The first rounds of the SCC girls’ soccer tour-

nament were held in Col Íde, Finglas on a very

wet Wednesday afternoon on September 13th

2017. The eight person Kylemore College

Junior Girls team (team insert) comprised girls

from second & third year and were; Sophie

Gaffney, Kaytlin Wade & Aoife Stanley (2

Joyce) Precious Odalapo (2 Yeats) Jacqueline

Gorman (2 Friel) Faith Fanning & Amber

Buckley (3 Corrib) & Chloe Ryan (3 Moy).

The four schools sending teams were

Clonturk, Col Dhulaigh, Kylemore College

and Marino. In the match against Col Dhulaigh

our goals were scored by Chloe and Jacquel-

ine. In our second match, against Clonturk,

there were many close shots saved by their

strong defence but we finally scored the

winning goal!

The Inter Girls played on Wednesday Septem-

ber 20th. The team were (main photo) Jas-

mine McEvoy, Jorja Gibbons, and Vanessa

Nolan (Class 401) Julia Filip, Kasey Doyle

and Lauren Fitzpatrick (Class 402) & Danielle

Doyle (Class 501). Here we played Larkin and

Ringsend. Unhappily we did not make it

through to the next round on this occasion but

our students played with pride & heart.

First years have now completed five of

their taster subjects and in

December they will complete their sub-

ject choices that they will continue

through to the Junior

Certificate.

All first years are encouraged to take

part in the extensive range of lunch

time and after school clubs and activi-

ties available in Kylemore College. A

full list is available on the “Clubs” no-

ticeboard. Some of the activities avail-

able are: GAA, for girls and boys, art,

music, choir, breakfast club, philosophy

club, drumming, guitar club, homework

club.

FIRST YEARS

GAA

This has been the biggest turnout of

girls for the SCC soccer tournament

since Kylemore College started

participating. It shows the heart and

commitment of our students & staff to

extracurricular healthy activities.

Minor Girls, Holly Ryan Farrell (1Elm), Abby

Gibbons Forte & Katelyn Fitzpatrick (1Oak) and

Katie Doyle, Kayleigh Rogers, Tori Cunningham,

Bobbi McHugh, Grace Dunne & Peaches Cooney

(1Ash) went out to play on Wednesday Sep 27th.

The girls (as well as some other first years includ-

ing Lydia Osunde (1Oak) & Kinga Stephanie

(1Ash)) trained on a Thursday after school with

Richard Farrell an FAI coach, and Ms C O’Dwyer

was their local link teacher.

The Junior Girls went through to a play-off with

Clonturk for a place in the semi finals on

Wednesday Oct 4th. Here Kylemore won the play

off with a score of 3:0. Our goals were scored by

Jacqueline & Precious. We did not get through to

the finals, losing to Colaiste Dhulaigh.

Jacqueline Gorman (above) was awarded the title

(& trophy!) “Player of the tournament”, an acco-

lade previously held by her older brother Joseph,

also playing for Kylemore College. The Kylemore

College players can feel rightly proud! Ms G

Deasy and Ms E Coghlan were link teachers with

the Junior & Inter girls’ teams…..Ms Coghlan

PARENTS COFFEE MORNING

Kylemore College welcomed all parents of our

new first year students, to a coffee morning in

the school library. It gave all parents a chance

to see how their sons and daughters were set-

tling into secondary school.

On November 23rd, Kylemore College Choir and Band headed off to

Prague in the Czech Republic to participate in the Prague Advent Choral

Meeting 2017. This will be the first trip abroad for Kylemore College and

the excitement is building among students and teachers. 11 students from

classes Yeats, Friel, Erne, 401, 402, 501 & 601 will be joined by 8 Music

Centre students and 5 teachers for this 4 day adventure. The students have

been busy working with Mr Kelly and Ms McGuinness putting together a

varied programme of Christmas music. The group will perform in St

Nicholas and St Salvator churches in Prague and will also sing in a

Friendship Concert with 9 other choirs from all over Europe. It promises

to be a trip to remember.

RECORDING PROJECT

In another first, our choir and band has been in the recording studio with Ballyfermot Folk

Group to record some original songs by Ballyfermot man Gerry Simpson. This project has

given our students experience of what is involved in creating music in a recording studio. A

big thank you to Mr Hackett and his PLC students for driving these recording sessions. We

hope to have a CD ready to release later this year or early in the new year….Mr Kelly

Gaelic football got off to a great start for Kylemore College’s

Minor (1st years), Junior (2nd & 3rd years) and Intermediates

(4th, 5th & 6th years) teams.

The Minor team reached on their final on the 4ht October but

unfortunately just missed out to Clonturk College despite a very

determined performance in very difficult conditions. It was a day

that Kylemore have now used to their advantage as they have

won their Leinster Post Primary Schools group and have pro-

gressed on to the next stage of the competition with a chance of

getting a very fair draw as they won their group.

The Junior team captained by Cian Kelly (Class Joyce) had a very

good afternoon on the 13th September with solid performances

from Daniel Ryan Farrell (Yeats) and Aaron Corish (Friel) but to

name a few. As a result they won the Junior CDETB competi-

tion.

The Intermediates captained by Nathan Ennis (Class 502) came

out very deserving winners over Larkin College on the 4th Octo-

ber. Kylemore College came out of the blocks with all cylinders

firing and this was to prove the difference in the end with a score-

line of 3-5 to 1-5.

Performances from Seán O’Connell (502), Dillon Withero

(402) and Lee Clarke Raymond (602) contributed to a very

successful afternoon. Nathan Ennis received the referees

man of the match award.

All in all a very good start for Gaelic football and a prom-

ising year ahead…. Mr Bermingham
