Enhancing Learning Through Technology
Step It Up
Students have several opportunities to engage in online activities to reinforce and practice concepts and skills learned throughout the lesson.
• Fundamentals provide students with access to over 160 interactive games designed to reinforce and practice ideas related to number and computation.
• ORIGO Big Books & Tools allow students to hear mathematical language used in authentic literature. These opportunities are embedded throughout the modules to allow students to hear, speak, and model the mathematical language in a safe and supported way.
• Flare offers exciting interactive online teaching tools designed to enhance learning and facilitate discourse. Tools can easily be customized to meet a variety of needs.
Consistent opportunities to practice daily instruction are important for elementary students. Step It Up contains additional practice aligned to Stepping Stones 2.0 lessons which can be used in the classroom or for homework. Step It Up consists of 144 practice lessons per grade, 1–6, with each lesson consisting of two pages that mirror students’ daily work for support and reference.
The first page provides guided instruction for students to review a concept or skill that was taught during the lesson. The second page gives the student the opportunity to practice the concepts and skills independently to further reinforce the ideas presented in the lessons.

Step It Up! Grade 3 Lesson 6.10
This activity uses number lines to explore fractions that are greater than 1 (improper fractions) and the relationship between the numerator and denominator of these fractions.
Exploring Improper Fractions (Number Line Model)
One carrot cake needs 34 cup of fl our.
Lela wants to make 2 cakes.
She only has a 14 measuring cup.
Label the fraction below each mark on the number line.
Then draw jumps on this number line to show how Lela can use the 14 cup
to measure the fl our she needs.
Write the fraction that shows the total amount of fl our she needs.
Loop the fractions below that are greater than 1.
Compare your fraction to one whole.
What do you notice?

Student and Teacher Resources (continued)
Stepping Stones 2.0 gives the teacher hours of online professional learning when it is needed the most. MathEd provides over 70 short videos which are embedded at the start of modules to assist teachers in acquiring the content and pedagogical knowledge they need to be effective.
Fundamentals games allow collaborative discourse for practice or differentiation. These games have simple rules and serve to reinforce and practice thinking strategies.
Although interactive whiteboards are not essential for the implementation of Stepping Stones 2.0, various high-quality and flexible tools are embedded in the program and available at a click of a button. Teach math with Flare!
Rather than directing teachers to draw or write the necessary images and problems on the board, this program comes ready with projectable resources embedded where they are needed. This is yet another way Stepping Stones 2.0 saves time.
Visit origoeducation.com/origo-mathed for sample clips and a list of all videos available.
Visit origoeducation.com/fundamentals-game-boards for a short video on these games.
Visit origoeducation.com/flare for an explanation of all the interactive teaching tools available.
