Although the figures of business volume as not clear upto now, we can expect a humongous amount of business to be closed in the next few days. Buyers from across the globe particularly from Russia, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, and the African continent were present in large numbers alongwith the neighbouring countries like Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to explore business opportunities with India. The Primary reason for the increased interest is the improving reputation of India in the International trade circle, India is seen as more reliable and trustworthy partner in doing business besides being cost effective. The other highlights of the event were the seminar sessions which were going housefull particularly the most interesting topic was about how Blockchain can revolutionise Internationaltradeanditsopportunities for Indian exporters. The Speaker Mr. Sudhakar Kasture who is the director of Helpline Impex Pvt. Ltd. Explained in simple terms what is Blockchain “It is a continuously growing list of records, which are combined in “blocks” that are then “chained” to each other using cryptography – hence the term “blockchain”. Transactions are shared, verified and validated on a peer-to- peer basis, blockchain can operate without the need for a central authority or trusted intermediaries. Information, once added to a blockchain, is time- stamped and cannot easily be modified. Thus being an encrypted digital record, its content cannot be deleted and even if it is changed it can be seen in audit trail. This feature / innovation can reduce the time in processing such as verifying of documents for its authenticity and reliability in the documentation process, Customs clearance, Geodata, Logistics, and this in turn translates into shorter turnover time. Being in digital format it brings in transparency and is being adopted worldwide.” The Next Seminar on Neutraceuticals research and market was presented by Dr. Lal Hingorani MD of Pharmanza Herbals Pvt. Ltd. He explained the emerging demand for Nutraceuticals which are products derived from food sources that are purported to provide extra health benefits, in addition to the basic nutritional value found in foods. The products may claim to prevent chronic diseases, improve health, delay the aging process, increase life expectancy, or support the structure or function of the body. There are several rules and regulations applicable. The exporter and importer are required to have good working knowledge of the Indian Customs Act, and the Customs Tariff Act. The procedure also changes sometimes product to product. The objective of the importer /exporter is to ensure that the transaction goes smoothly. For this purpose, sound knowledge of the theory is essential. You should have a working knowledge of the practice which is followed in different ports by the officers. One has to update with the latest notification and circulars related to import and export. International customs practice makes it essential for administrations to provide simple, predictable and efficient Customs procedures for the clearance of goods. One has to ensure compliance with national laws, international agreements and meeting security challenges. The implication of GST is also to be studied.

Visit us at stall X164Mr. Sudhakar Kasture addressing the audience on the topic blockchain.

Dr. Lal Hingorani on the subject Nutraceutical – A term used to describe medicinally or nutritionally functional foods.

Over the past few years, an increasing number of dietary supplements have become available in supermarkets and health food shops and they are also available for purchase in pharmacies.

The term “nutraceutical” is used to describe these medicinally or nutritionally functional foods. Nutraceuticals, which have also been called medical foods, designer foods, phytochemicals, functional foods and nutritional supplements, include such everyday products as “bio” yoghurts and fortified breakfast cereals, as well as vitamins, herbal remedies and even genetically modified foods and supplements. Many different terms and definitions are used in different countries, which can result in confusion.

The term “nutraceutical” was coined in 1989 by Stephen De Felice, founder and chairman of the Foundation for Innovation in Medicine, an American organization which encourages medical health research. He defined a nutraceutical as a “food, or parts of a food, that provide medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease”.In Canada, a functional food has been defined as being “similar in appearance to conventional foods consumed as part of a usual diet” whereas a nutraceutical is “a product produced from foods but sold in pills, powders, (potions) and other medicinal forms not generally associated with food”.In Britain, the Ministry of

Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has developed a definition of a functional food as “a food that has a component incorporated into it to give it a specific medical or physiological benefit, other than purely nutritional benefit”.Hence, both in Canada and in Britain, a functional food is essentially a food, but a nutraceutical is an isolated or concentrated form. In America, “medical foods” and “dietary supplements” are regulatory terms however “nutraceuticals”, “ f u n c t i o n a l foods”, and other such terms are d e t e r m i n e d by consultants and marketers,

based on consumer trends. Many of these new products that are being promoted to treat various disease states, find their origins in the plant kingdom. This is an obvious choice as many plants produce secondary compounds such as alkaloids to protect themselves from infection and these constituents may be useful in the treatment of human infection. There is also a long history of plant use in many cultures which can be used to identify plants with activity in the treatment of disease.

Mr. Mihir Ajit Shah addressing the gathering on the recent changes in the policies, procedures and compliances for exporters.
