This special achievement award, given by the Office of Student Life, is for a senior who has shown strong commitment through positive contributions to the Simmons community. The award recipient is
successful in their academic and co-curricular efforts, is sensitive to the value of diversity within the Simmons community, is self-
confident, skillful, creative, and compassionate.
Robert Rankin Award Sarah Neil, Vice President of Student Affairs
& Associate Provost/Dean of Students
This award recognizes a graduating senior. Dr. Robert Carter Rankin was a professor of History at Simmons College from 1929-1950. This
award was established in his memory to honor a senior who displays the qualities of friendliness, compassion for their fellow colleagues,
and devotion to the Simmons community.

This special achievement award, given by the President’s Office, is awarded to the senior who exemplifies the highest ideals of

Multicultural Community Award Raymond Ou, Associate Dean of Students
This award is designed to celebrate the contribution of a student
who, by involvement, attitude, and action, has enhanced the development of a multicultural community at Simmons.
Undergraduates in all four classes are eligible for consideration.
Carol Walker Pope Leadership Award Lisa Smith McQueenie, Associate Provost for Diversity and
Inclusion This award, established following the 2005 Black Alumnae/i Symposium, is a financial prize honoring Symposium Chair
Carol Waller Pope ’74. Nominees should demonstrate exceptional leadership through their involvement in diverse campus organizations. Leadership need not be exemplified
through an officer or chair position, but may also be demonstrated through unique and exceptional contributions to community life at Simmons. The award recipient is a student of
color who consistently exhibits cooperation, team spirit, and professionalism; shares a generous and unselfish attitude; displays resourcefulness to meet the needs of others; and
enables individuals and groups to flourish.
Ruth H. Danielson Memorial Award Jess Samuels, Director of Residence Life
The Danielson Award is named after Ruth H. Danielson, the Director of Students on the Residence Campus from 1941-1953.
This award is presented annually to a rising senior resident student who exemplifies the qualities demonstrated by Ruth
Danielson. These qualities include a deep interest in and devotion to Simmons students, a graciousness of personality and a great interest in the intellect and philosophy of human
kind, as well as an ongoing concern for the growth and future of Simmons College.

Tia Miller, Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Activities This award, created by the Student Government Association
Executive Board 2010-2011, recognizes a first year student who has emerged !as a student leader in their first year at Simmons College.
This student has become an engaged member of the Simmons community by exemplifying leadership qualities such as civility,
dedication and the spirit of the Simmons Shark! They have developed their leadership and fostered a strong presence on campus through their involvement in activities ranging from student organizations
and athletics to other leadership roles at Simmons. This awards recipient shows the beginnings of a Simmons student leader making
their way.
Quiet Leader in P.A.S .S.I.O .N. Zara Ali , Student Government Association President
This award, created by the Student Government Association Executive Board 2008-2009, recognizes a student on campus that impacts the community in or out of an active organization. This
person may or may not be involved in any activated organization in the Simmons Community as an executive board member; however, they have a leadership presence on campus. They are recognized by
their peers as having leadership skills and are working to make a difference at Simmons. The award recipient demonstrates one, if not more of the characteristics in the P.A.S.S.I.O.N. acronym, which are
pro-active, aware, sustainable, student-centered, inclusive, optimistic, NOW!
