Displays - Components

Data International Co. Ltd (Data Vision) offer a superb range of

super high brightness sunlight readable TFT LCD using the latest high

brightness LED backlights giving these LCDs superior performance in

direct sunlight and all high ambient light viewing applications.

The current range starts at a 3.5” QVGA panel with an impressive

brightness of 800nits which is followed by a 4.3” WQVGA 1000nit

panel, the latest 5.0” WVGA size with a 500nit backlight further

enhances the sizes available in ther popular 16:9 aspect ratio

format. The key 5.7” (4;3) panel offers both QVGA and VGA

resolutions with 1200nit and 900nit brightness options. Another key

size is the 7.0” (16:9) WVGA size, this 1000nit panel is available with

either TTL or an LVDS interfaces, an 8.0” SVGA (4:3), 1300nit panel

again with either TTL or LVDS interface is also available with a 10.4”

SVGA 1500nit brightness panel currently completeing the range.

Further enhancements to this excellent TFT LCD range are their “SR

4-Wire Resistive Touch” which gives excellent performance for both

colour saturation and contrast in high ambient light applications

plus the addition of projected capacitive touch technology soon to

be available on all panels Data Vision prove they are on the

forefront of colour display technology.

A comprehensive range of alphanumeric and graphic LCD’s in

both STN and FSTN technologies, incorporating COB, TAB & COG

modules. Character displays from 8 x 2 line format through to 40 x 4

lines. Large character models available in most formats with LED

(inc. white) backlighting options. Graphic displays from 96x64 dots

through to 320x240 dots QVGA covering all the popular and some

not so popular resolutions. Other features include on-board graphic

LCD controllers, LED backlighting options plus wide temperature

operation versions available at no extra cost.

Powertip’s TFT LCD range starts at a 1.44” QQVGA (128x128)

resolution panel and covers all the key industrial sizes up to 12.1”

XGA (1024x768) including the mobile phone size displays 2.4” and

2.8”. These industry standard products allow you to design with

confidence in the knowledge that the supply is guaranteed for

sometime. The current range all come with white LED backlighting

with all but the 8.0”, 10.1” and 12.1” sizes having a 4-wire resistive

touch option, the 3.5”, 4.3”, 5.7” and the 7.0” sizes can also be

supplied with the latest Projected Capacitive Touch.

Direct Sunlight Viewing options are also available by combining an

enhanced LED backlight and a transflective type polariser Powertip

are also able to offer the 3.5”, 4.3”, 5.7” and 7.0” panels capable of

performing extremely well in direct sunlight whilst keeping the

power consumption for the backlight to a minimum. An

embedded board using an ARM RISC processor featuring on-board

RAM and flash ROM with USB and RS232 interfaces is also now

available, supporting the 3.5”, 4.3” and 7.0” panel sizes including

touch versions.

Displays - Components

An excellent range of monochrome character and graphic LCD.

Character modules from 7x2 lines through to 40x4 a line encompassing all

the usual formats in between. The range also includes SPI, I²C and RS232

interface options all with the industry standard footprint. The extensive

graphics LCD range incorporates the latest in COB, TAB and COG

technologies with LED (inc. white and blue) as standard on all models.

Other features include on-board graphic LCD controllers, wide operating

temperature and single 5v or 3V supply options. A full custom and semi-

custom design service is also offered.

Bolymin also offer a small range of PMOLED displays in both monochrome

and full colour. Sizes start at a compact 1” diagonal, 96x64 dot resolution

through to a 3.12” diagonal, 256x64 dot resolution.

Bolymin’s small range TFT LCD video modules are ideal for a host of video

surveillance/door entry system applications. The colour TFT LCD is paired

with a compact video (CVBS + VGA for 4.3” and 7.0” sizes) driver board,

OSD demo board plus mounting bracket and full cabling. Currently there

are six sizes available 2.5”, 3.5”, 4.0” with 4.3” and a 7.0” wide screen

formats and a 10.4” (4:3). All the modules have white LED backlighting

and are powered by a single 12VDC input.

Bolymin Embedded display systems feature a high performance; low

power 8, 16 & 32 bit microprocessors and are available from a simple 20

character x 2 line device through to a 640x480 5.7” VGA TFT LCD module.

