Prof.Dr. Gursel Turgut received his M.D. degree from Istanbul University, School of Medicine in 1992. Between 1992 and 1994, he worked as the Galatasaray Sports Club football team physician. After his position as an intern at University of Erciyes sport medicine programme, he transferred to American Hospital as a resident in emergency medicine.

He began his specialization in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 1994 at the Plastic and Reconstructive Clinic in Sisli Pediatric Hospital.

He undertook assistantships at Koln-Germany St. Agatha Krankenhaus Plastische Chirurgie Hospital in 1998, and at Hamburg the Berufgenossenchaftilches Unfalkrankenhaus Handchirurgie in 1999. In 2003, he performed free flap, emergency facial trauma and orthognathic (jaw and teeth) surgeries in Belgium St. John's Hospital’s Division of Maxillofacial Surgery. In 2004, Dr. Turgut worked at Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery - NYU School of Medicine, the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Mount Sinai Health System.

Dr. Turgut is noted for his work on custom-made 3D implants, epithesis and prosthesis applications. He is also specialized at using micro-surgical techniques on ear and nose and breasts. Dr. Turgut has developed and applies his own techniques for breast reduction and aesthetic nose surgeries. Dr. Turgut has worked with diabetic patients and performed the first stem cell application on a diabetic foot ulcer in collaboration with Pakize Tarzi Clinic and Genkord Stem Cell and Blood Bank ın Turkey.

Currently, Dr Turgut is affiliated with Liv Hospital, Istanbul, and performs his surgeries in its facilities. In addition, Dr. Turgut teaches at University of Beykent, Division of Oral and Dental Health under associate professorship appointment.
