Maintaining a healthy digestive system can translate into a healthier you. Some conditions, diseases and medications can affect your gastrointesti-nal (GI) tract, increasing your risk of developing GI dysfunction, resulting in dehydration and poor nutrient absorption. By promoting proper digestive health, you can prevent some complications that are common as you age. A “Healthy Gut” should be able to effectively absorb and digest foods you eat, help prevent GI illness, maintain positive intestinal flora, boost your immune system and provide a state of well-being.

Entrinsic Health Solutions’ mission is to address the changing critical digestive, nutritional, and hydration needs that can result from aging. Our focus is your digestive health. We are committed to helping you maintain your digestive health through superior hydration, nutrient/electrolyte absorption and GI strengthening.

What causes dehydration and poor digestive health? There are many different causes for dehydration as we age. Sudden shifts in the body’s water balance can frequently result in dehydration, and the physical changes associated with aging can expose you to a higher risk of dehydration.1 Dehydration may be caused by inadequate fluid intake, but can happen for many other reasons including diarrhea, excessive sweating, side effects of medication (diuretics, antibiotics and laxatives) and disease.

As we age, our body’s capacity to absorb proper nutrients and fluids is diminished due to damage to the absorptive structures in the GI tract (villi), caused by external stressors (e.g. medication, disease, dehydration). External stressors can also cause a breakdown in GI barrier function. Proper GI barrier function prevents bacteria and toxins from entering into your system causing GI dysfunction.2

Manifestations of GI dysfunction such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, weight loss and excess gas many times are dismissed as being “normal” rather than understood as damage to your digestive health.

In certain diseases such as cancer, treatments can also have an effect on digestive health. These treatments act aggressively on the growing cancer cells, but they also target and affect healthy non-cancerous cells.

Among these healthy cells are those that are rapidly regenerating and are found in the GI tract, the mouth, and stomach increasing the risk of GI dysfunction. Cancer treatments can also cause a breakdown in GI barrier function that prevents bacteria and toxins from entering your system. Because of this breakdown, it is possible to experience diarrhea, nausea/ vomiting, dehydration, and gastritis.

Dehydration can occur rapidly, altering the body’s ability to regulate its fluid balance.

Effects of dehydration on your bodyIf dehydration is not identified and treated, the consequences to your health can be significant or even life threatening. All symptoms should be reported to your healthcare provider.

Symptoms may include but are not limited to:

Mild Dehydration Severe Dehydration

Developed by gastroenterologists, enterade®DH is a natural, glucose free, medical food beverage that is scientifically proven to improve the GI tract’s ability to absorb fluids and nutrients. enterade’s patented amino acid electrolyte formula provides the nutrients needed to rebuild and protect the GI tract and deliver total body hydration.

What is enterade®DH?

Page 5: Promoting digestive health through superior hydration ...€¦ · Maintaining a healthy digestive system can translate into a healthier you. Some conditions, diseases and medications

Amino acids are the basis of all life processes and the backbone of body proteins. They help build and support the function of the cells (including the transport, absorption, and storage of fluids, electrolytes, and nutrients) you need to survive, and are obtained from the foods you eat and drink. As we age (or due to disease, illness and medication), the GI tract’s ability to absorb essential nutrients and electrolytes decreases, resulting in poor digestive health.

The select amino acids in the enterade®DH formula help to rebuild the villi (inside lining of the intestine), provide superior nutrient and electrolyte absorption, and protect GI barrier function supporting a healthy immune system.

enterade®DH is the path to feeling better.

What are amino acids and why are they important?

Patients who have used enterade®DH said:

“I have more energy and I feel much better from enterade®DH.”

These select amino acids were chosen specifically for the enterade®DH formula to help you improve your digestive health

The challenge of glucose in a compromised GI tractGlucose in a healthy GI tract is used to transport nutrients, electrolytes and fluids into the body. In a damaged GI tract, such as a result of external stressors (e.g. disease, medication, or dehydration), the villi become blunted, leaving them unable to absorb glucose-bound nutrients and electrolytes.

Clinical testing conducted at United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM)3, showed that enterade’s select amino acids, instead of glucose, provides superior nutrient and electrolyte absorption as well as greater retention when compared to glucose based beverages.

Additionally, glucose has been shown to stimulate chloride secretion (fluid loss/ diarrhea), and weaken barrier function (cause for bacteria and toxins to enter the body) causing leaky gut. Research funded by NSBRI, a NASA funded consortium of institutions4, showed that enterade’s amino acid-based formulation did not increase active chloride secretion, improved barrier function and helped rebuild the GI absorptive structures. enterade®DH an amino acid based solution, provides superior fluid and electrolyte absorption compared to glucose based solutions, for superior rehydration and better patient outcomes.

Drinking enterade®DH can help improve hydration and overall digestive health.

This image shows the select amino acids in enterade provide better nutrient transportation and absorption than glucose. They help to facilitate hydration in three areas; the vascular

space (blood vessels), interstitial area (the space in between the cells), and the intracellular area (inside the cells) to achieve total body hydration

How can enterade®DH help?External stressors (disease, dehydration and some medications) may affect the villi (absorptive structures of the intestine) and GI barrier function (provides protection from external toxins and bacteria from entering the body).

Disruption in the function of the villi can result in improper nutrient absorption and dehydration. Diminished GI barrier function can result in the passage of external toxins/bacteria into your body causing inflammation (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, malnutrition, and other related problems).

The select amino acids in enterade®DH help facilitate superior nutrient and electrolyte absorption, help rebuild the GI absorptive structures, and help protect the GI tract to support healthy immune function.

Studies done by the United States Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine (USARIEM)3, have shown that the select amino acids in enterade®DH work to enhance electrolyte and fluid replacement (rehydration) longer, leading to total body hydration.

Clinical research shows that enterade®DH provides 40% greater electrolyte recovery compared to traditional glucose based drinks.

enterade®DH can help improve digestive health and promote superior hydration.

enterade®DH and Amino Acids enterade®DH supports long term digestive health in 3 ways: • Rebuilds: enterade®DH helps rebuild the GI absorptive structures. • Hydrates: enterade®DH uses select amino acids to transport electrolytes and fluids through the blood into the cells facilitating total body hydration. • Protects: enterade®DH helps protect the GI tract to support healthy immune function by tightening the GI barrier.
