Tuning

Fuzzy-Tuning Two methods of initial tuningare available:- Auto-Tuning ”one shot“- Natural frequency ”one shot“The Fuzzy-Tuning automaticallyselects one of the two methodswhich assure the best resultfor each condition.

The Auto-Tuning method worksbest on the step responsebasis.When activated, if a deviationexists between the Setpointand process variable largerthan 5% of scale range, thecontroller modifies the outputvalue. Then, in a short time, itcalculates the PID parametersand the new algorithm isoperational immediately .The main advantages of thismethod are fast calculationand quick implementation.

The Natural frequency methodworks best when the processvariable is very near to theSetpoint. When activated, itcauses a process oscillationaround the Setpoint value.The main advantage of thismethod is a reduceddisturbance to the process.

Adaptive-TuningIt is self-teaching and waits forprocess change to recalculatethe new PID parameters.The new PID calculation does not influence the controloutput, avoiding anydisturbance.The PID optimisation is done only when necessary (e.g. Setpoint changes orprocess disturbances like loadchanges). No action by the operator isrequired.The operating mode ofAdaptive-Tuning is safe anduser friendly. It tests theprocess response after adisturbance, it memorises theintensity and frequency of thereaction, then the Adaptive-Tuning checks the newinformation with its statistical data base.The correct PID algorithm isthen ready to implement.This tuning is ideal for non-linear processes where the PIDparameters must be adapted to changing conditions.

Configuration software

A software tool is available toimprove both the configurationand the parameterization. All the data can be stored to file. It is also possible to down-load the linearisationof the “custom” input by using the polynomial’scoefficients and to configure the PROFIBUS DP profile file.

Memory chip

The memory chip makespossible a fast and safe transfer of data related to the configuration and all parameters.With a simple operation, the information can be storedand copied to the memory chip.The procedure can beprotected by a password.

Fast view

The Fast view is apassword protectedreview procedure of the 10 most usefulparameters. The combination of aluminous andcomprehensive displayand the ergonomickeypad allows theimmediate access tothe Fast view.

PROFIBUS DP SlaveIndustrial standard forperipheral devices connectionto a machine in a plant.

The protocol installed in thiscontroller, offers the followingadvantages against thestandard normallysupplied by other suppliers:• Communications baudrate

Up to 12 Mb/s with electricisolation

• The list of data transfer(profile file) is userconfigurable. It can be set by means the gammadue®

configuration software.

The mathematical package isable to process any information

there is in the controller by using a simple set of mathematical operations.For instance it can comparetwo values by selecting higheror lower, to do the sum or the ratio and so on.Together with Modbus Master,it becomes a very powerful information handler;

it can, for example, send to different controllers thesame Setpoint profile withdifferent values forevery controller.

Modbus serialcommunications allows a controller to exchangeinformations with otherdevices, gammadue® series or others with Modbus Slaveserial communications (PLC).For instance it is possible toread the acquired value from agammadue® C1 indicator withalarms and send this value as remote Setpoint to a gammadue® X3 controller; or the gammadue® Q5 controllercan send the Setpoint profile of the running program to manyX1 or Q1 controllers withoutSetpoint programmer function.An Q5 controller can realize a

simple network for the lowlevel data management. The Q5 can also reducethe work of the SCADA and grant the exchange of data in case of its failure.

Modbus Master Mathematical package

Self-configuring supervision software. Major features includemonitoring and control of the connected devices, the visualisationby means of instrument faceplates, trend and mimic pages, data archiving as well as report generation. A self-configuring tool automatically polls the connected devices and build up the application software, reducing the start-up costs.
