Enhance Health (INTERREG IIIC)

For this project, with full title “Environmental Health Surveillance System in urban areas near incinerators and industrial premises”, RACTI developed a GIS web-based survey system, that identifies and maps:

How is environmental pollution related to health problems? How is environmental pollution related to health problems?

The system uses combinative analysis and produces alerts and queries results, for epidemiological factors and vice versa, all presented in colored maps.

SIPROCI (INTERREG IIIC)

Interregional response to natural and man-made catastrophes, a project in the field of Civil Protection, helped 7 European countries to improve the local and regional response to catastrophes and disasters.

RACTI was mainly involved in the work for:The use of new information and communication technologiesThe use of new information and communication technologiesand had as result the identification of a “Crisis Mobile Phone” system, used in the Czech Republic and by the Network of emergency call centres – 112.

RACTI also, took part in several full-scale disaster simulations around Europe, regarding forest fires, tornados, earthquakes and indusrtrial accidents.

RACTI participated actively in 2 international conferences, both in Italy, regarding Risk and Crisis Management.

First one was the European Workshop “ICT and Civil Protection: “ICT and Civil Protection: current state and future scenarios”current state and future scenarios”. The purpose was to share knowledge and experience as well as to acquire a general structured view on the ICT applied methods for risk management/assessment.

The second, recently, was the ““Proximity Emergency Network for Proximity Emergency Network for Common European Communication”Common European Communication”. The purpose was to present Emergency procedures in case of terrorist attack, as well as Mass emergency communication characteristics, aims, procedures and obstacles.

“Forest Fire Risk Management Information System – (FFRMIS)”

RACTI had the scientific and technical supervision for the implementation of the above project, regarding an Innovative ICT system that currently works at the Region of the Ionian Islands, in Greece. Main features of the FFRMIS:Main features of the FFRMIS:

•Monitors the fleet of firefighting vehicles in real time, using a wireless GPRS network•Receives meteorological measurements, in real time, from stationary and mobile weather stations•Estimates the risk of a new fire break-out, anywhere in the region of concern, in real time •Helps both fire fighters and their coordinators, to perform better and more precise in their task

RACTI : RACTI : Role in the “PRoMPt” projectRole in the “PRoMPt” project

Recent wild fires in the Region of Western Greece, demonstrated the need for effective and quick reaction.

This can be improved through Information Technology, Safe Mobile Communication and Advanced Radio Frequency Broadcasting.

To support the above, RACTI, as technological partner of the “PROMPT” project, will propose to the SC, the following actions:

“PRoMPt” Kick-off meeting, PATRAS, 18-19 December 2008

RACTIRACTIRole in the Role in the ““PROMPT” PROMPT” projectproject

RACTI will offer its knowledge, experience and specialisation by participating in two of the thematic Working Groups of the first phase, as well as in the Task Forces of the second phase.

By its participation to the WGs, RACTI will contribute to the collection of good practices and then, at the second phase, depending both on the results and the necessities derived, will support TFs, focused on best cases identification and improvement.

For the dissemination of the project activities and results, RACTI will use innovative web tools and techniques, and its experience in Conferences, Workshops, etc.

“PRoMPt” Kick-off meeting, PATRAS, 18-19 December 2008

RACTIRACTIRole in the Role in the ““PROMPT” PROMPT” projectproject

RACTI could take part in Simulations and Contingency plan exercises, by creating and operating an innovative Wi-Fi alert system, for quick and correct information during the crisis period.

The local population will form the receivers of such information. As the project proceeds, new user groups and information relay media may be determined (e.g. PDAs, Public Screens)

During all project activities, RACTI will collect data, civil protection mechanism indicators and real incidents information, in order to understand the actual needs for the system development.
