Coming early to the Mosque for Friday prayer

Salman Al-Faresi (May Allah be pleased with him) related that the Prophet (PBUH) said

(A man when he cleans himself on the Day of Friday, and puts on a nice smell; then He goes to

the Mosque , and does not separate between two people; then he prays what is ordained for

him; then he listens to the mam when he spea!s with attention; till his sins are forgi"en from

one Friday to the ne#t Friday)

!his Hadeeth outlines proper manners for Salat Al-"umua#

Abi 3aeed related that the 1rophet Muhammad (1&4H) also said5

(t is incumbent on e"ery Muslim to ta!e a shower on the day of Friday; and to wear his best

clothes; and to put on some nice smell if he has it)

!he rationale underlying the Prophet#s orders

/n the day of Friday there will be many Muslims coming to the Mosque and praying7 $t is

important not to offend anyone during this gathering and on this blessed day of Friday7 f

we come to the mosque and we smell bad our odor will offend those around us and close to us7

1rophet Muhammad (1&4H) told us not to come to Friday prayer if we ate something that

caused us to ha"e a bad odor7



8e can offend others by passing o"er them, or by sitting between two people when there is no

room, or by ta!ing or sitting in the place of a Muslim who came to the Mosque earlier7 1rophet

Muhammad (1&4H) saw a man passing o"er Muslims who were sitting on the day of Friday,

while he was gi"ing the 2hutba7 !he Prophet (PBUH) said5 (3it down, for you ha"e annoyed

and offended others, and you came late) $arrated by Abou Dawood, $esa6ee % Ahmad

$t is important to pay attention to the $mam and not %e distra&ted during the

Friday prayer

2hutba7 Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said

(f you say to your brother on the day of Friday, when the mam is gi"ing his sermon5

:isten attenti"ely< then you ha"e committed a sin of saying things that are inappropriate)

he 1rophet (1&4H) also said5

(8hoe"er tal!s when the mam is gi"ing his sermon, he is li!e a don!ey carrying manuscripts;

and whoe"er tells him5 :isten< he will not gain reward from attending this Friday prayer)

(hree types of people attend the Friday prayer5 A person attends because he li!es to tal!5 this is

what he gets out of his Friday prayer7 And a person attends because he wants to say Dua6a5 it is

up to Allah whether to grant him his wish or not; and a person attends quietly and listens

attenti"ely, and did not offend any Muslim5 then it is forgi"eness for his sins till the ne#t Friday

and three more days, because Allah says5 :A good deed is rewarded ten times< $arrated by

!he reason it is important not to %e distra&ted is the follo'ing

'he 2hutba is part of the Friday prayer7 8e do not tal! when we are praying, and we should

not be tal!ing when the mam is gi"ing his 2hutba7

*8e may learn something if we listen

+he mam may be reciting a =ur6an or a Hadeeth of the 1rophet (1&4H) and we should

listen and learn and respect the =ur6an and 3unnah7

-8e can disturb others sitting close to us if we tal! and distract them .8e

are denied the reward of attending the Friday prayer if we tal!

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) e#plained that we are rewarded more if we come earlier to the

Mosque on the day of Friday7

here is a reason for the recommendation to come early for Friday prayer7 t ensures that we

understand our obligation to come to Friday and are not late; and that we can pray optional

prayer before the mam stands up to gi"e his sermon7 t ensures that people ha"e time to find

a place to sit and attend the prayer and a"oid being o"ercrowded or passing o"er others sitting

and waiting for the Friday prayer7

/ur reward is also increased if we come early to Friday prayer7

Aws &in Aws related that the Messenger of Allah (1&4H) said5

(he best day of your days is the day of Friday5 in it Adam was created, and died; and the

trumpet will on Friday and the Day of udgment is in the day of Friday; therefore increase

your prayers for me on Friday, because your prayers are shown to me)7 He was as!ed5 /

Messenger of Allah, how can you see our prayers after you decay? He said5 (Allah has made

forbidden for the earth to eat the bodies of the prophets)7 $arrated by Ahmad, Abou Dawood,

he Hadeeth implies that the 1rophet (1&4H) will intercede on behalf those who prayed for

him7 8e !now that Allah will grant him the greater intercession and that he will intercede on

behalf his 4mma (nation)7

1rophet Muhammad (1&4H) told us that there is one hour or part of an hour during the day of

Friday when our Dua6a is answered, and told us that it is after the Asr (afternoon) prayer

($arrated by bn Ma99a, Ahmad, $esa6ee, Abou Dawood % Ha!im)7 he 1rophet (1&4H)

e#plained that if we prayed, then sat down and waited for the ne#t prayer, then we are in a state

of prayer7

Abi 3aeed Al2hudry related that the 1rophet (1&4H) said5

(8hoe"er recites 3urat Al2ahf on the day of Friday he will get a light that illuminates for him

between the two Fridays)

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said5 (8hen a man ta!es a shower on the day of Friday; puts on

a nice smell and wears his best clothes; and goes to the mosque early; and does not separate

between two people; and prays what is ordained for him; and listens attenti"ely to the mam

gi"ing the sermon, his sins are forgi"en from one Friday to the ne#t) $arrated by Ahmad %
