SITE • Situated 25km from Bangalore City. • The total area of the site is 37,100 Sq.m. • As per the bye – laws applicable, a sufficient portion of the plot was reserved for future road widening since it was located adjacent to a national highway. REQUIREMENT AND PROGRAM The client had already developed a prefabricated warehouse as shown in the key plan (Block 4). • Our brief was to develop a front office building (Block 1) and a showcase warehouse (Block 2) in front of this existing warehouse as a new facade between the highway and the warehouse, which has a bleak elevation. •The front office building is to house facilities such as private offices for the senior managers, orientation and seminar rooms, meeting rooms and an exhibition space. • The show case warehouse is to house facilities for presentation of garments to clients. DESIGN RESOLUTION • The structure rises in response to the height of the warehouse in the rear thus minimizing the view of the mundane rear warehouse from the highway. • Since floor areas are large and uninterrupted, we used double height spaces and greater floor to ceiling heights proportional to the horizontal spaces. • The buildings are a combination of simple geometric forms interlocking to form a complex interplay of spatial volumes. CONSTRUCTION TECHNOLOGY • RCC construction with exposed form finished concrete and glass is used for the front office. • Prefabricated steel portal frames were used for the showcase garment factory with aluminum sheet siding. • Mild Steel box section pergolas.
