Habitat for Humanity of Coachella Valley Sunday, October 238:00 am – 1:00 pm

At Habitat for Humanity of the Coachella Valley, HOPE is not a dream but a way of makingdreams become reality. At this very moment, Habitat volunteers, supporters and partner fami-lies are building, renovating and repairing houses. Their work strengthens families and culti-vates better communities, healthier children and more successful students.

Since the inception of the affiliate in Coachella Valley, Habitat for Humanity has built many houses for local area needy families in PalmDesert, Cathedral City, Coachella and Desert Hot Springs. They are working on expanding to build in Indio, La Quinta and Palm Springs.

Attendees will work on some aspect of home improvement or construc-tion, including painting, caulking, landscaping, minor repairs and exteriorclean-up. All work will be supervised by experienced volunteers. Thisproject can only accommodate 50 people.

Jim McGrane Charity Bicycle Ride Sunday, October 238:00 am – 2:00 pm

Big Wheel Tours will be organizing a 20 and 40mile time trial style bike ride in the CaliforniaDesert. Both routes will be an out and back courseon a single road with rolling terrain and the likeli-

hood of breezy weather. The route will take cyclists through the Colorado portion of the SonoranDesert and will provide sweeping vistas of the Coachella Valley and the two tallest peaks in SouthernCalifornia, Mt. San Jacinto and Mt. San Gorgonio. Big Wheel staff will roam the course and will also be stationed at keypoints along the route to provide traffic control. Big Wheel will provide bikes, helmets, waters, snacks and course mar-shalling. Note: There is a separate fee for rental of bikes and helmets.

Build-a-BikeSunday, October 232:00 – 4:00 pm

This project will be conducted on the grounds of the JW MarriottDesert Springs Resort. ELFA volunteers will work in groups to buildand customize several bicycles for local children. Each child will

receive a brand-new bicycle built by each group and a brand-new bike helmet. For mostof the children involved, ages 8-12, this will be their first bicycle! Each bicycle is inspectedbefore a child takes it home. Each team will build one or two bicycles.

The Palm Springs AerialTramway—the world’s largest rotating tram car—travels overtwo-and-a-half miles along the breathtaking cliffs of ChinoCanyon, transporting riders to the pristine wilderness ofthe Mt. San Jacinto State Park. During your approximately10-minute journey, tram cars rotate slowly, offering pictur-esque and spectacular vistas of the valley floor below. Onceyou reach the Mountain Station—elevation 8,516 feet—enjoy two restaurants, observation decks, a natural historymuseum, two documentary theaters, a gift shop and over50 miles of hiking trails.

Once atop the peak of Mt. San Jacinto, guests will findthemselves in a 13,000-acre Wilderness State Park forestsurrounded by a magnificent pine forest and views stretch-ing miles to the Salton Sea. Attendees will have the optionto walk an energetic one-mile mountain trail with a guideor explore at their own leisure.

This event includes a private luncheon in the Mountain Station. Tour not recommended for guests with a fear ofheights or enclosed spaces.

San Andreas Fault Line Jeep Eco-Tour and LunchTuesday, October 259:00 am – 3:00 pm(Bus leaves at 9:15)

This educational eco-tour focuses onthe history and legends of the late 19th century mining era and the set-tlers who came to seek their fortune in this desert wilderness.

Guests will wander, explore and take plenty of photos inthe recreated Indian Village, while a knowledgeable guidewill explain what life was really like for the early desert set-tlers. This tour also includes exploration of steep walledcanyons that have been described as some of the most tor-tured landscapes on earth, a classic desert badlands causedby the San Andreas earthquake fault.

The event will conclude with a private luncheon in a recre-ated Indian Village.

A spouse or companion attending any portion of theconvention or social function must be registered andpay the appropriate spouse/companion fee. If he or she is employed in leasing the full member attendeeregistration fee is due.
