1 WHAT’S ON AT WWPS? WEEK 5 Monday 25 May Full return to school for all students TERM 2 – WEEK 4 – 2020 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Welcome families to our Term 2, Week 4 newsletter. This newsletter will include detailed information regarding the return to school for students beginning Week 5. Please take the time to read this letter and speak clearly to your child/children about the procedures set out for them on their return to school. Phase 3 return to school WWPS information Earlier this week the NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian, announced that students would return to full time schooling on Monday 25th May 2020. This is fantastic news, as all of our teachers cannot wait to start quality face to face teaching once again. This change means that it is now expected that all students attend school every day, as NSW Health officials have deemed it safe for all students to return to school. If for some reason a parent feels their child should remain at home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the student will now require a doctor’s certificate to remain at home on flexible leave. All other absences will follow the usual processes (note to the class teacher, notification via the school mobile app, notification via Class Dojo). To continue to protect all students and staff, it is still asked that students who have any symptoms of sickness remain at home. Students feeling sick at school will be required to go home also, so please make sure someone is available to collect if this happens. Parents on site The NSW Government have once again asked that all parents stay off the school site, protecting all students and staff. If you do have to come onto site for an urgent reason, please present to the student window at our new admin building. The Government has given permission for parents to operate out of the canteen provided the strictest hygiene measures are followed and helpers remain at a minimum. Our P&C will be sending out information shortly regarding the opening of the canteen, possibly in Week 6. Morning arrival After students arrive at school each morning, there will now be revised procedures for them to follow. Beginning Week 5, there will be clearer guidelines explained to students about the morning, lunchtime, recess and afternoon routines when using our new school site. On Monday 25th of May students will be met by the duty teacher and told where to place their bag/belongings until the first bell rings. After this, the new procedure will be communicated and practised with students. Kindergarten and Yr 1/2 students will have already practised this during their phased return to school day this week. Remember to bring your drink bottle next week. For safety reasons bubblers are not currently available for use

This routine has not changed. Students walk with the bus duty teacher to the basketball court and wait in their bus line until their bus arrives.

All children walking or riding a bike home will meet the teacher on afternoon duty and leave via the Puna Rd gate.

Please see map below - Kiss and Drive located on Beach Road. Two teachers are on duty to assist with the smooth collection of children via parent collection in a car. Parents remain in their car and drive into the Kiss and Drive area. Students only exit school grounds after they have identified their parent/car and the teacher supervising this area identifies the parent/caregiver.Please note: any child being picked up will be directed to this Beach Road area and be supervised with the teachers until they are collected.

Afternoon pick upTo ensure the safety of our students and staff, we will be following a revised afternoon pick up routine. In the afternoon, parents/students now have 3 options for afternoon departure.

EARLY STAGE 1

STAGE 1

Last Thursday, Kindergarten had an amazing day learning out of our new learning spaces. We started the day with a tour around the new school and investigating all of our new buildings. To quote one of our kindy students ‘This is amazing! It is blowing my mind!’ It was fantastic to see the students so excited to be back at school and engaging in face to face learning. Last Wednesday was the dayStage 1 came back to play! Many excited Year 1 and 2 students entered the school gates beaming with joy on their first day back at school with their teachers. Students engaged in a successful day of learning with a variety of literacy, numeracy, music and art activities but most importantly connected with their peers. We did it all again yesterday having a blast in our new learning spaces and we look forward to seeing all students back next week

STAGE 2Finally Stage 2 are in their new learning spaces which look fabulous. They have been busy learning how to use these spaces and have also had a lot of fun testing all the new furniture. Writing on the tables and using all the different kinds of seating has also been a blast. Stage 2 have been busy doing quality learning using these great new learning spaces. It has allowed them to work collaboratively with each other and choose a learning space which suits them best. They have been so engaged in their learning and doing such a great job with this future focused learning.

STAGE 3

Stage 3, what a fabulous first day we had on May 11th, 2020. It was fantastic to see your excitement, for the new innovative learning spaces and how you treated our new classroom with respect. Throughout the day, you demonstrated that you are great leaders for our school, using each new space responsibly. I was so pleased to see you exhibit great pride in your school work, and I noted, especially in Art. I look forward to many more days spent with you all in our new spaces.
