Product Overview
Innovation with IntegrityGC/LC/MS-Systems
rapifleX™MALDI Tissuetyper™
For Mass Spectrometry Imaging
The rapifleX MALDI Tissuetyper solution is a powerful Mass Spectrometry Imaging (MSI) tool based on MALDI Time-of-Flight Technology. rapifleX is the first MS system, which is specifically designed according to the particular requirements of tissue typing with regard to speed, robustness and pixel definition.
Tissue sections that were analyzed in the Tissue-typer can still be histologically stained afterwards. The MALDI Imaging dataset can be overlaid with a microscopic image for detailed annotation.
rapifleX MALDI Tissuetyper is up to 20x faster than any other MS-imaging solution and therefore ideal for high-throughput clinical research studies in anatomical pathology or biomarker research.
Up to 50 true square pixels / second for faster and better images Bruker’s new scanning 10 kHz smart-
beam™ - 3D laser technology provides highest throughput and better pixel-to-pixel reproducibility The 5 µm laser focus allows for square
imaging pixel with almost complete tissue coverage and no pixel-to-pixel interference rapifleX includes a novel self-aligning MALDI
ion source for maximum uptime

MALDI Biotyper®
The MALDI Biotyper (MBT) is the market-leading system for microbial identification based on proteomic fingerprinting by high-throughput MALDI-TOF mass spectro-metry, where unique species-specific patterns are automatically compared with reference spectra in the MALDI Biotyper library.
In many laboratories, the MALDI Biotyper has, in recent years, replaced classical biochemical testing for bacterial identification as a result of the system’s accuracy, speed, extensive species coverage, ease of use and cost effec-tiveness. Classical biochemical techniques, detecting different metabolic properties of microorganisms, can take many hours or even days to process, and they often lack sufficient specificity.
Applications for the various MALDI Biotyper solutions include clinical routine microbial identification, environmental and pharmaceu-tical analysis, taxonomical research, food and consumer product safety and quality control,
as well as marine microbiology. With more than 1,800 customer systems installed, the MBT platform has become the accepted lab-oratory-standard for next-generation microbial identification and further emerging high-value functional assays.
The products of the MALDI Biotyper family are available in a research-use-only (RUO) version, as the U.S. FDA-cleared MALDI Biotyper CA System, or in an IVD-CE version meeting the requirements of EU directive EC/98/79. The MALDI Biotyper also has medical device registrations in numerous other countries.
The application range of this unique system is now further expanded by the new MBT STAR (Selective Testing of Antibiotic Resistance) product line enabling high-value antimicrobial resistance tests (RUO) in translational research.
Changing Microbiology
MALDI Biotyper
MALDI Biotyper ® smart
MALDI Biotyper (MBT) is Bruker’s pioneering solution for rapid and accurate identification of microorganisms using mass spectrometry.
As the market-leading solution for mass spectrometry based microbial identification, the MALDI Biotyper is used in clinical microbiology, environmental and pharma-ceutical analysis, taxonomical research, food and consumer product processing and quality control, and veterinary microbiology.
The speed, convenience, and cost-efficiency of the MALDI Biotyper system means that some laboratories are tasked with producing ever increasing numbers of microbial identifications.
Novel workflows – such as rapid microbial identification from positive blood cultures using Bruker‘s MALDI Sepsityper® Kit or Selective Testing of Antibiotic Resistance (MBT STAR-BL) – are further expanding the MALDI Biotyper’s range of applications.
First microbiology mass spectrometry system with smartbeam™ lifetime* laser technology
Thanks to Bruker’s smartbeam solid-state laser technology, the MALDI Biotyper smart is equipped to meet the challenges of even higher throughput and even faster turnaround times, both now and in the future.
The patented smartbeam laser combines the longer (at least one order of magnitude) laser lifetime of solid-state lasers with the unmatched MALDI performance of nitrogen lasers. Rapid sampling is provided by the smartbeam laser’s repetition rates of up to 200 Hz, more than 3 times faster than conventional nitrogen lasers used for microbial identification.
*lifetime: 500 million laser shots or seven years – whichever comes first.
Systems for Optimal MALDI Sample Preparation
Traceability, Quality and Confidence in a Standardized and Automated Workflow
For microbial MALDI target preparation
MALDI Biotyper Galaxy®
The MALDI Biotyper Galaxy automated MALDI target preparation system frees laboratory personnel from routine work while ensuring the highest preparation quality in a paperless workflow.
Full traceability is given by seamless inte-gration with the MALDI Biotyper system. On-board barcode reading ensures that MALDI target plates are matched to their corresponding projects so that every sample is correctly prepared.
Latest spotting technology guarantees that each sample spot is coated with the identical volume of MALDI matrix. Quality control of the entire preparation process using integrated optoelectronic sensor technology ensures that each sample spot is optimally prepared for subsequent MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry analysis.
ImagePrep™
"Push-button" matrix application
Comprehensive and reliable tissue sample preparation for MALDI Imaging
The ImagePrep is a matrix desposition device for MALDI Imaging in biomarker discovery, drug imaging and pathology research. The device provides highly reproducible sample preparations for MALDI Imaging in a fully automated, push-button process.
In the ImagePrep station, a matrix aerosol is created by vibrational vaporization under controlled conditions that is gently deposited onto tissue sections.
An optical sensor monitors the light scattered from matrix crystals to control all relevant preparation parameters in real-time.
Bruker‘s TOF and quadrupole TOF mass spectrometers feature some of the very latest developments in TOF technology to provide maximum confidence for accurate mass molecular formula determination.
Capable of delivering hyper-accurate results, Bruker‘s TOF platforms combine numerous hardware innovations with unique software packages that deliver industry leading sensi-tivity, five orders of magnitude dynamic range, sub-ppm mass accuracy and up to 80,000 resolution with no compromise in sensitivity for the analysis of small molecules and many types of biomolecules.