All models have a 64~512kb in-system programmable flash, 4~16KB SRAM

and 64KB external I²C CMOS EEPROM. Modules include at least one RS232

port with the second port being switchable between RS232, RS422, USB

and RS485. A touch option is available on the graphics versions, all

modules are driven by single DC voltage from between 2.7V~5.5V. A

comprehensive set of development tools and application notes for self-

programming are supplied.

Electronic Paper Displays (EPD or E-Paper) are based on a new method of

converting an electrical signal into a viewable image. Unlike LCD, which

work by modifying the polarization of light so that it is passed or

extinguished by a polarizer, an EPD contains electrically charged pigment

particles that reflect and absorb light. The particles act in the same way

as ink on paper, or paint on a wall, resulting in a bright, high contrast

reflective image that is clearly legible from almost any viewing angle.

However unlike printed-paper the particles can be re-arranged at will by

applying an electric field to create a new image. When the electric field

is removed, the particles remain in position, leaving behind a stable

image that is readable for days, weeks or months.

Displays - Components

A small but growing range of monochrome character and

graphic OLEDs. Character display formats are 16 x 2, 20 x 2 and

20 x 4 and are available in white, yellow, green, blue and red

colours. These OLEDs are single 5V devices (optional 3V) and

have parallel (6800/8080), I²C or SPI interface options. The

graphics range starts at a 128 x 64 resolution panel, approx.

2.42” diagonal with a 2.8” diagonal, 256 x 64 resolution panel

currently being the largest, further panels are under

development. OLED technology offers superb features and

optical characteristics.

VATN Character LCD Modules

New from our partner Optima comes one of the latest

developments in LCD technology, “VATN” (Vertically Aligned

Twisted Nematic). Whilst some will be familiar with this

technology as its usage in custom designed icon type displays is

not new, however the introduction of standard character LCD

using this technology is. As with standard negative LCD the

character is illuminated by an LED backlight, however standard

TN or STN LCD suffered with backlight bleed resulting in lower

contrast displays, VATN now eliminates that backlight bleed,

with its true black background a superb high contrast of 150:1 is

achieved. VATN technology also has a wide operating

temperature of -30~+80°C as standard and has a viewing angle

of 90° making them ideal for a host of applications requiring

good performance in rugged and hostile environments. 16x2

and 20x2 character formats are currently available with more

formats becoming available throughout 2015.

The latest innovation in colour TFT LCD, transparent displays

allow clear vision through the LCD. Current sizes available are

11.6”(1366x768), 14.0”(1366x768), 17.3”(1600x900),

21.5”(1920x1080), 31.5”(1366x768) and 39.0”(1920x1020)

diagonal. Each TFT glass panel is built into a sturdy metal

mounting frame, making integration into your application simple

and easy. As backlighting is not provided customers can use

whatever method of illumination they require depending on

their application and space etc.. Each panel is supplied with its

own compact driver board providing PC-RGB, DVI and HDMI

inputs with both board and panel powered by a single 12VDC

supply. Current applications include digital signage, vending

machines, light boxes and bottle coolers.

Monitors – Panel Mount/Open-Frame

A superior range of TFT LCD monitors available in three basic

formats, “kit Solution” (TFT LCD, Driver Board, cabling), “Closed

Frame” (TFT LCD, driver board, cabling, front & rear metalwork)

and “Open Frame” (TFT LCD, driver board, cabling, rear

metalwork only). All are designed to be easily integrated into

your unique system enclosure and can be supplied with various

touch technologies depending on your environment and

budget.

The standard monitor range starts at the 5.7” VGA, 4:3 size and

goes through to an impressive 55.0”, Full HD, 16:9. All monitors

have excellent wide viewing angles typically in the region of 160°

left to right and 140° top to bottom, however there are some

sizes that offer a superior 178° for both horizontal and vertical

axis. High contrast ratios of 500:1 through to 5000:1 ensure that

an excellent optical performance is offered across the range.

Multiple inputs of Analogue RGB, DVI, Composite, S-Video and

HDMI make the monitors suitable for applications in the gaming,

industrial, retail and medical markets. For touch versions we can

offer Resistive (both 4 & 5 wire), Surface Capacitive, Projected

Capacitive, SAW (Surface Acoustic Wave) and Infrared. With

these different technologies we are sure that we have a product

that can cope with any environment.

