Carlos Carreiras soon began his political career in PSD and eventually reached several national level positions. Carlos Carreiras is columnist at “i”, daily Portuguese newspaper, and regular political commentator in national televisions. 9h45 António Saraiva President of CIP - Portuguese Business Confederation António Saraiva is the President of CIP – Business Confederation of Portugal, since January 2010 and Chairman of the board of Metalúrgica Luso-Italiana. He was born in 1953, has two children and four grandchildren. Director of Metalúrgica Luso-Italiana since 1992, he has bought the company from de Mello Group in 1996. Ha was President of the Association of Metallurgical Industries until 2009, before being elected President of CIP. 9h50 Carmel Jonhston Commander Mission Hi-Seas - NASA Carmel Johnston recently finished serving as the Commander of the Hawaii Space Exploration Analog and Simulation where she and five other people lived in complete isolation for an entire year. With a Masters of Science in Land Resources and Environmental Sciences from Montana State University, she was able to apply her passion for science and sustainable living to growing fresh vegetable for the crew while learning about the psychological aspects of isolation and confinement. Now that she is out of the dome, she is taking full advantage of being able to run, hike, swim, and play outside in her hometown in Montana. Mário Vaz CEO Vodafone Mário Vaz holds a degree in Law from Universidade Clássica de Lisboa. He started his career in the sales area, passing by companies such as Abreu Junior and Bull-Zenith Data Systems. He has been with Vodafone Portugal since Telecel inaugurated its service to the public in 1992. He took on different roles and positions before being appointed Director of the Business Unit in 1999, such as large account manager, sales support supervisor and director of Operational Marketing. He joined the Executive Board as head of the Private Business Unit in September 2009. Arlindo Oliveira, Professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Arlindo is presently the President of IST and member of its executive board. With a PhD from UC Berkeley in 1994, after a BSc and a MSc from IST, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. His major areas of interest are Algorithms and Complexity, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Digital Circuit Design. I has worked at CERN, Cadence Laboratories and INESC-ID and is a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and a senior member of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Ana Paiva is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). She is also the Coordinator of the GAIPS (Intelligent Agents and Synthetic Characters Group) group, at INESC-ID. Her main research targets the problems and techniques encountered when creating social agents and robots that can simulate human-like behaviours. She works on making them smart, transparent and eventually interact with humans in the same way humans interact with each other. She is well recognized worldwide in this research field, having published more than 200 articles in that topic. She has further advanced the area of artificial intelligence and social agents worldwide, having served for the Global Agenda Council in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics of the World Economic Forum. She is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Science Europe. Isabel Trancoso holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) where she is a Full Professor. She was President of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. She founded one of the research groups at INESC-ID Lisboa, in the area of speech processing, and is currently President of the Scientific Council of this institute. She was Chief Editor of IEEE Trans. on Speech and Audio Processing, and President of ISCA (International Speech Communication Association). She is a Fellow of ISCA and IEEE. Isabel currently chairs the Selection Committee of ISCA Fellows and IEEE Signal Processing Society. Peter Singer Philosopher Peter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher. He is the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at Princeton University, and a Laureate Professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the University of Melbourne. He specialises in applied ethics and approaches ethical issues from a secular, utilitarian perspective. He is known in particular for his book “Animal Liberation” (1975), in which he argues in favour of vegetarianism, and his essay “Famine, Affluence, and Morality,” in which he argues in favour of donating to help the global poor. For most of his career, he was a preference utilitarian, but he announced in “The Point of View of the Universe” (2014), co-authored with Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek, that he had become a hedonistic utilitarian. On two occasions, Singer served as chair of the philosophy department at Monash University, where he founded its Centre for Human Bioethics. In 1996 he stood unsuccessfully as a Greens candidate for the Australian Senate. In 2004 Singer was recognised as the Australian Humanist of the Year by the Council of Australian Humanist Societies, and in 2006 he was voted one of Australia’s ten most influential public intellectuals. Since 2007 he is General Director of Tema Central, a communications company that together with the Global Shapers of the World Economic Forum holds the Leadership Summit Portugal. He was an invited researcher in the World Bank Department of Commerce Investigation and Economic Integration, in Washington D.C., in 2012. Since 2005 he has held various senior public posts within the Cascais Municipality, and has also served as Director in representation of Cascais Council in the municipal and inter-municipal universe. He was also Director of the Paula Rego Foundation and Vice-President of the Lisbon Regional Tourism Organisation. Under the XX Constitutional Government of Portugal he held the office of Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Communication. Having graduated in Computers and Electrical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) in 2000, Miguel Pinto Luz went on to further develop his academic and research career and obtained a Master’s degree in Computer Networks at the same University, where he lectured on various undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. In 2012 he completed his MBA at AESE Business School / IESE (University of Navarra) and is currently reading for his PhD at the Rotterdam School of Management – Erasmus University. 12H10 Volker Hirsch Futurist A corporate lawyer by original profession, was Global Head of Games for Blackberry. He is a co-founder of Blue Beck, a 50-strong mobile development firm with 400+ person. Volker is also an active angel investor, a Venture Partner at Emerge Education, Europe’s leading EdTech accelerator, and the Chairman of Bibblio. He is a board member and/or advisor to another 7 companies in EdTech, AI, IoT, Travel, Advertising and Gaming and a co-founder of Tech North Advocates, a non-profit initiative seeking to aid the evolving tech ecosystems in the North of England. Mário VazCEO VodafoneMário Vaz holds a degree in Law from Universidade Clássica de Lisboa.He started his career in the sales area, passing by companies such as Abreu Junior and Bull-Zenith Data Systems.He has been with Vodafone Portugal since Telecel inaugurated its service to the public in 1992. He took ondi�erent roles and positions before being appointed Director of the Business Unit in 1999, such as largeaccount manager, sales support supervisor and director of Operational Marketing.He joined the Executive Board as head of the Private Business Unit in September 2009. With a PhD fromUC Berkeley in 1994, after a BSc and a MSc from IST, in 1986 and 1989, respectively. His major areas ofinterest are Algorithms and Complexity, Machine Learning, Bioinformatics and Digital Circuit Design.I has worked at CERN, Cadence Laboratories and INESC-ID and is a member of the Portuguese Academyof Engineering and a senior member of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organizationdedicated to advancing technology for the bene�t of humanity.

