We now proudly present the EC233 – a completely new tiltrotator for excavators up to 33 metric tons. The EC233 is a generation 2 model built using the very latest tiltrotator technology.

Its many features and characteristics include a 45-degree tilt angle for best access, robust design with cast body, a central lubrication system and heavy-duty shaft journals for extended service life; it comes ePS ready – the engcon Positioning System for synchronization with the excavator guidance system for maximum efficiency. Standard equipment also includes tilt cylinders with load holding valves and the Q-Safe quick hitch prepared for EC-Oil for maximum safety and efficiency.

"It will be engcon's most powerful tiltrotator yet. We have great confidence in the model as it was tested hard on big machines during the Swedish winter of 2016/2017," says Fredrik Jonsson, Head of development at the engcon Group.

The EC233 will be showcased at this summer's trade fairs, and the first pilot models will start rolling out this fall. Series delivery is planned for New Year, 2018.

Over the past few years, we have successively replaced our old generation tiltrotators, and now it’s time for the last of the old-timers as the heavyweight EC30 is replaced by the EC233.

Thousands of miles of forest roads are built deep into northern Sweden’s backcountry, and on one of them excavator operator Eddie Sethsson is testing engcon’s latest tiltrotator, the EC233.Eddie operates a Volvo EC300D for Ottossons Åkeri AB in Strömsund and after a couple weeks of testing, he has only good things to say about engcon’s new tiltrotator for excavators in the 25-33 metric ton range.

“The 233 feels stable and everything has worked just fine,” says Eddie when he stops for a chat.Previously, Eddie had an EC30 on the machine, but he’s put it aside while he

tests the EC233.The Volvo is equipped with an

excavator guidance system with tilt guiding from Novatron. Eddie wants to see if it’s possible to upgrade the software so that he can also connect the rotation function through engcon’s ePS system, which is easy to connect to the new tiltrotator.

On the same forest road, his Dad, Seth Henriksson exposes stumps, rocks and frozen soil with a Komatsu 155 bulldozer. It’s worth mentioning here that Seth was one of the very first to test an engcon tiltrotator in the early 90s.

The grab arms on the new GR20R2 are sturdier and made from high-strength steel with a hardness of 400 Brinell for maximum service life. We’ve fitted the grab arms with supporting bosses for more stable control of the load and the grab cylinders now have thicker walls to handle higher hydraulic pressures.

"The upgrades are in response to our customers' views and requests," says Fredrik Jonsson, Head of development at the engcon Group.

To make grabbing and handling objects easier, grabs will now be angled downwards up to 42 degrees.

The GR20R2 is suitable for use with engcon's Q-Safe quick hitch and can therefore also be fitted with EC-Oil for automatic connection of hydraulic tools such as ballast tampers, sleeper layers, timber grabs and compactors etc.

The GR20R2 will replace the earlier model with immediate effect.

engcon’s railway grab stronger still

In 2012, engcon launched its powerful GR20RR railway grab, an integrated grab specially modified for handling railway sleepers and rails. And now, four years later, it's time for a thorough update. The new model – the GR20R2 – together with engcon's tiltrotator, makes excavators even more efficient.

"This is a natural adaptation as our new EC204 tiltrotator for excavators in the 2-4 metric tons range will take over part of the EC02B market," explains Fredrik Jonsson, Head of development at the engcon Group. Fredrik also tells us that the EC02B is now only available with the smallest quick hitch types.

"The EC02B will be equipped with our S30 quick hitches as standard; however, if necessary the it is available with other types of quick hitch, as long as they are the equivalent size of the S30," says Fredrik.

The change comes into force immediately and the EC02B will only be available with quick hitches larger than the S30 in special cases. In such cases it will be counted as a special product with components that are not normally stocked. In addition to its suitability for the 2-4 2-4 metric tons weight range and its S40 quick hitch compatibility, the EC204 can also be fitted with an integrated grab.

engcon’s smallest tiltrotator, the EC02B has had its weight classification reduced to 1.5 - 2.5 metric tons (from 1.5 – 3.5 metric tons).

engcon’s QSC locking system, a clever innovation that standardizes the locking operation of excavator buckets, has just completed an extensive certification programme and is now approved by the SP Technical Research Institute, equivalent to the German certification body TÜV, and others.

QSC was developed by engcon Group-owned company Microprop. The system standardizes the locking of the excavator bucket or other tool, independent of the excavator model or type of quick release. Previously, the locking system depended on the make of excavator and quick release, increasing the risk of handling errors.

Certification of the engcon QSC locking system has been carried out in close collaboration with the SP Technical Research Institute in Sweden.

”SP certification of the engcon QSC demonstrates the importance of having people within your company who are genuinely interested in the development of safety-critical control systems,” says Johan Hedberg, head of the Automation Group in SP Electronics.

The SP certificate awarded to the engcon QSC safety locking system consists of Performance Level (PL) certification to the safety standard EN ISO 13849-1: 2016 and EC approval, At the time of writing, QSC is the only locking system with this significant third-party approval.

”We are very proud of this unique certification,” says Roberth Jonsson, Business Development & Product Manager at Microprop. ”It feels great that a company, which began in a small town in Sweden, can grow to create unique innovations and demonstrate outstanding results throughout Europe. This certification proves,that, once again, we are good at what we do.”