Another option for outdoor or high ambient light projects is the

Super High Brightness, wide viewing angle range. Sizes start at

10.4” (VGA, 4:3, 1200 nit) and go up to a 32.0” (Full HD, 16:9,

1500nit) size with probably all the other key sizes in between also

available. This range can also be supplied with a wide operating

temperature of -30~70°C.

The latest Bar or Stretch monitors are also now available with sizes

starting at 12.3” (15.0”,1/3), 1024x256 resolution through to a

48.45” (55.0”,1/3) 1920x360 resolution. Features include wide

viewing angles (178°/178°) and high contrast (3500:1). As per the

other monitor ranges these can be supplied as a kit of parts or

open/closed frame options.

Thermal Printing – Heads

Mitani’s Thick film thermal printheads are available in “Side-

face”, “Bevel Edge” and “Normal” technologies. Mitani’s range

is regarded as the world’s largest in thick film technology with

print widths starting at 25mm (1.0”) and going through to 216mm

(8.0”) with various resolutions between 3 dots/mm and 8

dots/mm. This range of printheads is designed to print on a host

of different media, from self-adhesive labels on food packaging

to the packaging itself as well as plastic and metal cards. Thick

film technology printheads have an excellent record working in

environments where a dusty and a high concentrate of air

pollutants can seriously reduce print quality and ultimately print

head life.

Thermal Printing – Mechs, Panel, Mobile

A comprehensive range of 2” and 3” thermal printers from the world-

renowned Axiohm company. Axiohm are recognized as one of the

leading innovators in the field of thermal printing, answering the

needs of today’s designers and integrators.

From simple mechanisms with a USB or RS232 driver boards to rugged

kiosk printers incorporating paper management and integrated

guillotine. Many versions are capable of performing in harsh

environments where temperatures can be down at -25°C or as high

as +70°C with a high level of humidity (85%). Large paper roll up to

200mm diameter and thick paper options up to 185µm ensure that

Axiohm can provide a printing solution whatever your application,

whether it be receipt or ticket printing. Super fast print speeds of up

to 250mm/sec covers the current range of applications requiring a

fast delivery of a receipt or ticket.

Completing the range is a small line of desktop/boxed printers, for

POS receipt printing and mobile (bluetooth) printing solutions,

including a 2” automotive option with “e” marking for taxi receipt

type applications.

Windows and Linux drivers are available for all printers allowing for

easy integration, demonstration or test.

A comprehensive range of ultra compact thermal printers, from

simple mechanisms to portable stand-alone and panel mount

versions. This exceptional product range represents an effective

printing solution for present and future needs, which has enabled our

printers to be used in a wide range of industries and applications.

Across the complete range we can offer 1”, 2”, 3” and 4” direct

thermal print widths. A serial interface is available on all complete

printers (mechs excluded) with the mobile printers also offering a

wireless interface, IrDA, Bluetooth or WLAN. All printers offer a high

resolution of 203dpi or 8dots/mm, hi-speed typically 50~80mm/sec,

with some in the panel mount range also offering a 200mm/sec

speed. The complete range of mobile printers are all ANDROID smart

phone operating system ready plus Woosim’s rugged (IP54 certified)

“WSP-i” range and the semi-rugged (IP45) “WSP-r” are also Apple iOS

operating system ready. Several printers in the mobile range also

incorporate an integrated magnetic card and smartcard reader.

Other features common to all is their clamshell design for ease of

paper loading, graphics and barcode quality printing and an overall

aesthetically pleasing, compact design. All printers are CE, UL, FCC

approved (if applicable).

Touch - Components

DMC Co. Ltd. of Japan produce an extensive range of 4-Wire

Resistive, 5-Wire resistive, Surface Capacitive touch and project

based Projective Capacitive touch overlays suitable for a host of

applications and environments.

The 4-Wire Resistive sensors offer a transmissivity of >80% and are

available from 3.8” to 21.3” diagonal and cover all the popular

LCD panel sizes in between. Sensors will operate from –20 to

+70°C and have a life expectancy of >10 million touches on a

single point. All standard parts have a touch resolution of

1024x1024 and a linearity of <2%.