Ana Paiva is a Full Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering at Instituto SuperiorTécnico (IST). She is also the Coordinator of the GAIPS (Intelligent Agents and Synthetic Characters Group)group, at INESC-ID. Her main research targets the problems and techniques encountered when creatingsocial agents and robots that can simulate human-like behaviours. She works on making them smart,transparent and eventually interact with humans in the same way humans interact with each other.She is well recognized worldwide in this research �eld, having published more than 200 articles in thattopic. She has further advanced the area of arti�cial intelligence and social agents worldwide, havingserved for the Global Agenda Council in Arti�cial Intelligence and Robotics of the World EconomicForum. She is currently a member of the Scienti�c Advisory Board of Science Europe.

Isabel Trancoso holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST)where she is a Full Professor. She was President of the Department of Electrical and ComputerEngineering. She founded one of the research groups at INESC-ID Lisboa, in the area of speechprocessing, and is currently President of the Scienti�c Council of this institute. She was Chief Editorof IEEE Trans. on Speech and Audio Processing, and President of ISCA (International SpeechCommunication Association). She is a Fellow of ISCA and IEEE. Isabel currently chairs the SelectionCommittee of ISCA Fellows and IEEE Signal Processing Society.

Peter SingerPhilosopherPeter Singer is an Australian moral philosopher. He is the Ira W. DeCamp Professor of Bioethics at PrincetonUniversity, and a Laureate Professor at the Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics at the Universityof Melbourne. He specialises in applied ethics and approaches ethical issues from a secular, utilitarianperspective. He is known in particular for his book “Animal Liberation” (1975), in which he argues in favour of vegetarianism, and his essay “Famine, A�uence, and Morality,” in which he argues in favour of donating tohelp the global poor. For most of his career, he was a preference utilitarian, but he announced in “The Pointof View of the Universe” (2014), co-authored with Katarzyna de Lazari-Radek, that he had become a hedonisticutilitarian.
