LEADER BIBLE STUDY Corinth was so wicked that it was legendary. Cultic prostitution was rampant and

widely practiced in the name of religion to the goddess Aphrodite. When Paul arrived

in Corinth, he found Aquila and his wife, Priscilla. They had come to Corinth because

the Jews were ordered to leave Rome. Luke did not say when Aquila and Priscilla

came to faith in Jesus but mentioned the trade that Paul had in common with them:

tentmaking and possibly working with leather. It was common for a rabbi to practice

a skill in addition to his study; therefore, Paul was able to support himself, as needed,

on his missionary journeys.

As a bivocational minister and by God’s direction to keep preaching without fear,

Paul stayed in Corinth longer than a year and a half (Acts 18:9-11). When he left for

Ephesus, Aquila and Priscilla went with him. From there Paul journeyed on while

Aquila and Priscilla remained and heard the teaching of Apollos, a man educated in

the Scripture. After meeting him they educated him more accurately of the good

news of Jesus. Because Aquila and Priscilla invested in Apollos, he continued to be an

effective witness for Christ.

Aquila and Priscilla loved Jesus so much their love spilled over into loving acts

of kindness to others. They shared their home and connected with Paul on both a

spiritual and practical level. How can you demonstrate your love for Jesus to others?

How can you invest in others to the glory of God?

his wife, Priscilla.

PRISCILLA AND AQUILA LEARNED ABOUT JESUS—Based on Acts 18:1-4,18-28

Paul went many places teaching people about Jesus. While Paul was in the city of

Corinth, he met a man named Aquila and his wife, Priscilla.

Aquila and Priscilla made tents. Paul was a tentmaker, too. Paul stayed with Aquila

and Priscilla and worked with them making tents.

Paul, Aquila, and Priscilla became good friends. Aquila and Priscilla traveled to

another city with Paul to help him tell people about Jesus.

Aquila and Priscilla met a man who loved Jesus. His name was Apollos. They

invited Apollos to come to their house where they taught Apollos more about Jesus.

Apollos was very glad to learn more about Jesus. Apollos traveled to other cities

and told people all he had learned about Jesus.

►Review the Bible story. Show the Teaching Picture and ask questions. Invite a child

to attach the picture on a wall or bulletin board in the group-time area. Review the

Teaching Pictures and stories of Paul meeting Lydia and of Paul in Athens.

►Say the Unit Verse. Hold up the Unit 3 Verse strip and read the verse. Ask the

children to say it. Clap on each word as you say the verse. Lead children to tell you

what they know about Jesus. Say that people can love Jesus and tell about Him.

►Pray and learn a Bible Verse. Pray with the boys and girls. Thank God for His Son,

Jesus. Ask God to help people in your church show love for Jesus. Open the Bible to

the Weekly Verse and read it. Encourage the children to repeat the verse after you.

Lead them to think of motions to do with the verse. (If children do not suggest any

motions, offer suggestions yourself.) Repeat the verse with the motions.

►Read a book. Give each child one of the Find It at Church Cards. Look at the book

Find It At Church together and encourage the children to hold up their cards when

they see their items pictured in the book.

►Wrap it up. Show the “Priscilla and Aquila Learned About Jesus: Life Action” video.
