HOW TO USE THIS PLAN Using the Professional Development Needs Survey, ask each member of the service team to spend time answering the questions in the survey. When they have completed the questions, the service manager may arrange to meet with the team member individually to look over their survey and complete step two.

Using the Individual Professional Learning Plan the service manager and team member can identify and prioritise professional learning for the year ahead. This plan could include taking part in registered training, tertiary education, professional learning events or subscription to specific resources. For planning and budgeting purposes, this section can also provide an indication of ‘back fill’ hours needed where staff will be away from the service.

Following these individual meetings, the whole team or service leadership team can use the Long Term Service Plan 2015-2017 to identify the common areas of professional learning need across the service or organisation. This final part of the resource will allow teams and leaders to strategically prioritise their professional learning goals and budget priorities identifying Whole Service Professional Learning Goals. These common areas and goals can be used to inform the service Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
