PROBUS member Shirley Prittie, kindly opened up The Manse gallery in Baysville and extended her hospitality to the group.

Let’s raise our glasses to Betsy Rothwell, Barbara Burton and Jim Miller! This totally awesome team put together a fabulous event. I have asked our President Lynne Newell to give us an overview of the Beer Tour.

On May 18, several members headed off by bus on our “beer” excursion. Sawdust City in Gravenhurst was our first destination where we were treated to a great tour and assorted tastes of beer. At Lake of Bays Brewery in Baysville we got to tour, taste and visit a local art gallery. Muskoka Brewery in Bracebridge was our final stop to taste more local brews. Everyone was able to find a favourite (or two….or three!) We ate a great meal at the Cast Iron Restaurant in Baysville where we socialized and swapped names of our new favourite beers. Barb kept us entertained on the bus with her trivia questions, snacks, great sense of humour and great prizes (beer of course). Lots of laughs and lots of fun!

Ken Morrison The Art of Imitating Life June’s Guest Speaker

While his skill as a woodcarver has earned him all sorts of awards and recognition, being an expert at taxidermy hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Over the last 10 years he has worked on several different contracts for the Royal Ontario Museum and has restored and mounted more than 100 birds for ROM, some of which are extinct, in-cluding the Carolina Parakeet. Last year, he resurrected and repaired 12 passenger pigeons for a display that honoured the bird’s extinction 100 years ago.

Eva OlssonEva OlssonEva OlssonEva Olsson Talk about a consummate speaker, Eva Olsson was spellbinding as she related some of the horrors of her young life in Auschwitz. At 93 years old her manner of delivery was so profound that I know there were very few dry eyes in the audience.

This Trivia organizing committee has the event down pat. On Wednesday June 8, Heather spewed out questions to a sold out audience. Everyone agreed it was super fun with the exception of the “trees” segment which produced many groans. Trust this committee to come up with something that will always stretch our minds. Anne & Bill Rogers and Heather and David Hockin are to be commended on the entire day. Our dinner host, Muskoka on the Rocks served up a delicious dinner . All of the scores were very close, but there was a definitive winning team scoring 85 out of the 100 questions. They were Margaret Connor, Pat Flanagan, Judy Clapp, Cathy Nystrom, Peter Hill and David Caswell. (pictured below)

The runners up with a score of 82 were Sheila Mills, Marilyn Stirling, Anne Rogers, Ron Hill, Steve Tonge and Sandy Raven. Congrats to everyone for a grand effort!!

Please take a few moments to intro-duce yourself during the coffee break, welcome them to our club, and encourage them to join the Events and Interest Groups. Have you lost or misplaced your name badge? Let me know so I can order another at a small cost to you. Ken and Barb will be hosting at their Huntsville Condo -- 35 Dairy Lane, Suite 101. Our theme will be "Summer Memories!". So as Summer 2016 unfolds, let's have our cameras ready to capture memorable scenes and activities that we want to preserve. And let's also have a look through our photo archives for scenes and activities that evoke "Summer Memories From

The Past!". If you cannot appear in person, emailed images to [email protected] are always welcome. And if you'd just like to see what the Photo Group is all about, please feel free to come along and join the fun as a spectator!

The plan is to meet at the Mizzy Lake parking lot adjacent to Hwy 60 in the Park at 9:00 am. Then do a 12 km morning hike, meet for lunch (TBA) with an option for an additional hike after-wards. Once the final numbers are confirmed arrangements will be made for car pooling. Please confirm with David ASAP and he will co-ordinate the hike.

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2016

You all know how popular this event is!!!!!! Tickets will go on sale at our June PROBUS Meeting

…….and we are strongly suggesting that you buy your tickets early!!!!

Those of us you who have been fortunate enough to participate in this event know just what an extrodinary time is had by all of the participants.

“SLOW DOWN, BACK UP, ARE WE DIVORCING, OMG I THINK I SEE IT!” All phrases that we have heard.

And we thought that we had seen it all!!!!

But this year Pat Spencer & Jean Campbell have researched a totally new route that hopefully no one has travelled before!!!

To infinity & beyond!!! But still in beautiful Muskoka at the height of the Fall colours!

We will be ending up at Grand Tappattoo Lodge on Otter Lake, that boasts a beautiful patio overlooking the lake, where we can enjoy

much deserved drinks after our trek! Buffet dinner will be served with lovely choices

including roast beef and chicken. Instead of our Port Sydney start we will begin our adventure

from Rosseau……..and of course, Jean and Pat will provide explicit instructions on how to get home the easy way!! Whew!!!

Talk about an exciting new experience, these two ladies have gone beyond

amazing to make October 6 a date to remember. Tickets are limited...DON’T MISS OUT!!!
