We visit an agency to conduct interview about their projects. The name of the agency that we

visit is the Bukas Palad. It is a non-government agency. Bukas Palad was open for those who

are in need and they truly give their lives in loving service to their neighbor. Bukas Palad offers a

comprehensive development program to the community through holistic and integrated services

in the fields of health care, housing, earning a livelihood, small loans, community building, and

education.

When we start our interview, one of the Community Worker explains and discusses the

programs and projects of their agency. The project that caught my attention is about the

Housing Project.

1. Study the Project Development Cycle was applied:

Assessment Phase:a. How the processes undertaken i.e. internal and environmental scanning,

identification of the stakeholders and the prioritization of the needs?

This agency probably sees how the people in the community were struggling poverty.One of the problems of the poor in the city is shelter. They dont have their own houseand also they dont have a residential lot where they can build their house. We can

classify those people in the group of informal settlers because there were live in the

surrounding community and it was not legal. Having their own shelter was important in

every family, because it is a private place that a family must have and a beginning to have

a normal life. Also it will keep you safe and feel more comfortable especially for your

family.

b. What were the techniques and tools used in doing this process? Bukas Palad was conducting a home visitation; it is a house to house visit to the family in

the community. Where the community workers visits, conduct interview, surveys,

checking out the situation of the family and other. In this simple way, they can figure the

primary problem of every family in the community. Thats why the agency comes up

with different projects and programs to solve those primary problems in the community.

One of this is the Housing Project that has a huge part to those who does not have their

own houses.

How the project was identified and developed? What were the processesundertaken?

Bukas Palad developed the housing project because they know that in the community thatthey helping or serving, the primary problem is not having a shelter. Most of them do not

have their own home to stay in. As we imagine those people does not have any shelter,

how can they live a normal life. Bukas Palad constructed a 50 unit Housing Project that

the community workers and other families were lived in. Those families staying in the

Housing Project was paying an amount that was equivalent to a monthly rental and after

25 years, they will own their respective homes. Bukas Palad assisting families to acquire

suitable housing.

Many fathers in the housing project work late at night. When they were living in the

surrounding community, they would worry about the safety of their families because the

place where they lived was dangerous due to drug addiction and alcoholism. Now that

they are in the housing project, they can be peaceful and happy knowing that while they

are away, the housing community will take care of their families.

How the resources needed for the project was mobilized? What were the techniquesand tools used?

Bukas Palad has a motto, Freely we receive, and freely we give. Bukas Paladbelievesin Gods grace and power. All of their funds were come from Gods blessings. It is a

donation from different donors that have a good heart and want to share the blessings of

God to others. This funds can provide things and to support the projects of the agency for

the people in the community. According to the community worker, further expansion of

the housing project is dependent on the availability of funds. Bukas Palad also believes

that when you truly give help to others the more you receive blessings because having

faith in God changes everything.

How the project was implemented or being implemented? What tools or techniquesbeing utilized?

By the use of interviewing and surveying, Bukas Palad was able to come up to thisproject. They obtain information that helps them to develop a good project and also to

know if the project was effective or not. The information from every family will help the

agency to determine their problems and also when it comes in solving it. People in the

community support this project and no one against it and every one of them helping for

the development and expanding of the project.

How the project will be evaluated and/or terminated (in case the project is on-going)?

The answer will be in the feedback of the stakeholders, because they were thebenefactors of the project. In this case, Bukas Palad conduct or use surveys so that they

can determine if the project was effective or not.

In Housing Project, the stakeholders entire are happy and they got a normal life. Thisproject is still continued because they are many families that are benefited.

The Housing Project that was made and organize by Bukas Palad, lessen the poorpeople in the community that was live in the surrounding community and transfer to a

good and a safe place.
