The life of a professional pilot is full of exhilarating moments, but just like an aircraft on a cross-country trip, you can’t arrive at one point without starting from another. To achieve a successful career as a pilot, it is essential to obtain a bachelor’s degree, possess pilot ratings and build flight time.

K-State Salina has partnered with Air Associates of Kansas and Johnson County Community College, both located in the heart of Johnson County, Kansas, to provide you the bachelor’s degree and training you need to reach your aviation goals. This degree has been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration for a reduction in the flight time required for your ATP certificate, thus expediting the launch of your aviation career.

The degree offering consists of courses taken from Kansas State University Salina, Johnson County Community College and Air Associates. This program partnership allows a student to remain in the Kansas City metropolitan area while completing a K-State Salina Bachelor of Aeronautical Technology – professional pilot degree.

Flight training is offered through Air Associates, core degree courses are delivered online by Kansas State University Salina, and general education credits are given by Johnson County Community College and are either offered online or in person.

Due to the unique offering of this degree, students will need to receive college credit for MATH 100: College Algebra and obtain their private pilot rating prior to starting this program.

Admission CriteriaIf you will graduate in 2015 (or later), you must complete the pre-college curriculum with at least a 2.0 GPA (2.5 for non-residents) AND achieve one of the following to be considered for qualified admissions:

• A 21 or higher composite score on the ACT assessment

• A 980 or higher on the SAT I, CR + M

• Rank in the top third of your graduating class

• If applicable, achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher on all college credit taken in high school

Additionally, as a Cessna Pilot Center, we are supported by Cessna, the world’s largest manufacturer of flight training aircraft. More people have trained in Cessna aircraft than any other.

Air Associates of KansasAir Associates of Kansas is the premiere flight school in the Kansas City area. We’re a Part 141 school, meaning we operate under the highest standards of flight training as set by the FAA. Air Associates also employs pilots for a variety of instruction, Part 91 and Part 135 operations. Training at Air Associates and earning your degree through K-State Salina will give you an opportunity to begin your career in aviation even before you receive your professional pilot degree.

Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas has more than 44,000 students enrolled in credit and continuing education classes each year. JCCC offers a full range of undergraduate credit courses that form the first two years of most college curricula. The college has more than 100 transfer agreements with area colleges and universities that ensure admittance to specific programs such as business, engineering and education. JCCC awards four degrees: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science and Associate of General Studies.

Nationally and internationally known performing and visual artists appear in the college’s Performing Arts Series and the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art.

The college has a full-time faculty and staff of about 900. Another 1,200 people work part-time. Most faculty members have master’s degrees, and many have or are earning doctorates.

The campus, centrally located in the county on 245 acres, opened in 1972. There are 21 major buildings on campus with the most recent being the Hospitality and Culinary Academy, which opened in fall 2013.

JCCC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association. JCCC is a board member of the League for Innovation in the Community College.

JCCC received high marks from Johnson County residents surveyed through a community scan sponsored by the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce Foundation in 2012. Ninety-three percent of both voters and businesses said they had a favorable impression of JCCC; 68 percent of voters said strongly favorable.
