Achieve activities related to the delivering of capacity-building and transfer of technology in accordance with article 12 of the Stockholm Convention

- Practical Guideline on Environmentally Sound Management of Obsolete Pesticides in the Latin America and Caribbean countries

-Regional Workshop on Obsolete Pesticides (Venezuela)

-Regional Capacity building regarding stockpiles – life cycle approach.

Project SBC – BCCC – IDRC (Canada)

“Training of municipals technicians in sound environmental management of

hazardous wastes” 2005Main Purpose:•Train municipal technicians in the sound management of hazardous wastes in view of the local needs

Cost: US$ 97,600

Outputs: - Guide for the Integral Management of Hazardous Wastes - Internet Modality Course on Management of Hazardous Wastes (30 participants of 17 countries) - Two Classroom Course (Ecuador and Cuba,82 participants in total). - Database of 589 municipalities from 19 Latin-American countries.

Project BCCC – SBC-CNTL Brazil- Brazilian Ministry of the Environment

“Pilot programme for the minimization of impacts generated by hazardous wastes” 2005-2006

Cost: US$ 135,800

Purpose:

Elaborate a methodology that allow to prepare guides for the sound management of various streams of hazardous wastes with the Environmental Authority interest and the involvement of the productive sector.

Outputs

–Three guidelines with technical information on each prioritised hazardous waste current

–A guide with the methodology to study a hazardous waste stream in a productive sector

Results: - Quality criteria to analyse POPs; - Needs to analyse POPs; - Sustainability criteria to analyse POPs; - Questionnaire on capacity to analyse POPs.
