Programme:Alumni Rotary Interface

An interface of the members of Rotary Club of Nagpur and Executive members of
Hislop College Alumni Association was organized on 24th
August 2017 in the
Conference Room, Hislop College, Nagpur.
Rtn. Rina Sinha, President, Rtn. Sandip Dhodapkar, Chairperson and Rtn. Shabbir
Shakir with other prominent members of Rotary Club, Nagpur Chapter were present
to hand over a cheque of Rs.55,000/- to the college towards sponsorship of needy and
deserving students of the college for pursuing higher education under the HOPE
scheme. The cheque was handed over to the Principal Dr.Dipti Christian by Rtn. Rina
Sinha, President. Dr. (Ms.) Deepa Jamwal, Dr.Mousumi Bhowal, Mr. Dinesh
Chhabra, Mr. Vijay Naidu, Dr. Jayant Ranade, Dr. Abhilasha Raut and Dr. Razeka
Khan were prominently present.
Dr. Jayant Ranade Treasurer, HISCAAN welcomed all the Rotarians and thanked
them for this noble cause of contributing towards sponsorship programme. The Rotary
Club of Nagpur has been contributing to this scheme for the last three years.
Dr. Dipti Christian in her address thanked Rotary Club, for being a partner in the
noble cause of educating the needy students. She further added that the scheme has
been beneficial for betterment of educational and career prospects of the students of
this institution.
Mr. Sandeep Dhodapkar, expressed his happiness in being associated with the HOPE
project as it fulfills the basic need for literacy among students from all the strata of the
society.
Mrs. Rina Sinha, President, Rotary Club informed that Rotary Club would be
conducting three-day workshop at college for the selected students.

Programme:Examination: Stress Management

Hislop College Alumni Association conducted a self-help programme on October 10,
2017 for students selected under the HOPE Sponsorship Programme. This is a scheme
wherein less privileged students are sponsored by the members of the alumni. This
programme was conducted to emotionally strengthen the students and help them
tackle the pressure and stress faced during the examination time.
The resource person for this session was Dr. Bharti Gidwani a consultant medical
practitioner and a specialist in stress management. Through an interactive session
which included quizzes, games, Dr. Gidwani discussed ways and methods to cope
with exam stress and also highlighted on techniques of time management. She also
spoke on anxiety experienced by students and steps to overcome the same. She
advised the students to develop a personalized booklet to support them during the run-
up to exams, and during the exam days.
With the University exams around the corner this session was extremely relevant and
highly appreciated by the students. The programme was compared and conducted by
Dr. Abhilasha Raut.

Programme: Training Module

Life skills are essentially those abilities that help promote well-being and competence in
young people as they face the realities of life. Life skills empower them to take positive
action to protect themselves and positive social relationships.
In the session 2017-18 Rotary Club of Nagpur conducted the Life Skill workshop for Hislop
Students. The 6-hour module was conducted over two days on 6 and 7 March 2018.
The First Session ‘Express and Impress’ was conducted by Dr. Ruchi Choudhary on
Communication Skills. The session included Interpersonal/Communication skills–verbal and
non-verbal communication, active listening, and the ability to express feelings and give
feedback. The students were guided on methods of developing Empathy, which is the ability
to listen and understand others’ needs. This session was made effective through interaction
among participants. The concepts were explained through power point presentations, video
clips and short films. The session concluded with the following points as guidelines towards
effective communication
Communicate effectively in a multicultural environment
Actively listen and observe others
Increase self-awareness of how you communicate and how it is perceived by others
Measure outcomes of communications
Plan a communication strategy and messages
Facilitate meetings and influence others to reach consensus
The second session was conducted by Ms. Monica Bhagwagar on Personal Interviews and
Resumewriting.This session provided students with resources on writing tips and a step by
step guide to write one. They were further explained how an effective and well written
resume would highlight their most relevant qualifications for the job and subsequently help
the candidate to get selected for an interview. Few resume templates were also discussed to
highlight on different ways of preparing resume.
The second half of the session focused on Personal interviews wherein the students were
briefed about certain basic tips for a successful personal interview. These include:

Attitude
The module was an interactive session with the student’s involvement in all the various
aspects for better comprehension and understanding.
