ABOUT THE MUSICIAN
Gail Archer is an international concert organist, recording artist, choral conductor and lecturer who draws attention to composer anniversaries or musical themes with her annual recital series including Max Reger, The Muse’s Voice, An American Idyll, Liszt, Bach, Mendelssohn and Messiaen. Ms. Archer was the first American woman to play the complete works of Olivier Messiaen for the centennial of the composer’s birth in 2008;Time Out New York recognized the Messiaen cycle as “Best of 2008” of classical music and opera. Her recordings include her September, 2017 CD A Russian Journey, The Muse’s Voice, Franz Liszt: A Hungarian Rhapsody, Bach: The Transcendent Genius, An American Idyll, A Mystic In the Making (Meyer Media), and The Orpheus of Amsterdam: Sweelinck and his Pupils (CALA Records).Ms. Archer’s, 2017 European tour took her to Germany, Italy, the British Isles, Russia, Ukraine and Poland. Highlights include St. Nicholas Church, Stuttgart, Germany, Church of San Domenico, Palermo, Sicily, Dunblane Cathedral, Dunblane, Scotland, The Methodist Central Hall, London, England, the Temple of the Renaissance, Bryansk, Russia, the Philharmonic Hall, Khmelnytsky, Ukraine and the Basilika Mariaska, Gdansk, Poland. She is the founder of Musforum, www.musforum.org an international network for women organists to promote and affirm their work. Ms. Archer is college organist at Vassar College, and director of the music program at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she conducts the Barnard-Columbia Chorus, and is a member of the faculty of the Harriman Institute, Columbia University. She serves as director of the artist and young organ artist recitals at historic Central Synagogue, New York City.

CARL W. BROMAN
Carl W. Broman (1904–1979) served as Organist & Choirmaster at Trinity Church for 41 years from September 1938 until June 1979 and as Chairman of the Department of Music at Mary Baldwin College from 1935 to 1976. In his 44 years of distinguished service, both to the parish and the larger community, Dr. Broman touched the lives of hundreds of men, women, boys, and girls. In 1945 he started the Men and Boys Choir at Trinity which he directed for over 25 years. He also served as Chairman of the Music Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Southwestern Virginia for many years. The first Carl Broman Concert at Trinity Church was held in May 1979 with Dr. Broman in attendance, just a few days before his death. Subsequent concerts have taken place on an annual basis, with only an occasional exception.

CONCERT & EVENSONG featuring
CARAVANSERAI, CHAMBER ENSEMBLE at Trinity on Sunday, March 11 at 5 p.m.
Caravanserai is a flexible chamber ensemble from Staunton, Virginia that brings chamber music to a variety of formal and informal settings. The group has three core members (Yi-Ping Chen – oboe, Eleanor Graham – cello, Jessica Embach Jankauskas – viola), but adds or subtracts musicians based on the diverse repertoire being performed, which spans from early Classical period to the newest compositions in print. Concert will be followed by Choral Evensong, sung by the Trinity Choir.
