Prompton State Park is easily reached from US 6 at the junction of PA 170. Directions BOATING: up to 10 hp motors The 290-acre Prompton Lake has one boat launch on the west shore, accessed from PA 170. Motorboats must display a current boat registration. Non-powered boats launched in the park must display one of the following: boat registration; launch permit or mooring permit from Pennsylvania State Parks, available at most state park offices; launch permit from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. FISHING: The 290-acre Prompton Lake is a warmwater fishery. Common fish are crappie, yellow perch, and largemouth and smallmouth bass. PICNICKING: A picnic pavilion is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers property above the dam. HUNTING AND FIREARMS: Most of the park is open to hunting, trapping, and the training of dogs during established seasons. Common game species are deer and turkey. Use extreme caution with firearms at all times. The hiking trails are a mix of rocky paths and smooth forest floor. The northernmost 1.2-mile of East Shore Trail is old, smooth blacktop that used to be PA 170 before Prompton Dam was built, flooding most of the old road. Most trails are rated more difficult to difficult hiking.

Blueberry Trail: 1.5 miles, blue blazesA loop off Pine Creek Trail at the northeast end of the park.Bone Ridge Trail: 2 miles, yellow blazesStarts and ends on Hemlock Trail near the east side of the dam.Cliff Trail: 1.3 miles, red blazesStarts at Sidewinder Trail and comes back to Pine Creek Trail.Eagle Pass Trail: 1 mile, green blazesConnects Cross Trail with East Shore and Sugar Shack trails.East Shore Trail: 4.5 miles, red blazesExtends from Beech Grove Road on the north end to the top of the dam at the south end.Hemlock Trail: 2 miles, yellow blazesStarts at the east end of the dam and meets up with High Ledge TrailHigh Ledge Trail: 2 miles, white blazesStarts at East Shore Trail and meets Sugar Shack Trail.Orchard Trail: 3.5 miles, white blazesOn the west side of the lake, this trail parallels West Shore Trail.Pine Creek Trail: 1.7 miles, orange blazesIn the northeast end of the park, this trail begins and ends at Cliff Trail.Sidewinder Trail: 1 mile, red blazesFrom East Shore Trail to the beginning of Sidewinder Trail.Sugar Shack Trail: 2 miles, white blazesBegins on East Shore Trail and meets Eagle Pass Trail on the east side of the lake.West Shore Trail: 3.5 miles, red blazesOn the west side of the lake, this trail parallels Orchard Trail.
