Dear Colleague,

I am thrilled that you have been able to join your friends and colleagues at The Broadmoor here in Colorado Springs, Colorado, for our 124th Annual Meeting. It should provide a broad educational experience for both new and experienced medical directors and underwriting specialists, with the participation of a talented array of clinical speakers and industry presenters.

The Broadmoor is a truly remarkable venue. One of only two five-star resorts in the United States, it has held that distinction for over 50 years. It has excellent meeting facilities and we have the advantage that all our accommodations and the vast majority of our conference space will be located in the newly renovated Broadmoor West. Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, The Broadmoor boasts an incredibly friendly staff and outstanding facilities In addition, Colorado Springs is a remarkable city, with unparalleled natural beauty and a variety of interesting things to see and do in close proximity to the hotel.

This year’s social program will begin with a Sunday evening welcome reception at the Mountain View Terrace with a lovely view of the Rocky Mountains. My wife, Mary, and I hope to greet you there and welcome you to this beautiful venue.

The scientific program begins on Sunday afternoon with pre-conference workshops. The core educational portion of the meeting begins in earnest on Monday morning with a presentation on Genetic Testing and Life Insurance by Dr. Robert Green from the Department of Genetics at Harvard University School of Medicine. This will be followed by a panel discussion on the same topic. Other platform presentations will include a panel discussion on the Insurability of HIV featuring several prominent insurance medical directors, Hematologic Malignancies: Lymphoid

Diseases and Mortality Implications by Dr. Michael Tees from the Colorado Blood Cancer Institute, Trends in Hepatitis B and C by Dr. Amanda Wieland from the University of Colorado-Denver, Congenital Heart Disease Update by Dr. Joseph D. Kay from the University of Colorado-Denver and the Genetics of Lung Cancer by Dr. James R. Jett, Professor of Medicine at National Jewish Health. Breakout sessions will cover topics of more specialized interest.

The core of the triennial program is always the small group workshops. All of you have been assigned to a group that will rotate through a series of sessions over the course of the week. These workshops are case-based and cover the subject areas of most interest to insurance medical directors and other risk selection professionals. They also provide an opportunity for close interaction with the experienced physicians from the industry who make up the faculty. In addition, this format offers a tremendous opportunity to meet and learn from your fellow attendees.

Our farewell dinner will be at the Cheyenne Lodge, a spectacular venue located in the hills above The Broadmoor with magnificent views of the mountains and the flatlands below. It should provide a spectacular finish to a remarkable week.

It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy your time in Colorado Springs and that it will prove to be of outstanding career and personal benefit. It has been my great privilege and honor to serve you as the President of AAIM over this past year.

Cliff Titcomb, MD, DBIM
