Program Review Goals & Objectives - Process and Mission Statement Alignment : Version by Gates, Alana on01/23/2020 02:50

What processes does your program/service area follow to create, evaluate, and update annual plan goals? The SCC Real Estate Program, staffed by professionals and specialists, envisions the delivery of real estate and appraisal courses in a 100% online instructional mode. Offered is acurriculum that leads to an AA degree and/or certificate, fulfills CA state requirements for licenses, and partial satisfaction of requirements for CA residential appraiser licensing. The Real Estate program holds several discussions with its advisory committees each year to elicit industry perspectives and recommendations for our courses and programs.Along with this information, the program considers enrollment and success and other pertinent data.In consultation with faculty and the Dean of Business and Career Education, the program leadership creates annual plan goals.Evaluation of goals varies according to the nature of the goal. For example, if a goal is to increase retention rates to match College rates, the evaluation will consist of review of the retentiondata for the program and the College.

At the time of planning for the following year, evaluation data is used to decide whether the goal has been met and should be considered completed or whether it needs to continue efforts inthat area. The action steps are reviewed to determine whether different steps need to be implemented. How is SCC’s mission statement (https://www.sccollege.edu/About/Pages/CollegeMissionStatement.aspx) reflected in your goals?REAL ESTATE MISSION STATEMENT; The mission of the Real Estate Program at Santiago Canyon College is to meet the educational needs of students who are interested in a career inreal estate, appraisal, or a real estate related career, by providing appropriate targeted programs and services.

This mission clearly aligns with the College mission of providing intellectual and personal growth and to foster student success.

What is the successful course completion rate (grades of A, B, C, Credit or Pass) for courses within the program and how does this compare to the institution-set standard for successfulcourse completion of 63%? The Institutional Effectiveness & Accreditation Dossier findings for all classes indicate that the successful course completion rate ranged from 68% for 2018-19 was 75.5%, which is higherthan the institution-set standard for successful completion. This rate is the highest rate for the five-year period and follows a four-year downward trend that ranged from 68% to 62.3%. Whydid we experience this downwtard trend? and what happened to realize the rate increase of 13.2%?These questions merit investigation, which may require or include examination of individual course performance findings. For example, for RE106 Real Estate Finance, we changed thetextbook and online instruction source. Did this have an effect on overall completions?

All goals support the EMP goals.

What is the successful course completion rate in basic skills courses (grades of A, B, C, Credit or Pass) within the program?NAWhat is the course retention rate (any grade except W) for courses within the program? The course retention rate for Real Estate for 2018-2019 was 84.6%, the highest retention rate of the five year period. The trend from 2015-2016 to the present has been steadily upward.Nonetheless, the program's retention rate is still somewhat lower than the all-College rate of 89.6%. Is this because the Real Estate program is 100% online? An examination of the all-College rate for online courses only might shed some light on this question.

Both the AS degree and the Certificate of Achievement have 12 awards for 2017-2018. We suspect that the increase over previous years is due, at least partially, to the auto-award system. In addition, faculty has been more conscientious about reminding students to check their records to see what courses are needed to complete an award. The data may also be indicating students who completed a certificate in a prior year and have continued on to complete the degree.

Program Review Data Analysis - 6 to 13 : Version by Gates, Alana on 01/23/2020 02:51NA

Are there any patterns, trends, or anomalies in the Student Demographic Data (Ethnicity, Age, Gender, Veteran Status, etc.)?Data for gender for the college consistently show a slightly higher percentage for males than females. The real estate program data, with the exception of 2026-2017, show higher rates forfemales. This is not necessarily surprising: Real Estate is one of the few industries that welcomes women of all ages and one with success for women on par with that for men.Looking at the data for age ranges, we note that real estate enrolls a higher percentage of students over 40 years of age than the college as a whole. Real estate is an occupation that manyturn to for an encore career, so the higher proportion is not surprising. We also see that this age group proportion is higher in real estate that it was for previous years. This may be areflection of the reduction in enrollments of 25-29 year-old students, but we have no information to support this. The real estate expects growth in the 18-21 years age group because we have planned additional high school outreach.Data on ethnicity for the college and the real estate program appear to be parallel, with the program, however, enrolling a slightly higher proportion of Latino students.

The trends appear to mirror our college student demographic data.

Labor market trends and needs: Review the labor market data on the California Employment Development Department (http://www.labormarketinfo.edd.ca.gov/Content.asp?pageid=1011)website for jobs related to your program.

1. What occupations are related to your program?2. What are the occupational projections for employment?3. How do these projections affect planning for your program?

1. Property, Real Estate, and Community Association Managers, Loan Officers, Real Estate Brokers, and Real Estate Sales Agents.2. Occupational demand and wage data for Los Angeles County indicate positive growth in most real estate occupations, with the exception of loan officers. The decline in demand for

loan officers may be due in part to technology improvements in loan processing. The greatest area of occupational growth is for property, real estate, and Community Associationmanagers.

3. The positive growth indicators contribute to our plans to continue to offer our courses and awards. These data also tell us that our plan to develop and offer an award in propertymanagement is well founded, as is our plan to develop in the area of community association management. We shall also continue to monitor LMI data for Orange County and theregion to identify other occupational areas that we might need to support.

Program Review Summary Report - What is and is not working : Version by Gates, Alana on 01/24/2020 21:07Briefly describe and explain what is working well in your program/service area. Our advertising and marketing through magazines, and high school outreach are having a positive impact on our enrollment. We are working to have our real estate classes badge by the CVC-OEI so that our college classes move up in the searches on the "Finish Faster" CVC-OEI exchange. We are presentlyusing the CVC-OEI Grant money to certify faculty to become course reviewers. These faculty will review classes and work with the instructors to bring the classes into alignment with theCVC-OEI Rubric. Once approved, the classes will be badged and appear nearer to the top (instead of alphabetical) of the searches for real estate in the "Finish Faster" website.

Briefly describe and explain what is not working well or needs attention in your program/service area.Although our outreach and marketing is having a posssitive impact on enrollment, we need to continue these efforts and create new avenues to encourage students to take real estateclasses.Teaching classes at the highschool campus is an option to explore.
