PERANBIN PRIMARY COLLEGE NEWS
This Thursday was a special day at Violet Town with the whole college coming together with 10 students from Longwood Primary who joined us for the day. All the students mixed harmoniously and participated enthusiastically in the Marguk workshops and the other activities organised for them. The senior Violet Town boys ran a popular football clinic to finish off the day, before a whole school assembly run by student leaders. It was great to see our school values in action throughout the day – respect, responsibility, high expectations and integrity!
Our Athletics Sports are coming up fast – 7th of September – and there is a change of venue this year! Strathbogie is hosting the sports at their Rec Reserve, where there are excellent facilities and a warm welcome from the community. We are hoping to see as many families as possible on the day as the children love to have you cheer them on. If you are able to help out on the day, please let your teacher know. We are still looking for a few event leaders.
Parent/teacher Interviews will be held at your campus in week 8 – from the 4th of September. Your child should bring home a parent/teacher interview sheet today. Please choose a time that suits you and send the form back to school. These interviews are a valuable element of the partnership between home and school, which supports your child’s success. Your child’s NAPLAN results will be given to you at the interview, if applicable, and you will be able to discuss them with the teacher.

NEWS FROM BADDAGINNIE SWANPOOL
Mr. Clelland’s Room In class this week we have continued our work on fractions. The children learnt how to find the fraction of a whole number and to identify equivalent fractions. In our grammar work this week the students learnt speech marks and how to use them correctly in sentences. We have continued our work on the Invisible Farmer Project focusing on interviewing and questioning techniques. The students have filmed themselves and provided feedback and reflection for their peers. We had a wonderful incursion at Violet Town and enjoyed our footy match in the afternoon.
Ms. Fitz’s This week at a glance: Letter of the week has been Letter Uu. In Writing this week we have worked on a Cinquain Poem, which we will hopefully publish next week to add to a growing portfolio of poems and stories. In Math’s this week we have been learning about mass. Our Math’s fluency tasks have been about subtraction. (take away) Well done to Libby and Sarah for moving on in their 100 most used words this week. On Thursday we had a great day out at Violet Town Campus for the Marguk Incursion, and learnt some different aspects about the Aboriginal Culture and dance. The Junior and Senior football games after lunch was a highlight with lots of action and competitiveness. The Junior Class from Swanpool/Baddaginnie were very well behaved. Have a good weekend.
INVISIBLE FARMER On Wednesday 30th of August, we will run information sessions for our project. We have spoken with quite a few women to invite them to our sessions. If you know anyone who we haven't contacted, please let Eron know. There will be two session- 11.00 am at Violet Town campus and then at 5.30 pm at Strathbogie Hall. Thank you so much to Sonia Chapman, Faye Whitewood and Kerry Wilson for their help with this. If you can't make these sessions and would like more information, please contact Eron as soon as possible. We are hoping to get students interviewing in week 8- the week after next.

Friday 1st September- Book Character Day. Come dressed as your favourite book character. If you can please bring the book your character is from, with your favourite part marked so you can share it.
Miss. Hanby’s Room This week the Junior Room students have been very busy. We have continued our reading of "I was a Rat Or the Scarlet Slippers", which is now touching on issues regarding stories portrayed in the media and their effects on society. We have also been experimenting with rhyming words and the students have created their own silly poems. Below are some examples. In Math’s, we have been learning about mass and examining the kilogram. The students really enjoyed the Marguk Indigenous Dance/Drama Workshop on Thursday, and we learned a lot about the importance of native animals and totems for Aboriginal tribes. I built a panel van I ban the cat But I saw a little man At home with the bat And he was not fat The cat went to the van So I gave him a hat, To try to get a tan And he gave me a big cat! Then she went willy-wonkers back home! -Nate -Audrey I know a little old man, Who loved to live in a can. He owned a cat, Who sat on a mat The man said, "May I roll you flat?" - Alex Ms. Chapman and Mrs. Week's Room We have had a really productive week this week. We had a wonderful time at Violet Town on Thursday. The Marguk workshop really helped us learn about Indigenous Identity. In poetry we have constructed Limericks and Bio Poems. Our understanding of fractions in real world context has increased a great deal. You can hear more about our week by listening to our weekly podcast- http://strathbogie-kids.madewithopinion.com/marguk-fractions-poems-and-footy-1/#

Mrs. B’s and Ms. Hand’s Room Words…words…words! We have had a busy week with naming words, describing words and action words to make our writing more interesting. Then of course, there have been our spelling words and all the words we have read with our big book, class books and take home books. We love them! What a great time we had learning about animal totems during yesterday’s Marguk workshop. Lots of expression with faces and bodies to show our connections to our own personal animal totem. Ms. Barratt’s Room On Tuesday the Grade 5/6s were visited by Mr. Cheung and Miss. Hepburn, from Euroa Secondary College, as they continue their transition to Secondary College. In Math’s we have been learning about fractions, by creating and naming a range of fractions with shapes and unifix, and solving and creating fraction stories. In Reading, we are learning to find the meaning of unfamiliar words in our texts, by using the context for clues.
Coming up at Violet Town campus: Parent/Teacher Interviews: These interviews are planned for Monday September 4th between 3.35 and 5.45pm. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to discuss their academic and social progress. Please find the attached booking form, choose a suitable time and return to school early next week. If Monday is not a suitable day for you please don’t hesitate to contact teachers to arrange another day. 29th Sept: Foundation, Grades 1 and 2 visit the Violet Town Kinder.
