This is an amazing achievement and I would like to commend both students for their commitment to this program. I would also like to recognise the staff who support this program in our school, Mr Dudley and Mr Simpson, and congratulate them on its growth in the number of student participants. Term 2 has been extremely busy with Glenmore Park High School involved in a broad range of programs, sporting, creative and performing arts, debating and public speaking, and leadership - just to mention a few. The success of our students in these programs is outstanding and the way they are always commended for their sportsmanship and outstanding representation of our school in all ways, is a great credit to themselves, their families and of course, our school. I would also like to recognise the fantastic support from the P&C. The Trivia Night they organised earlier this term raised $7,500.00, an amazing effort! This will go towards providing further shade shelter for our students. Thank you must also go to the sponsors who gave support of this night. The P&C will be holding an Election BBQ at the school. Please support them by purchasing a sausage sandwich, cupcake or soft drink on the day. They will also be selling raffle tickets with the prize being a framed Panthers jersey. To all students, staff and families I wish you a restful, safe and happy holiday and look forward to the continuation of our great successes in Term 3. Lisette Gorick Principal Principal’s Report

Deputy Principals Report

It is hard to believe that we have reached the middle of the of the year already! What an incredibly busy term for all of the school community!

At the time of writing, students in years 9,10 and 11 should have been issued with their 1st semester reports. Years 7, 8 will be issued early next term. These reports are designed to give parents meaningful progress on their child's achievement and progress. These reports should give a strong platform for setting the path for future improvement. Our parent/teacher evening for Years 7,8 and 9 will be held early next term. Please “Like” our school Facebook page or download the Skoolbag App for the most current information on important dates. Our school website is also a great source of information. Once the date is finalised, instructions for our online booking system will be sent home with students. This will occur in the first week of Term 3.

Both Ms Caws and I would like to commend students for the high level of participation in all areas of school life. I have enjoyed seeing the great performances of our sporting, debating and performing arts groups. The number of opportunities presented in this school is quite remarkable.

Ms Marlene Cross, our Home School Liaison Officer, has been conducting interviews with students regarding attendance. The link between regular attendance and academic success is well documented. Please ensure that your child attends school on time each day and minimise absenteeism where possible. Finally, we would like to commend parents in their support of our uniform policy. Our school community and P & C have made it clear their commitment to ensuring that our uniform is worn proudly and correctly. We will continue to guarantee that these wishes are supported. Our best wishes to everyone over the winter break!

The senior students from the support unit have been having a fantastic time learning laboratory skills with Tim Radley in the science labs. They have grown in enthusiasm and confidence and have completed some very impressive experiments.

The Support Unit has had a wonderfully musical start to the year thanks to our

relieving Head Teacher Mrs V. The students have loved learning about a range of

instruments and have even dabbled in composing. Their improvement has been

outstanding and their joy at their new skills very obvious.

Xavier The Saviour!

On Friday 20

th May, Xavier from Penrith City Council came to talk to Year 8 at

Glenmore Park High School. He spoke about graffiti, and more generally about the effects of decisions you make coming back to haunt you. He also spoke about ways to avoid dangerous situations and peer pressure. Xavier was funny and he could relate to the students by telling stories of his own childhood. It was a great presentation that was very educational and funny at the same time. Colt Currell Student, 8N

A huge congratulations must go to the Open Girls Basketball team for 2016 as they had an extremely successful season. The girls made it all the way to the State Knockout tournament held in Terrigal over 2 days. By end of day one the girls were top of their pool and progressed to the semi-finals on day two. The girls faced Asquith Girls High and unfortunately lost the game by a small margin. Our team played off for third place in the state against Peel High. Peel High was too strong and after a hard fought tournament the Glenmore girls placed fourth in the state. Our successful girls were:

Madeline Schneider Abbi Williams Emilia Rance Ellie Holland Taylor Robinson Kristen Zahra Olivia Schneider Summer Brown Angela Schneider

Year 9 English

Semester 1 this year was a very busy term indeed for Year 9 English students. The later half of the semester saw our students undertake the Charity and Change topic, which teaches students to use persuasive skills to convince an audience of the value of a charity - something that also prepares the cohort for their last NAPLAN writing task.

Students worked in small groups to come up with their own charities and associated materials and then presented

these to their class in a bid to prove that their charity was the most worthy. As expected, some Glenmore Park High School students demonstrated that they could be very persuasive.

2016 has been a great year for Cross Country at Glenmore Park High School. The school Carnival held at the end of Term 1 was a hugely successful day with some fabulous performances by many students. Congratulations to O’Neill, who were the winning house on the day.

We took a strong team to the Nepean Zone Cross Country at Glenbrook. It is a very challenging course and I would like to commend all competitors who tried hard in their age events. Congratulations to the following students who have made it to Sydney West Cross Country at Eastern Creek: Analiese Langer, Brendan Ficarra, Lachlan Quayle, Caleb Pawlutschenko, Joshua Barrett, Adrian Paez, Natasha Zahra, Kristen Zahra, Summer Bell, Maddy Baker and Mikaela Rushbrook.

Congratulations to Adrian Paez who placed 3rd in the Under 14 Boys at the Sydney West Cross Country. Adrian will now represent Sydney West at the NSW Cross Country on 22nd July. Good luck to Adrian and well done on such a fine run.

I would like to acknowledge the Year 12 students who have represented the school in Cross Country in their time at GPHS. A special acknowledgement to Analiese Langer who has been a wonderful competitor in her 6 years at school and a great role model to her female peers with her fabulous attitude towards Cross Country.
