IEEE IAS Technical Sessions Series (IASTSS) IEEE IAS Lahore Chapter took an initiative to start technical session in IEEE IAS Student Branch to engage

more students. Major objective behind this session series is to promote IEEE IAS Membership

Development and aware student with the new trends of Industry Academia Linkages. Following are

Event Description Seminar on IAS humanitarian was held on 11th May 2018 by Bahria university Lahore Section in networks

lab. 40 students were participated in that. The session was very interactive as students learnt a lot of

things and came to know about their responsibilities being an human being. Moreover they also came

to know about IEEE and its benefits.

Event Description Workshop on raspberry pi was held by IEEE Bahria University Lahore campus on 11th May 2018. The

guest speaker was Mr Ahmed Haseeb. The workshop was held in networks lab. 50 students were

Industrial Visit to Descon Cogeneration Power Plant by IEEE IAS UCET IUB IEEE IAS UCET IUB

Objective: The core aim of industrial visit is, aware the students about the industrial environment. As

theoretical knowledge is not enough for making a good professional career such kind of technical visits

help students to have extra information about what’s going on in an industry and how they run an

organization. With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit provides student a practical

perspective on the world of work.

Summary of the Event: IEEE UCET IUB IAS (Industrial application Society) is one of the most active Chapter of IEEE Lahore

section as well as Pakistan. It is promoting and working under the vision of IEEE IAS, providing the

industrial linkage to the students for their future career. On the 10th May 2018, IEEE IAS UCET IUB

organized an industrial visit for Engineering Students. The visit was to the 30 MW Descon Cogeneration

Power Plant, situated in RYK sugar mills Ltd, Janpur Distt. Rahim Yar Khan.

The visit started in the early hours of a working day. The group was taken to the training hall first and

foremost as soon as reaching the plant. Before the Plant visit, Descon management team gives

presentation on plant working, safety and served the students with refreshment. Within the industry

premises Engr. Main Muhammad Hassain (Plant Operation Manager) took charge and had taken the

group to the plant around noon and briefed up with the introduction about the plant as well as the

number of production lines. He also mentioned about every activity happening in the plant and also

answered the queries of the students regarding power generation.

Bagasse is often used as a primary fuel source for sugar mills. When burned in quantity, it produces

sufficient heat energy to supply all the needs of a typical sugar mill, with energy to spare. To this end, a

secondary use for this waste product is in cogeneration, the use of a fuel source to provide both heat

energy, in the mill, and electricity, which is typically sold on to the consumer electrical grid.

The control room was based on latest technology DCS (A distributed control system is a control system

for a process of plant). The visit concluded by the afternoon. The industrial visit to Descon Cogeneration

Power Plant was an enriching experience for students in getting live exposure of power generation

which can help them in their internships and further career enhancements.

All the Staff members and Students are highly thankful to Descon Power Solutions (PVT.) Limited for

providing such an opportunity for the visit and hospitality.

Seminar on Artificial Intelligence BY IEEE UCP Student Branch

16th May, 2018

About Seminar IEEE UCP Student Branch in collaboration with IEEE IAS Lahore Section, organized a seminar to know, learn and design intelligence machines. The seminar consisted of discussion covering Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Mining. Simple objective deals with guidance of students to enhance their design and modeling as well logical and programming skills required for these three areas. It was an Informative Session for students to get awareness about ongoing research and practical solution using intelligent machines.

It was an Informative Session and a huge opportunity for students as it was one of the main topics which are being discussed and researched worldwide. Basically it is intelligence demonstrated by machines, in contrast to the natural intelligence (NI) displayed by humans and other animals.

Instructors made students able enough to create the fascinating projects in future utilizing skills of "Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Cognitive Robotics ". Not only students of University of Central Punjab participated but students from different universities also attended this event. And No Doubt, Everything was provided by IEEE, this event won’t be possible without the cooperation provided by IEEE Lahore Section and IEEE IAS Lahore.
