Arab Paediatric Medical Congress is designed to provide healthcare professionals involved in the care of paediatrics and neonates with up-to-date and evidence-based clinical data to highlight key solutions to the latest challenges faced by Arab paediatricians and neonatologists. This event will feature interactive case-studies, platform presentations, educational workshops, networking sessions, meet the professor session and more, to provide a comprehensive review of current issues and recent advances in selected paediatric and neonatology areas, including: Nutrition, Vaccines, Infectious diseases, Gastroenterology, Neurology and more. The event will offer Continuing Medical Education (CME) Credit Hours to its delegates as well as a truly unique opportunity to network, meet and build relationships with their peers in paediatrics and neonatology.

To foster excellence in Paediatric research, the Arab Paediatric Medical Congress wishes to recognise individuals that have exhibited outstanding research in the field of paediatrics by presenting The Arab Paediatric Medical Research Award.

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

ELIGIBILITY

Entrants should be registered at Arab Paediatric Medical Congress.

Research paper in any area in paediatrics published during the two previous calendar year can be submitted.

SUBMISSION 1. Abstract submission deadline: 01 April 2014. 2. In order to ensure efficient processing of your application, it is important that the necessary requirements are submitted all

together as follows: a. Typewritten abstract in English, not exceed 350 words. b. Abridge CV (one-page) indicating the author’s academic & scientific degrees C. The actual research paper of a summary of the paper. 3. A panel of judges will score submissions independently. The first three (3) highest scoring abstracts will receive recognition at

the Arab Paediatric Medical Congress. These finalists will be notified on the First week of May 2014. The best research paper must pledge to present on the specified given time otherwise his /her nomination will be cancelled and replaced by the next ranking candidate.

4. The first winner will be required to present a fifteen (15) minutes summary of their projects. Five (5) minutes will be allowed

for discussion. 5. All correspondence should be submitted to [email protected].

Workshop A:Nutrition strategies for feeding high risk neonates Workshop Leader:Dr. Khaled El-Atawi, Specialist Senior Registrar Neonatology, Latifa Hospital Overview: Poor nutritional management of preterm babies can result in numerous adverse outcomes including poor growth, poor bone mineralisation and fracture, anaemia, and risk of poor neurodevelopmental outcome. Lack of nutrition and feeding protocols can delay feeding and nutrition milestones which could delay discharge and reduce cost effectiveness.

Workshop objectives:

To give a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of nutritional care of preterm babies.

Define basic nutritional requirements for neonatal growth.

Describe specific nutritional problems faced by low birth weight and premature infants, and identify approaches to address-ing nutritional concerns for premature infants after hospital discharge.

Identify the role of human milk in the NICU and subsequently utilize human milk feeding in practice to improve outcomes of high risk neonates

Prescribe nutritional supplements for mothers and infants to promote optimal nutrition in the NICU

Develop strategies to improve growth rates of neonates after discharge from the NICU

Workshop B: Management of Seizure from START to STATUS Workshop Leader:Dr. Khalid Omer Ibrahim, Head of Paediatric Neurology Division, Dept., of Paediatrics, Hamad General Hospital Overview: This workshop has been deigned to give general paediatricians , paediatrics emergency staff, Paramedics., Nursing staff including school nurses a simple straightforward approach to identify and manage seizures in a practical and interactive workshop setting.

Workshop objectives:

Identify the practical approach of managing seizure at the onset being in community or in the hospital setting

Address the concept of “a Prolonged Seizure” with special reference to the generalised tonic or tonic-clonic seizures

Review of Rescue Medications

Management of Status Epilepticus and the updated protocol

Brief review of other aspects of management including choice of antiepileptic drugs and advice regarding life style

Workshop C:Managing different clinical scenarios in paediatric heart disease Workshop Leader: Dr. Mohamed Hamdan, Consultant Pediatric Cardiologist, Co-Director, KidsHeart & Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, UAE University College of Medicine Overview: Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common congenital anomaly. Presentation varies according to the type and patient age. Correct diagnosis however, requires careful diagnostic work-up, which the pediatricians do not have, in many occasions. However, simple examination and testing tools readily available in many hos-pitals can be of great help in the initial assessment and diagnosis

Workshop Objectives:

To present several clinical cases in different types of congenital and acquired heart disease

To discuss clinical presentation, pertinent bed-side investigations and tests the pediatricians can perform

To understand in interactive manner, the differential diagnosis, management tips, and overall prognosis, aided by movie presentations, pictures, and audio
