Prof. Rewa Prasad Dwivedi, eminent Sanskrit author and scholar, was born in

1935 in Varanasi. is contribution to Sanskrit lan!ua!e and literature isoutstandin!.

• Sitacaritam and Svatantryasambhavam

is most si!nificant works, Sitacaritam  and Svatantryasambhavam are two

e"ic "oems. #he first mahakav$a %e"ic "oem&, 'ttara Sita(charitam, com"osed

from 195) to 19)*, is based on the Rama$ana and deals with the later life of

Sita, but is recast to contem"orar$ times and deals with +ndian "olit$ and

"atriotism. is second e"ic, Svatantr$a(sambhavam, which won the Sahit$a

kademi ward in 1991, "ortra$s the +ndian national freedom movement, from

the time of Rani -akshmi ai of /hansi to events of "ost(+nde"endence +ndia.

• Other Sanskrit works

is other Sanskrit works include Pramatah %19**, a collection of "oems on

the atomic a!e&, Sri Rewa hadra"itham %19**, verses in "raise of the river

e has written a number of stories. e has written etensivel$ on

Sahit$asastra %Poetics& and "roduced such !reat works as 4av$alankarakarika,

0at$anusasanam, and Sahit$asarirakam. Dwivedi has edited man$ works, of

which #he om"lete works of 4alidasa is his !reatest contribution to Sanskrit

literature. e has also "resented research "a"ers in various seminars on Sanskrit

and 6riental studies.