The 5-Wire Resistive product offers better ruggedness over the 4-

Wire and will in fact continue to operate even with the front film

damaged. Sizes from 10.4” through to 19.0” and again cover all

the popular LCD panel sizes in between. Transmissivity is >80%

and the resolution is 1024x1024. The life expectancy over the

sensor is >35million touches on a single point.

Pure glass Standard Surface Capacitive sensors with >83% light

transmission offer excellent rugged properties and have a life

expectancy of over 50 Million touches (single point). They are

the choice for a host of applications where the users will be un-

supervised public. Flat display sizes from 15.0”through to 20.1”

(wide) diagonal with a resolution of 2048 x 2048, sensors are

available with either an RS-232 and USB controller.

Pure glass Clear Type Surface Capacitive sensors are based on

the same technology as Standard Capacitive however they are

a lighter construction and offer a light transmission of 89%. Sizes

from 5.7” through to 19.0”.

Projected Capacitive Touch with >90% transmissivity is fast

becoming the touch technology choice for a host of rugged

and outdoor applications. With its –20~+70°C operating temp

plus superb water and dirt resistant properties PCAP will soon be

the de-facto technology for all touch applications requiring

excellent performance in hostile environments. Sizes from 5.7”

through to 22.0” covering all the popular LCD sizes.

The ULTRA Touch from ADMETRO is based on the 4-Wire and 5-

Wire resistive touch technologies, however the normal polyester

film has been replaced with a flexible glass/polymer laminate

resulting in an extremely rugged sensor suitable for a host of

hostile environments. Sensors are very tolerant to extreme cold,

dirt and liquid. The rear glass substrate can be supplied in several

different thicknesses depending on the level of protection you

would like to afford your display. Sensors can also be supplied

with both front and rear waterproof gaskets to aid integration. A

separate USB or RS232 touch controller and Windows and Linux

software drivers can also be supplied. Sizes from 5.7” to 20.1” plus

a full custom design option is also possible.

Touch - Components

Keetouch’s Pure glass Surface Acoustic Wave Touch sensors

have a light transmissivity of >90% and are available for flas

displays from 8.4” to 47.0” diagonal and CRTs from 15.0” to 19.0”.

6mm tempered glass sensors can be supplied for rugged

applications which could be subject to vandalism and cold

temperatures, with a surface hardness of 7 mohs the sensors are

difficult to scratch or cut with sharp instruments. Sensors can be

supplied with either a serial RS232 or USB interface with drivers

available for Windows and Linux. SAW touch is one of the

preferred touch technologies for gaming machines and public

information kiosks.

For true hostile environments infrared touch has stood the test of

time, with excellent sealability, light transmission (92~100%),

extremely wide operating temperatures (-30°C ~ +80°C) and

excellent anti-vandal properties. IR touch is the choice for

outdoor kiosks and other un-manned applications. With a touch

resolution of 16,384 x 16,384 and standard sensor sizes from 10.4”

to 103” most applications can be accommodated, however

custom solutions are also welcome. 32 point multi-touch function

is also now available and as with all IR touch sensors there is no

minimum touch activation force and no wear out mechanism.

Electro-Luminescent Signs

EL technology has been around for many years and is mostly

known as a backlighting medium for the previous generation of

LCD modules. However applications for this extremely versatile

technology have become very diverse, from in-door and out-

door advertising signage to safety and fashion clothing.

The flexible material is only 0.35mm thick and has a maximum

sheet size of 1200mm x 2200mm. It can be used in both in-door

and out-door environments (UV protected option for outdoor

applications) as the material itself is completely waterproof and

has a wide operating temperature of -30°C ~ 70°C. Today’s

material has a brightness of between 150cd/m² ~ 230cd/m² and

a ½ life in excess of 20khrs. EL technology offers superior

performance in poor visibility conditions i.e. rain, fog or smoke,

making this technology ideal for safety signage and hi-vis

clothing etc.

The material can be made to any shape and can be secured

to both flat and curved surfaces, it can be supplied in many

colours with white and turquoise being the most popular. It is

extremely lightweight (A4 size weighs 130g) and will not break if

dropped or handled roughly. EL is an energy efficient, cold light

source producing no detectable heat. The maximum power

consumption is 0.25mA per cm².
