IntroductionThis publications catalog is designed to assist AVID teachers, administrators, and site teams in providing the most current materials for students and staff involved in the program. Materials and services included are intended for middle schools and high schools that wish to use AVID methodologies schoolwide.

Contents Both the AVID Middle Level and High School Libraries are designed so that teachers and students are provided with guides that focus on student work, as well as with additional materials assisting in program implementation and site team development. In addition, student activity sheets are provided so that the student texts may serve as class sets in the AVID elective class. At the high school level, six sets are provided, while at the middle level, five sets are provided. Both middle and high school AVID materials feature the new Schoolwide Set, including a guide for administrators, counselors, and content area guides in English, mathematics, science, history/social science, and English Language Development. These materials provide additional focus on writing, inquiry, collaboration, and critical reading in the content areas.

OrderingItem numbers for publications and products are listed in this catalog and on the corresponding order forms, which are enclosed in the catalog. Some items are available only with a complete library purchase, cannot be ordered separately and have no reordering number. When ordering, please indicate exact quantities, item numbers, and additional necessary information. Please retain a photocopy of the order form for your records. If an order is needed immediately, please call (858) 380-4800 and ask for the business office to request UPS Second Day service; charges will be added accordingly. Unless otherwise requested, all shipments will be sent by UPS or FedEx ground service. A physical street address must be included with your order. Shipping and handling charges vary from 9% to 12%. For exact rates, please see the enclosed order forms. Sites may need to order additional materials for larger class sizes. Please allow five to seven working days for shipment of curriculum purchases. Be sure to include the name of the school and contact person on the order form and subsequent purchase order.

Membership/Who May OrderAVID implementation materials and material for the AVID elective class may be ordered only by member schools. In California, because of state support, all AVID sites are members. Outside of California, membership is attained via a district contract. Associate member sites may order only content guides provided in the schoolwide materials.

LicensingThe AVID Middle Level and High School Libraries include a CD for reproduction of trademarked and copyrighted student activity sheets. These CDs allow the AVID teacher/coordinator to make high quality reproductions as needed for their AVID students.

The AVID Middle Level Library 1500RThe AVID Middle School Library is designed to support AVID teachers in assisting students with the writing process, reading skills, motivation, organization, and preparation for success in high school and college. Program implementation guidelines are provided in an easy-to-follow format. Schoolwide materials allow for AVID strategies to be used throughout the school via content area teachers. Middle schools implementing AVID for the !rst time are required to purchase the sets listed below. Schools with existing programs may also wish to purchase the new materials. The entire collection of curriculum sets is priced at $4,000.

AVID Family Workshops Grades 6-12 904Parent/family involvement is a key to a successful AVID program. This teacher’s guide provides outlines and support materials which can be used to hold workshops for parents/families and students. The content for these workshops includes an introduction to AVID, writing as a tool for learning and strategies for time-management, goal-setting and planning for success in school.

College & Careers Teacher Guide 3AThe AVID Center developed curriculum and training to improve students’ understanding of the path to college. College & Careers includes a sequential approach to college-prep study skills, the admissions process, choosing a major, and the financial aid process. These materials are designed for high schools and middle schools, college and career centers, and other settings. The College & Careers teacher guide includes approaches to note taking, college admission and placement exams, a master education plan, and preparation for the entrance exams.

Schoolwide Set 1100R

The AVID Center provides curriculum and training in the content areas, with a particular focus on AVID methodologies (writing, inquiry, collaboration and reading) in English, mathematics, history/social science, English Language Learners, world languages and science. Professional development opportunities are offered in conjunction with AVID Summer Institutes and at district or regional workshops. Each component of the Schoolwide Library contains one teacher guide, one student guide and one student guide CD from the Write Path materials. Administrator Guide 5AThis guide outlines the contributions and support that administrators provide to the AVID program. Special emphasis is placed on support for the AVID teacher, data collection and evaluation, highlighting the program’s success, and connecting AVID to other schoolwide reform efforts.

World Languages Supplement: Teacher’s Guide, Middle Level 5FThis guide is designed to assist the world languages teacher in accelerating all students, especially AVID students, in the acquisition of a second language. It contains units for language classes based on methodologies used in AVID and provides activities to enhance cultural awareness and the language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

The AVID High School Library 21RThe AVID High School Library is designed to improve the academic performance of AVID students and to support the work of AVID teachers and their site teams. The library sets are instrumental in developing a program that helps students prepare for college as well as making the transition from high school to college. In addition, they help expand the resources available to students and parents making college an attainable goal for all AVID students. High schools implementing AVID for the !rst time are required to purchase the entire library. Schools with existing programs may also wish to purchase the new materials. The entire collection of curriculum sets is priced at $4,500.
