks we expect things to move very fast and this week has certainly proven true to this. We caught up on holiday adventures by writing our recounts in a postcard format and then began to delve into procedural texts. These tell us how to do things and include recipes and instructions. We started off with making a procedural text together on how to make a card. It only had three steps but they were good ones. In Maths we have worked on counting including skip and patterns in counting. In Technology we worked with a new app – ChatterKids. We used our skills in navigating and photo taking from last term to make some fun and silly looking creations. Don’t forget to keep up with nightly reading.

Ms. Barratt’s Room On the last day of Term 3, Samy, Dylan, Tyler and Kane ran the activities for our Team Colours Day. Well done to the boys for their leadership and maturity in organising and running these events! This week in Maths, we have been exploring skip counting patterns using numbers and shapes to represent a range of sequences. In Writing, we have begun investigating the structure and language of Procedures.
