Project Purpose

• Bridge Road Park has served theCommunity of Monona for severaldecades as a mini park and had growntired and outdated. The location of thepark is on a high trafficked road andoffered excellent visibility and access forcommunity residents. A vision for theredevelopment was created tointroduce vibrant color, multi-generational amenities, and improvedsite access.

Bridge Road Park offers anew drinking fountain/bottlefiller, and bike repair stationto aid those traveling alongthe heavily used LakeMonona Bike Loop.

The adirondackchairs utilizerecycled milk jugsin lieu of wood forlongevity and lowmaintenance.

Park maintenance was considered and will require minimalupkeep due to equipment and material selection.

Project Purpose• The Amani neighborhood in Milwaukee has been working on the

revitalization of the historically troubled Calvin Moody Pool siteinto a family friendly community destination that all could beproud of. This 4 acre lot now provides much needed vibrancewith a new community center, large playfield, basketball courts,splashpad, paths, and community garden.

• Realizing the potential of the space and the needs of the neighborhood residents, thedecision was made to wipe the slate clean and revamp the space with amenities for allage groups.

The existing parcel contained the boarded up and closed red brickbuilding that housed the Calvin Moody Pool. This site had beenhistorically troubled and attracted a pattern of crime.

• The design of the new park pays tribute to a prominent local figure –Mr. Calvin C. Moody, a police officer for 25 years, one ofMilwaukee’s first black detectives, NAACP board member, anddirector of the Northside YMCA.