Used with the right excavator guidance system, the ePS offers brand new functions. Together with excavator guidance systems from Leica, Trimble, Topcon and MOBA, both the bucket’s tilt and rotation positions are displayed.

Maximum contact with the new EC-OilWe've updated EC-Oil, engcon's fully hydraulic solution for automatically connecting hydraulic tools without leaving the cab. The big news is a completely newly developed blade-model electrical connector with increased contact surfaces. We've also moved it to the top of the hitch to protect it better from oil and dirt.

The new connector has 12 sturdy pins (6 + 6). It was tested hard during the winter of 2016/2017 with tens of thousands of connections in environments with dirt, salt water and snow, etc. and the results were exclusively positive. The pins are wedge-shaped, and on connection they are inserted approx 20 mm into the spring-loaded female connector. This keeps the pins clean and provides maximum contact in all positions.

EC-Oil connectors are simple and robust. Each part of the connector (male + female) contains only one (1) O-ring, which is very easily accessible. The O-ring is located in the quick coupler’s part of the connection.

Otherwise, there are no more O-rings as the conical shape seals the connections. The clever design also makes EC-Oil the market's best value-for-money solution for fully hydraulic couplers.

Because the location of the connectors has changed, the new EC-Oil block cannot be connected to earlier versions. However, it is possible to install the new EC-Oil block in Q-Safe quick couplers and EC-Oil attachment brackets delivered January 2016 and later without any customization. In some cases, earlier versions may also fit, but this should be checked case by case.

New EC-Oil will be built into the Q-Safe quick coupler in the sizes QS45, QS70, QS60, QS50 and QS80 for excavators from 6 to 33 metric tons. The QS60 will be first with the first deliveries anticipated for the middle of June. The other sizes will be introduced throughout the summer and fall of 2017.

Combi grabs come in four sizes: - TGHD 25 – 0.25 m³ volume for 4-9 metric ton excavators - TGHD 28 – 0.28 m³ for 9-14 metric ton exca-vators - TGHD 42 – 0.42 m³ for 12-19 metric ton excavators - TGHD 55 – 0.55 m³ for 19-26 metric ton excavators. “These are the most frequently requested sizes, but we are always open to suggestions if other sizes are required,” says Johan.

Grab, lift, load with engcon’s combi/timber grapple

engcon’s combi grabs are built specifically for excavators and heavy construction use. The engcon combi grab is built with the same kind of frame as its sorting garbs and is developed based on the requirements of operators that use multiple excavators.

In essence, no matter what you want to move, lift or load engcon’s new combi/timber grab TGHD (Timber Grab Heavy Duty) is excellent. It benefits from hav-ing been designed in collaboration with several excavator operators.

Thanks to engcon’s focus on innovation and development, Q-Safe™ – one of the world’s safest quick couplers for excavators – is taking the next step.

engcon is launching the new Q-Safe™ Detachable (QSD), which means its tiltrotators can now be ordered with two sturdy hooks at the front of the quick coupler and space for extra hydraulics. This makes room for detachable hydraulic tools, such as engcon’s new detachable – and also retrofittable – Grab Detachable (GRD) grapple cassette.

Maximum safetyNot only are we giving operators more options, we are also improving safety. The two heavy duty hooks provide increased safety as they continue to hold the grapple cassette in place, even if the locking function, against all odds, should break.

The grapple is angled 15 degrees to the rotator, which gives a longer pickup reach.

The GRD comes in two versions, GRD10 that fits quick coupler sizes QS45 and QS50, and the GRD20 for quick couplers with a QS60 size.

Sweeper – Sweeper Detachable (SWD) Just like the GRD grapple cassette, the SWD sweeper can be retrofitted on the Q-Safe™ D quick coupler by fastening the single hook on the coupler’s two suspension hooks and then locking the sweeper and connecting the hydraulics with a single hand maneuver – quick and easy.

The SWD is powered by a heavy duty hydraulic motor and raised or lowered by a hydraulic cylinder.

The SWD has an extremely flexible design and can be adapted widthwise to precisely fit the job at hand. For example, in its smallest model, the SWD can be adapted for cable sweeping to facilitate the excavation of existing cables or pipes and help prevent damage to cables and pipelines when digging by sweeping away the last remaining cover.

And thanks to our new sweeper, the need for manual labor is reduced, something which contributes to a safer workplace. Safety is everything to us at engcon.

If you choose the widest SWD and use it with your tiltrotator, you can also sweep gravel or dirt into your own bucket, which makes the job of clearing away material from areas easier.

Enjoy your work with maximum ergonomics and functionality

MIG2 was designed in collaboration with contractors and a company specializing in industrial design. The joystick can be fitted with three rollers and seven buttons, providing twice that with two joysticks. The operator is therefore able to work at maximum efficiency while also sparing the body strenuous movements and stressful working positions.

The joystick has an integrated hand support for the wrist to rest on without affecting the excavator movements. The hand rest is flexible and can be adjusted to suit different hand sizes.

MIG2 also provides the operator with new methods of operation. The joystick rollers are designed for the thumb, index and middle fingers – something that's unique to engcon.

This allows operators to use all six rollers simultaneously if necessary.
