8. Main educational aims of the programme
The aim of the psychology degree at Bangor is to produce a scientific understanding of the human mind, brain, behaviour, and experience, and of the complex interactions between these.
The psychology degree presents multiple perspectives in a way that fosters critical evaluation, including a mix of neurological, cognitive, developmental, language, learning, social, and personal perspectives.
The psychology degree at Bangor aims to foster an understanding of real life applications of theory to experience and behaviour in both normality and in illness.
The Bangor psychology degree develops an understanding of the role of empirical evidence in the creation and constraint of theory and also in how theory
2
guides the collection and interpretation of empirical data.
Through research-skills courses, and ultimately the independent research project, the degree includes the acquisition and mastery of a range of research skills and methods for investigating experience and behaviour.
The progression path through the degree incrementally builds up knowledge leading to an ability to appreciate and critically evaluate advanced theory, research findings, and applications.
