“Producer’s Corner” at Capital Area Law Group is a unique program that helps independent production companies navigate the waters of the cable television documentary industry and distribute their content across various media platforms.

The entertainment industry is unique and complex. If your lawyer does not fully understand the intricacies of entertainment law, you could face a variety of legal problems with your production, even litigation. Capital Area Law Group’s clients are media companies and independent producers. They each share one concern: “Producing a Successful Media Project.” Our clients focus on creating their media while we focus on their legal needs. Producing a television show or film is tough. We help producers identify and overcome the obstacles that can derail any project.

Capital Area Law Group helps clients with television production and distribution, licensing, financing, merchandising and intellectual property matters. We also assist qualified producers in shopping their television show concept to various cable television networks.

Capital Area Law Group regularly provides counsel to entertainment clients in the following areas:

Network Negotiations

Identify compatible and interested networks, schedule meetings with programming personnel, and groom producers for formal pitch sessions.

Film and Television Production Documents

Negotiate and draft the full range of production documents and individual agreements for "above the line" professionals, on-air talent, crew, and other individuals.

Producer’s Representative Services

Shop completed films to television networks and distributors. Respond to RFPs from major cable television networks in order to place our client’s content. Seek “pre-sale” buy-in from domestic and international sources.

Corporate Governance

Often overlooked by producers, a network will only do business with producers that operate a healthy business. We organize all aspects of your business in order to make it an attractive partner to networks.

Producers should never approach networks until their house is in order. Capital Area Law Group helps producers get their house in order and overcome the many obstacles that prevent their programs from being picked up by the networks.
