Telecommunications
16
Country Leisure can turn its hand to producing almost any product using glass fibrereinforced plastic, and the telecommunications industry is no exception. The
company provides standard bespoke products such as antenna casings and has alsobeen instrumental in the success of some highly sensitive and unique projects aroundthe world.
Telecommunications antennae are usually subject to stringent planningconsiderations, often creating problems that need to be resolved to ensure theexecution of the project. The ‘windmill’ pictured here is a prime example. WhenMercury Telecom was refused planning permission for a new steeltelecommunications tower, a completely innovative structure was suggested – a ‘false’windmill. Country Leisure made the idea reality by creating transparent fibreglassstructures at the tip of the windmill sails to house three telecommunications antennaewithout obstruction of the antennae signals.

Alton Towers
This prestigious project is a greatexample of how the
construction process of a complexleisure park structure is undertaken– in this case a twin waterslidesystem and additional waterfeatures.
The slide structure, which had beendesigned and fabricated to theclients instructions, was delivered tosite in pieces held in speciallydesigned wooden frames forpracticality (see picture Stage 1).

Right: Stage 4, Completed installation
The slide was constructed quickly and efficiently for theconstituent parts (see picture Stage 2). However, it wasnot simply the slide structure that was provided byCountry Leisure. Special fibreglass water cannons werealso fitted to the poolside for a more enjoyable bathingexperience in the ‘Bubbly Wubbly Pool’ (shown pictureStage 3 and picture Stage 4 in use).
With the help of Country Leisure(GRP) the client succeeded in its aimto create a fun pool area for all thefamily (picture Stage 5).

25
This project is a fine example of the way CountryLeisure is able to adapt to a client’s requirements in
order to fulfil their requirements to the last detail.
The client was creating awater-based theme parkride based on thetraditional log flume idea. They were determined tohave a realistic lookingflume that resembled anactual tree. To ensure thiswas the case the teamactually went to a nearbyforest, found a suitableScots Pine tree and took amould direct from the tree(see picture Stage 1).
The mould was then taken to the production unit toproduce a moulding of the tree bark for dressing on tothe timber log boat pattern and further work wasundertaken by hand to ensure each detail, from visualappearance to texture, was as close to a real tree aspossible prior to manufacturing the production mould(see picture Stages 2-5).
After completion, the first log boat off the productionline was tested using weights to ensure the smoothrunning of the ride (Stage 6). After the successful trial, the Raging River Log Boats were sent to Hong Kong’sOcean Park. Result: delighted client and users.

The Elephant
Country Leisure manufacture a wide range ofstandard products for the leisure industry, from
swimming pool steps to fantasy pool animals.
This set of pictures shows the process that goes intocreating one standard product: an elephant poolornament and water feature. This particular examplewas produced for Certikin Ltd and is now used all overthe world.
All GRP products are made using moulds. The first stepof tooling when making new signs is to cut out askeleton pattern in the intended shape of the product, and then using modelling clay, complete the pattern(stage 2). The pattern is then fenced to enable theproduction mould to be made in sections for ease ofmoulding and demoulding. On completion of mouldmaking it is finished by drilling, trimming and polishingas necessary, until ready for production.
A variety of surface textures and patterns can beintegrated and colours added by the use of self colouredgelcoats.

Pool In The Park
In addition to being the leading supplier of swimmingpool products in the industry, Country Leisure, along
with sister company Loyal Grove Leisure, is an expert atcreating large scale structures such as this water slidefabricated for Pool in the Park, Woking.
Firstly the constituent parts of this complex tubestructure were delivered to site for ease of constructionin situ (see picture Stage 1). The particular difficulty withthis particular project was the external structure and it’spassage through the building wall. The construction ofthis element is shown in picture Stage 2.
The successful completion of this logistical intricacyusing steel support poles, left just the finishing touchesto be made to the fibreglass slide (see picture Stage 3)and to the delight of the client, the slide was ready foruse! (see picture stage 4).
