It looks like 2016 is off to a good start. There is a part of me that is still shaking my head
wondering where January went. We are preparing for big and new changes for this year and while some
of that may make us a bit uneasy, let’s all work to rest in the assurance that God is in control all the time.
As a staff here at church, we started some team building workshops to help strengthen us as a team. This
will help us not only to be preparing for our new leadership in July but strengthen us for the months
ahead as well. Ministry can’t stop because we are nervous about change. Let’s work together to focus
on God’s plan for our church during this season of change.
I am excited to have the opportunity to attend a worship seminar during the first week of
February. I hope that we will be able to gather lots of new and fresh ideas. We (Pastor Monge, Juli,
Greyson, and myself) are attending as a staff and will be out of the office Thursday and Friday, February
4th and 5th.
Our Wednesday Night suppers will resume on February 10th. Watch your bulletin for the
scheduled menu. We will have our Ash Wednesday Service that evening at 6:30. Please join us to begin
the season of Lent. I am diligently working on offerings for small groups. These can but do not have to
be on Wednesday Nights. If you have any ideas or are willing to facilitate or even co-facilitate a group,
please let me know. We are working on finding opportunities to offer growth. The Pastor will be
offering a Bible study about forgiveness on Wednesday mornings and evenings. We are planning to
continue our Wednesday night dinners through April with the exception of a few weeks. We are trying
to be good stewards of our resources including time of volunteers and money for materials. Please try to
be aware of this and let us know if you are planning to attend the meal each week. This helps us know
how much food to prepare.
We will be having a family game time on Sunday, February 28th from 3:00 - 6:30. We are doing
this in conjunction with a chili cook-off. So I need people willing to make a pot of their favorite chili for
us to try. We will do penny votes with all proceeds going to Children’s Missions. So, let me know if
you plan to attend and play games or would like to enter your chili into the contest. This event is always
a fun one, please make time to attend.
Keep watching the bulletin and further newsletters for more fun and exciting events to come!
Blessings,
Kate

I will offer this class on Wednesday evenings, beginning on Wednesday, February 17th at 6:30 p.m.
The goal is to be completed by Holy Week but it may go over into April due to weather and unpredictable
events. I will also be offering the same class on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. If you want more
information, please contact me. I am excited and yes, apprehensive. From past experience, I know that Bible
study always surprises my “status quo” and comfort levels. It is for this reason that I am offering it here
before my life has another major life change in July. Yes, I remember – I plan and God laughs.
Whether you join in the Bible Study or not – may you have a blessed and holy Lent as you prepare to
celebrate the Resurrection at the end of March.
God bless, Pastor Monge

2016 Affirmation of Faith/Confirmation Class
We had our first overview class on Sunday, January 31st. It is not too late
to be a part of this class. Classes are open to all persons interested in
learning more about being a Christian – especially in the 21st century.
Affirmation of Faith classes are preparatory classes that are designed to
equip and strengthen all of us on our faith journey as followers of Jesus.
Students learn not only about the Christian faith through the centuries
and our own United Methodist tradition, but also learn what it means to
be a Christian and how to live out our faith, daily for the rest of our lives.

February Birthdays
Greetings from the Music Desk! The new year has begun, and with it, all music programs
are now back on track! So if you are a part of any of the music ensembles here at Fairview, WE
ARE BACK! See the bulletin and worship screens for all music program updates. Interesting in
joining an ensemble? See me or one of our members for any information.
Children's Music programs will remain on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. We have begun weekly
lessons but all are invited to join. A portion of each week's class will review elements taught
previously so that no one is left behind.
I need your help! I spend a large amount of time listening and researching new music but I
can't hear and read everything. If you have a musical suggestion for any service, feel free to
email me at [email protected]. I appreciate all comments and questions!
Mark your calendars! Ash Wednesday is February 10th and Easter is March 27th. Do not let
these important church holidays sneak up on you!

What makes your life full and rich? Is it
your involvement in church? Your job? Is it the
friends with whom you go to the movies, or the
buddies who come over to watch the football
game? Could it even be the small choices you
make every day, such as what to have for breakfast or what to watch on TV in the evening? All of these
things together are what fill our lives with joy and keep us engaged in our communities. Adults with
intellectual disabilities want a life just like yours: a life where they are part of a community, get to
experience the many joys the world has to offer, and make their own choices. That’s where Heart
Havens comes in.
Heart Havens is a Virginia Conference Advance Special mission that provides residential support
to adults with intellectual disabilities, but it’s so much more than just providing a house. Heart Havens
empowers people to discover what it is they love and then pursue it. No matter what the goal is, Heart
Havens is all about helping the people they support find a way to make their dreams a reality.
This month, we lift up Heart Havens Month, a time to both support the Heart Havens mission
with our gifts and celebrate the gifts that people with intellectual disabilities bring to the church. Gifts we
collect for Heart Havens allow them to continue providing a vibrant lifestyle for the people they support.
To learn more about Heart Havens and the Heart Havens homes around the Conference, please visit
www.hearthavens.org.
There are no special offering envelopes, but you can indicate “Heart Havens” on your monthly or
weekly offering envelope to give to this special mission during the month of February. Thank you!
