Project Proposal Final
For my Project I’ve decided to do my civic issue on bringing awareness of the
Panhandlers that are locally in our area, from the UCF area to close to Downtown
Orlando area. Panhandlers aren’t just a problem in the Orlando area but all over the
country. Back when I lived at home I always noticed this problem and was always
curious of some of their stories so I wanted to take this into consideration and really
research the Panhandlers in our area and not just find out their stories but also ask people
in the community at UCF and then other residents if they have ever supported a
panhandler by giving it money or food and why they did, then just get their overall
opinion on panhandlers. These panhandlers that are so called “homeless” or in need of a
job and/or food can easily be initiative in finding a job at a place in the area as any
position just to get them off the streets.
It just frustrates me these panhandlers take advantage of people and not just the people
but the government, and they expect everything to be handed to them with no cost and
everyone else has to pay for them, through taxes.
My plan is to interview different panhandlers in the area of Orlando and find out their
story but also interview the community and get their feedback on how they feel about
panhandlers and do they support them or not. For the Rhetoric part of this project I’d like
to relate to Rhetorical Audience, which "consists of only of those persons who are
capable of being influenced by discourse and of being mediators of change," so for my
project since I'm talking to the community and asking for their feedback on panhandlers
and if they support them, then I'm in a way influencing them that not all panhandlers are
honest to being homeless and having no money or job, so I'd like to see a change be done
in the community between the ones that support the panhandlers and are continuing to
give them food and money when maybe they possibly don't need it, but instead the
community should give these panhandlers information for a shelter, business cards or
applications of a place you know that's hiring; anything that could help them more in a
more positive way, to get them off the street and not stealing the community's money.
