Aztec Army ROTC Program

ARMY ROTC

Hispanic Association of Colleges / Universities

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Many don’t realize that the ROTC program at San Diego State incorporates not just SDSU. SDSU is just the “host” however we have several extension units and cross town universities and colleges that fall under our program. Cadets from the junior/community colleges (such as Grossmont and Palomar) are welcome to participate in our program. We have uniformed cadre at SDSU, USD and CSUSM, making up three separate companies. Our USD cadre oversee cadets from USD, UCSD and PLNU, making up our largest company in the Cadet Battalion.

Program Mission

To recruit, retain, develop, and commission future leaders of the Regular Army, Army Reserves and Army National Guard.

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Recruit: quality over quantity; although we have an annual commission mission of 29 per FY, we are looking for quality future officers (using the Scholar Athlete Leader criteria). We recruit from high schools, college campuses, at college fairs and from those through those currently drilling with Guard and Reserve units to serve as Simultaneous Membership Program cadets. Retain: One of the hardest areas to create balance. We want to train hard so that our Cadets are successful officers in the future, but we also understand that our Cadets are college students, with degree requirements to meet, clinicals, internships, bills to pay (many of our Cadets work), and other extracurricular activities to participate in. We don’t want to burn them out because they still need to graduate to commission. We strive to make the program both educational and fun & give scholarships when available. Develop: All activities focused on development of leadership skills and those skills that will make cadets great officers (including physical training, instilling Army Values, basic combat skills and tactics) Ultimately, Commission as 2LTs upon completion of degree and all Army ROTC requirements. We commission into all components (Active Duty, Army Reserves and Army National Guard)! Current Senior Class component selection status: 15 Assessed into Active Duty 16 Assessed into National Guard 2 Assessed into Army Reserves
