In April of 2014, Ethos, assisted Biohabitats, Inc. in completion of Phase I of a multi-‐year adaptive management and restoration planning process for the 200 acre Omega Institute campus in the scenic Hudson River Valley. The assessment phase included baseline inventorying and analysis of regional landscape ecology; campus forest, wetland, and stream condition; energy operations and carbon emissions; and living and developed infrastructure condition and needs assessment. Assessment findings and recommendations for the Phase II master plan development were presented within a comprehensive adaptive management framework. Ethos led the establishment of the operational energy and greenhouse gas emissions baseline for the campus and provided contributions to the living and built infrastructure assessment elements of Phase I.
The Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OSCL) designed by BNIM, John Todd Ecological Design, and Biohabitats is the first building worldwide to achieve both Living Building Challenge & LEED Platinum certification. As an ecologically-‐engineered wastewater facility for the campus, the OCSL was key component of both the living and built infrastructure benchmarked and assessed during Phase I.
